DELAWARE SHOWS

GRAND THEATRE, WILMINGTON 9/14/00

  • FROM: Sid
This was my first show. I've been listening to his stuff for 25 years or more. He put on one fantastic show. True entertainer!! He did alot of old and threw in alot of new stuff too. I was going to write a playlist but got in a trance by him. Came out with just him and two others. No drums or keyboards. The sound was supurb....The opening act, Todd Snider was also very entertaining. They got together for an encore. Will go back anytime anywhere in the northeast to see him again. I WILL NOT miss a show. Want all to know he looked and sounded good....

First of all, the Grand Opera House is an absolute concert venue, every magnificent twang from John's guitar was audible. This was the first time I had seen him, and he absolutely blew me away even if he didn't do "Illegal Smile". From "Sam Stone" to "Hello in There" to Donald and Lydia" John both wowed and mesmerized the fortunate 2500 or so. I'm already anxiously anticipating his return to the Philly area.

With these words after the opening song, "Spanish Pipedream" Mr. Prine kicked off 2 hours plus of his classics. The song list was pretty much what he played 2 years ago when we saw him at Wolf Trap with a few exceptions. I don't remember him playing "Please Don't Bury Me" and "Grandpa Was A Carpenter" last time. Or "Jesus, The Missing Years" He played all 3 in Wilmington. Todd Snider was also great! Very entertaining and prolific songwriter and performer. We bought his CD and he came out to the lobby and autographed it. It's great to see John giving this guy a shot. The Grand Opera House in Wilmington was a perfect place to see this show. Not a bad seat in the house. Great acoustics and very intimate. I'm going to try to go to the show in WV in Nov. Thank God John Prine is still out there doing it and giving us all the chance to hear him live! The world is a better place with him and his music around.
