REVIEWS OF THE

JOHN PRINE IN '99 CONCERT TOUR
OREGON SHOWS

  • OAKS PARK,  PORTLAND JUNE 18, 1999

FROM: Meanhead Lee
I saw my first Prine show last night; was expecting him to be not in greatest form, given his recent illness, but boy was i wrong. He & his band were absolutely amazing! If you see only one live show this year, make sure it's a John Prine concert.

Saw JP - Portland, OR 6/18/99. Had not seen him for 20 some years. My god what a show. Tears all around and smiles to you John.

John Prine has done it again! What a great experience it was to introduce my two 13 year old daughters along with my 10 and 11 year old sons to the atmosphere of live entertainment. We arrived early so that I could lay our blankets directly in front of the stage. It was such a good feeling to sit there behind the family unit, knowing that this evening would be remembered for the rest of there lives. He planted an impression on this family that afternoon and put words together that make this father very proud for showing his children that life isn't simple but certainly not hard, don't take things too serious, and treat people warm. The boys and I were right there in front for the encore, and actually touched the mans boot when he came out to the front, it was an awsome experience for the three of us....we were giving eachother high fives! Then he reached out and shook our hands and gave us one his guitar picks. I am doing it right, parenting my kids on Prine. I hope they do the same. Thank you John, - your alot of help!

Hi We saw JP last night at Oaks Park in Portland Oregon. He was in great form. He seemed to be happy and had good energy. The crowd was a loyal one that sang along with every song. He did 2 hours and then a 4 song enchore. A good time was had by all. The outdoor venue seemed to please JP a lot. We love him and were so glad to hear him say he had beaten the cancer that has kept him off the road for 2 years.

  • BRITT FEST JACKSONVILLE JUNE 19, 1999

left spokane thursday afternoon and made it to the gorge to camp out. put our tent up after dark right between four jet sprinklers that came on at 12:30 am. the next nite at the john prine concert we were having such a good time and laughing at our last nite"s shower. john was great and did all the good ones. crowd was there for john and he was there for us. didn"t see him smoke one cigarrette.he was a little horse for a couple of songs during his solo spot but drank water a lot and got better.as the sun was sinking he did "talk dirty in hawaiian". it's fun to watch the people's faces who have never heard his songs.i've been a fan since his first album around 1970 i think.

I've seen John Prine live four times in the past, all of them very good shows. But last Saturday night in Jacksonville, Oregon was definitely the best yet! He came onstage with more energy than I'd ever seen. The band was very tight. John joked and chatted with the audience. He played a very long set, and when it was over not only did no one want him to leave but it seemed like he only left reluctantly, as if he could have played all night. I can only hope he comes back, and soon! Thank you John. PS I have sent your music to one of Portugal's finest folk singer/songwriters, Pedro Barroso, a brilliant lyricist and a great musician, and he really loves your music too

Well *RED that was one hell of a concert and the venue is great. My daughter, who always refers to the music I listen to as fogey music has changed her tune somewhat. After she looked through the binoculors and saw Jason Wilber. I believe the words were "WOW he's hot". It was absolutely great to be there with my family and see how JP sang SAM STONE well that made my wife's night.

I can't tell you how much we enjoyed your concert last night at the Britt Festivals in Jacksonville, Oregon. Thank you so much for sharing your gift of music and humanity. Your wit and your sincerity touched us all who shared the night with you....God Bless.
