Old Sarah Brown sells tickets down At the all night picture show

Bruce Thomasson's Arkansas River Fest John Prine photo album

Prine performed on a stage at the end of a street. He was scheduled for the amphitheater last year, but got rained out and returned this year to play the date.

So many people crowded in that everyone had to stand. I was about 60 feet back, but the zoom on my Sony CD1000 practically put him in my lap.

Prine did two songs that I was not familiar with, but still I saw a couple of people in the crowd who were singing along. It was a very tight trio with a bass man David Jacques and Jason Wilber who played mandolin, guitar, and harmonica.

As always, Prine was humorous and having a good time. At one point, while being bombarded with moths buzzing the stage lights, he said 'I wish a big one would just come along and get it over with'. He also talked some about a movie he had filmed here three years ago with Billy Bob Thornton and Andy Griffith: it's so good they haven't released it yet. (While he was here for the filming a friend of mine who went to school with Billy Bob wound up having lunch with Billy Bob, Andy and Prine.....I would have liked to have been in on that.) 2001 Bruce Thomasson
