REVIEWS OF THE
JOHN PRINE IN '99 PARADISE CONCERT TOUR

CANADIAN SHOW

  • CONVOCATION HALL, TORONTO, 9/18

Greetings from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada (1 hour west of Toronto) What a show What a show What a show. This is the fourth time we had the pleasure of seeing John in Concert and it was the best. My wife and I are still buzzing from that night. John said that he had not been up to Canada for a while so he would put on a good long show. 2 1/2 hours of a love in with John and his Ontario Fans. Standing O to start the show and the singing (John and the audience) and communication were great. Convocation Hall only seats 1700 and there's not a bad seat in the house. Can't wait until he comes back. Thanks for the advance notice of the show. We managed to get seats 7 rows from the front. The concert was sold out with fans begging for seats outside to no avail.

Saturday night in Toronto was the first time I had the privilege, honor, joy, thrill, rush, etc. of seeing John live and in person!!! Needless to say, it was GREAT!!!! I drove over 250 miles to get there, the transmission in my truck died on the way home, but it was worth it. He started out with one of my favorite songs and ended with my favorite (course all the ones in between were favorites too). I loved the show format. He and the band began together then did quite a few numbers alone, just him and his guitar. Then he ended with the band...for just three guys, they put out a big, beautiful noise. John really seemed to be getting into in the last few numbers! Now I can't wait to see him again...it's like getting a tattoo...once it's in your blood, you gotta have more!!!

Great to see John up here again. Sold out show, John seemed truly happy to be out again. I've seen him a number of times and I noticed that he's lowered the key in a lot of songs to accommodate his voice. Jason Wilbur played incredible!!! It was interesting to see the band format with no drummer. A great idea. The three of them still rocked hard at times. Nice to see him pull "Far From Me" out of his trick bag. Alot of people say that his illness hasn't hurt his voice, but I truly believe it has. But I love him for his song writing, not his precision vocals. He is still one of the world's foremost songwriters, he always will be. Thanks for remembering Toronto John.

Here's the set list for last night's show in Toronto.  John was terrific and the crowd was responsive (it a little loud and off time).  I've seen John several times, he's always wonderful.
Last night he really seemed to be appreciative of the audience. It was a sold out crowd. The stripped down sound was great. Quite versatile.  Real rockers and sensitive ballads. Another great show.
