Old Sarah Brown sells tickets down At the all night picture showBruce Thomasson's Arkansas River Fest John Prine photo albumPrine performed on a stage at the end of a street. He was scheduled for the amphitheater last year, but got rained out and returned this year to play the date. So many people crowded in that everyone had to stand. I was about 60 feet back, but the zoom on my Sony CD1000 practically put him in my lap. Prine did two songs that I was not familiar with, but still I saw a couple of people in the crowd who were singing along. It was a very tight trio with a bass man David Jacques and Jason Wilber who played mandolin, guitar, and harmonica. As always, Prine was humorous and having a good time. At one point, while being bombarded with moths buzzing the stage lights, he said 'I wish a big one would just come along and get it over with'. He also talked some about a movie he had filmed here three years ago with Billy Bob Thornton and Andy Griffith: it's so good they haven't released it yet. (While he was here for the filming a friend of mine who went to school with Billy Bob wound up having lunch with Billy Bob, Andy and Prine.....I would have liked to have been in on that.) ©2001 Bruce Thomasson Photos are exclusive to the John Prine
