REVIEWS OF THE
JOHN PRINE CONCERT TOUR 1999
OHIO SHOWS
KENT
STATE FOLK FESTIVAL, KENT, OH 9/25/99
- FROM: the Shedlocks
Just seen John in Ohio at the Kent state folk fest. John was nothing less than
superb. Love the rockin version of Lake Marie. We got right up at the stage since it was
general admission. My 8 year old son Kyle went and John shook his hand during the show.
John seemed happy that Kyle was singing with him to all of the songs as you could
tell by John's smile and looks his way. SPECIAL TANKS to the women who was standing beside
us who asked a stage hand for a pick John had dropped then gave it to Kyle. You and John
made a boy who has been growing up on John's music very happy. Long may you be our
inspiration, The Shedlocks

I just saw John at the Kent State Folk Festival and was surprised at how good he looked
and how well he sang. He seemed to be having a great time. He did a ton of old songs and
one off his new duet album. My first time seeing him live and I just wanted to let you
know that he is in top form.

If you were not there, YOU MISSED OUT! It was my first time for a eyeball to eyeball with
THE MAN. HE opened with Fish and Whistle and closed with Paradise. Everything in between
was great, I hollered for a Happy Enchilada, he said that they did that the night before!
I got within 5 feet of him on the stage, so close--I think they could hear me singing on
sound system. Cool Beans.. I was disappointed that I did not get my CD signed, he left
pretty quick... there is always next time. I got a few pictures and will upload when they
become available.
SOUTHERN THEATRE, COLUMBUS, OH MAY 6 & 7, 1999
- FROM: James
Well, John's done it again!! Another great show at the Southern Theatre
in Columbus, OH. Prine opened up with 'Spanish Pipedream' and kept the crowd in it with
favorites such as 'Six O'clock News', 'Fish and Whistle', 'Souvenirs' and 'Angel from
Montgomery'. JP went into an acoustic set where the stories and songs just flowed. He had
the crowd in stitches with his two "high school humor" songs, 'Lets Talk Dirty in
Hawaiian' and 'Dear Abby'. John joked about his somewhat rugged voice a few times; in
'Dear Abby' he changed one verse to say, "Siiiigned....Frog In the Throat."
Overall, JP did a great job and the audience really responded to him well. Personally my
favorite points in the show were John's acoustic ballad, "One Red Rose" and the
rocked out version of "Lake Marie" with Jason Wilbur blowing the audience a
away. Homer

The concert last night was totally awesome. John sounded good as ever. The
theatre was full of fans enjoying every tune. Country fans can keep their Garth
Brooks, and rock-n-roll fans can keep Guns-n-Roses, and grunge fans can keep Nirvana, as
long as John keeps singing his tunes. One of the most enjoyable things about
the show was that John seemed to really be having a good time! My 9-yr old and I sang
along together to Paradise creating one more family memory. I wish I could
make it to Milwaukee but I'll be beaching it in North Carolina. I'm sure it will be a
great time up north!
