John and Fiona Prine at SoundcheckFROM: The webmistress can't get it together enough to put a real story together but here is a short take on meeting a whole lotta Prine Fans and pictures...stay tuned for the really long version, coming ...... someday

FROM: tobbob: When I met John in Nashville the flash on the camera wouldnt work & his comment was "Our smiles will light the photo". I laughed & said "there's a song in there somewhere."  I also talked with Fiona before the Ryman show & she was on pins & needles...said she aint never sang in front of a crowd that large {2,000). Guess she must have broke outta her shell...LOL... We just might see a solo from her soon..:-)

The show John Prine put on tonight was nothing short of Wonderful...I've been Lucky enough to see John many times since the early Chicago and Milwaukee days and I've had many favorite shows ( John, Jerry Jeff Walker & Lil Dougy Kershaw, Milw. Summerfest 1975..Wow..)and my favorite ones John has had what I always called "Happy Feet" and really seemed to enjoy himself at a higher level those nights...Saturday night John shared his songs and stories with us for over 2 and 1/2 hours and John, Jason and David were all sounding Great. Iris was an Angel and the voices seemed to fit together so very well. That night John also shared the city he calls home along with his Wife Fiona, his little brother Billy and his wonderful mother was there also....I think I saw the perfect show with equal parts of "Happy Feet" and "Happy Heart"...Thank You so very much for all you share with us John.....God Bless

I FINALLY GOT TO SEE THE MAN HIMSELF LAST NIGHT IN NASHVILLE AND I MUST SAY HE WAS TERRIFFIC. MY BOYFRIEND HAD SEEN HIS SHOW IN LOUISVILLE AND WHEN HE CAME BACK THAT NIGHT HE SAID WE WOULD GO TO THE SHOW IN NASHVILLE. SO WE LOADED UP WITH SOME FAMILY AND DROVE THE 4 HOURS TO CHECK HIM OUT. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW SAID HE HAD WAITED 5 YEARS TO SEE HIM. IT WAS WONDERFUL. WE WOULD LIKE TO GET TICKETS TO CHICAGO, BUT SOLD OUT.

JOHN DOUGLAS AKA pougles REVIEW

The original Space Monkey's Knoxville Review

FROM - Mike
This was the most enjoyable concert
event I have ever attended. Not only for the great songs and lyrics but due to the fact that John Prine seemed to enjoy so much what he was doing. Don't miss this tour if you are a fan or just want to see what this John Prine guy is all about.

FROM- Christine
WOW!!!!
I have been a John Prine fan for many years and have never seen him live. Last night at the Tennessee Theater was the greatest. John felt it too, the smile on his face said it all. So many came out to support him. After being ill - that means so much. Thank you - John - for the wonderful evening and please come to Knoxville again.

Just in from the show.
Front row nonetheless!  Fantastic.  Todd Snider was great.  He seemed a bit subdued, but was excellent.  Only did about thirty minutes though.  Half a dozen more songs I would have liked to heard.  He looked so damn happy and grateful to be there.  It was very endearing.  You could see his shoes sticking out from the side of the stage as he listened in during Johns set.  And of course Prine.  God I hope my hair is half that cool when I am his age.  I was too caught up to get a set list.  Though it was all great.  A couple I had not heard before.  Illegal Smile was missing.  And I got about a dozen front row pictures!  Hope they come out.  Encored with Paradise w/ Maura O'Connell, Todd, and Billy Prine helping out.  The sound was terriffic as was the accompaniment by Jason and Dave. ~ -Gotta run.  Hope everyone else has as much fun.

ON THE ROAD WITH WOG

From: Richard Weintraut
Well, It's official.. the John Prine Tour 99 has started. I was lucky enough to be in Bristol the 25th and John put on a great show.  R.B. Morris opened, and although I've never considered myself a big fan, his set was very good.. I may have to give him another listen.
John came out and gave a brief mention of his bout with cancer. Said he wanted his first tour stop to be in Bristol and proceeded to show the crowd that he has lost none of his magic.
One of the songs that John performed, which I don't remember him doing in concert a lot, was "A Good Time".. It's one of my favorites and after the show I wondered if some of the lines in this song don't hold a special meaning for John after his illness..
Time was once Just a clock to me
And life was just a book A biography
Success was something You just had to be
And I would spend my self Unknowingly
I really don't know, but after the past year or so... John looked well, sounded good.. and seemed very happy to be back on the road.  At the end of the show he said "Thanks for being a part of this special night with me".. or something close to that... It was quite a moment.   I didn't take notes, make a set list, and I'm not a "reviewer". It was just a great night.  Several of the "chatters" from the John Prine Shrine were in attendance, maybe when the return from the road... they'll post some real reviews. Welcome back John !

TROUT'S REVIEW

FROM- Juanita
We went to the Opry House and the show itself was a good one but for John, he was asked by Marty Stewart and he really didn't get to talk or anything but play a couple of his old tunes, but we still enjoyed it and decided that from now on we will just go to his shows and not when he is going to appear with others, We were disappointed at the outcome but it still was worth going to.  He played his two songs and sang and then he left, we didn't get to see anyone afterwards, but we did have a good time but if I hear of anything or we go anywhere to see him I will be glad to write and let you know how it goes , and anything else we might get to do as far as talking to him.  Have a good day and will get back to you soon. (webmistress note:  I think that this is the way it goes at such non concert events, John was just a guest appearance and not the headliner for the evening.)
