VERMONT SHOWS
FROM: Sue aka Wildflower
As in Toronto and Ottawa, the crowd definitely favored Johnny! The concert was
just great! Definitely alot of Prine fans in the audience. Everyone was singing.
Except for Emmylou, he sang more songs than all the others. He did "Hello
In There" to a totally hushed audience. After the intermission they all
sang along to Nanci and John doing "Speed of the Sound of
Loneliness". All the others were great, too but I For the encore, everyone
joined in for "If I had a Hammer" led off by Nanci. John ended the
show with "Paradise" with everyone in the whole theatre singing along.
Other than Hello In There, the audience sang along to all of John's songs.
Wonderful concert!
I was in the third row with John right in front of me on
stage so I was somewhat distracted. I can't tell you exactly what everyone else
sang.
-Emmylou sang first-Red Dirt Girl
-John (and everyone else including the audience) - That's the
Way the World Goes Round (I was hoping he'd tell the Happy Enchilada story
but he didn't)
- Bruce Cockburn - Rumors of Glory
- Mary Chapin Carpenter - Be My Superman
- Steve Earle - Goodbye(?)
- Nanci Griffith - This Part of You
- John Prine - Hello In There (I saw tears in the eyes of the
mayor of Burlington sitting in front of me)
- Emmylou Harris- Boy from Tupelo
- Bruce Cockburn - Mozambique
- Nanci Griffith and Emmylou Harris - It's a Hard Life
- Mary Chapin Carpenter - (can't remember )
- Steve Earle - (can't remember )
- John Prine, Nanci Griffith (and everyone)- Speed of the Sound of
Loneliness
- Emmylou Harris - Bang the Drum Slowly
- Nanci Griffith and the whole theatre all - If I Had a Hammer
Encore
- Steve Earle - Come Back to Us Woody Guthrie
- John Prine and Everyone - a rousing, foot tapping, hand clapping,
(everyone in the whole place standing and singing) version of Paradise
Didn't get to meet John this time. They all took off right after the
show. Probably because it was snowing and felt like 20 degrees below zero with
the wind chill factor. He did smile and wave as he got on the bus and shook a
few hands. I'm sure he would've gladly hung around signing stuff if the bus
driver wasn't trying to hurry him along.
Fantastic concert. Important cause. Wonderful evening up here in VT.
