Ha Ha, verrrryyyy funny Lawton! Not only will you be hearing John and Iris singing and I won't, others will be watching him and Bonnie on Austin City Limits, and I won't! Our station doesn't air it until next week, sooooo....y'all don't tell me how it ends, okay? LOL... And how did you get misplaced hillbillies from migrant southerners? hmmmmm? You ain't misplaced good friend, you are in EXACTLY THE RIGHT PLACE! Biggest hugs to you, Julie, and all those wonderful offspring!

Man, I don't know what to think! I invite my friends up here to one of the nicest places on the planet and all they can do is talk about our bad theaters and tell us we are misplaced hillbillies. My mom warned me about friends like these. Thanks a lot guys. I WAS really feeling bad that by this time tomorrow, I will be in the fourth row watching John and Iris singing and playing and you guys won't be there. But, you changed my mind.
Rich.
PS...Love ya:)

awwwwwww Reeda, I knew you couldn't be finished with it cuz ya don't end yore stories without the bestest thanks to the principals...and I love the warm fuzzies you give me when you publicly thank and love your Burhead. One of the reasons I like hangin' with y'all, you emit positive and loving vibes.
I have a question...who did the little dog for John and what is apalca? And the bigger question is how did "this person" know what his dog looks like? hmmmmmm? haha...
And I guess we all have to eventually have what I call an "A 'n I" story, huh Reeda...Ames In Iowa! One, weirdo, scary, or pissed off time, huh? I had mine in Kzoo. If people think that all Nazi's went to South America,Beware! some are managing theatres all around the country! LOL Big Hug

Reeda! Great Story! If a person can't make a show all's they gotta do is read your story and they'll feel like they were there! And if they're sweatin' real bad, their bra feels like it's shrink wrap around their you know what's and finish reading the story and discover they have stripped down to their skivvies, they'll feel just like they were in the State Theatre "sweatin with the oldies"! Thanks for catchin me and Dennis up on what we missed after "In Spite Of Ourselves". sigh.sob.sigh.sob.smile:)...oh and when I was checkin' the menu, remember that I brought a case of authentic Moon Pies from Lookout Mountain Tennesse thinkin' I'd brought sumpin real home grown only to discover at the convenience store in Lawton Sunday morning that they sell them there! Sheesh! I always forget that folks from Michigan are just migrant southerners! LOL...HOPE TO SHARE A WEEK OF WEEKEND WITH Y'ALL AGAIN REAL SOON!!! BIG HUGGGGGG FROM THE DELTA!!

I wrote the Kalamazoo Gazette about the lack of climate-control and water in the State Theatre and I wrote the State Theatre managment suggesting customer service training for their management staff! Rich and Julie, keep an eye out for a letter to the editor will ya? Hope it gets printed. The rest of the weekend was awesome and worth the freakin' drive! Thanks so much Reeda for making these friendships and shows a possiblity for all of us! I'm gonna make a new Reeda-Shrine in my living room in your honor! I finally got this damn computer running again. I felt so left out cause I couldn't get on the net for three whole weeks, but I'm back. I'm so glad I got to experience the whole soiree and camp out. What a blast. I haven't camped out in 20 years. And to finally get to meet John in person. What a thrill, even though I thought I was going to have to kill me a bouncer. But I managed to refrain, and I got back anyway. It was great to party with all the Shriners, old and new. The people were great, the wine was great, the music was great and the food was great. It was great seein g Reeda and Terry, and Rich and Julie, and Crusher and Eddie, and Kathy and the quiet guy and meeting all these Prine fans. What a blast. Thanks so much for letting me crash on you couch Julie, and Reeda for being such a great webmistess, You do an awesome job. If not for you this never would have happened. Brad and Sue,
It's quite possible that the young man you are talking about is Zach... if he had on a blue and white Jersey with the Prine Swine Soiree stuff on it, then it was he. I am waiting for the photos they took and will be posting them.... Also will be loading them to a Kodak site so people can order themselves prints if they want.
Lesley & Chris,
It was great to meet you too, and thanks for taking good care of my Canadian friend Ralph. He has been glowing ever since. Stay in touch - we sure would like to have you at our next group gathering!
EVERYONE ELSE:
I am posting stories about the Concert and Soiree... would sure like to have some from the rest of you. Everyone got to experience something different and it makes for interesting reading. Donna Donna... you came so far, and had such a miserable experience at the show... I do hope you find some time to share that...
Jon... dangit.. we forgot to bring a jar of Salsa home... I hope you and Kathy made it home safe and sound. One of these days you two are going to have to forego the room and rough it with the rest of us...
It was just too short of a weekend... next time we will cram a week into a weekend.

Hi,
Well I just wanted to tell everyone that Chris and I had a really great time at our very first John Prine Concert. We were floored by how great and willing to embrace us the people were. And John Prine was truly awesome, both in his unbelievable musical talent as well as his obviously beautiful heart. Chris and I just couldn't believe how patient and gracious he was after playing his heart out for us and it being so late. What a great guy! Thanks so much to Reeda for taking great pictures and then even posting us "newbies" on your web site. We feel pretty honored. Hi to our new friend Ralph in Canada, we had a lot of fun and appreciated all of the info he gave us that night about John Prine and the great conversation. And the end of the story goes...we all went home alone-really! Thanks again - Lesley

Does anybody know the young man who was taking pics. of John Prine with people back stage? He was using a digital camera and was about 15 yrs. old. I gave our e-mail address to a lovely woman who was with him. I have been a Prine fan for as long as I can remember and would sure like a copy of it. I sure would have liked to make the Soiree but was busy hope there is another one soon. Thanks for any help.

Just wanted to give my biggest thanks to you JULIE and RICH for a wonderful planned get together. I enjoyed myself..but then again I always do, when I with people I care about..and the quiet man enjoyed himself too.
Thanks Eddie, for dancing with me..if my hip was hurtin..I would have let it hurt just to dance with ya. You are as sweet as that greeeeaaaaattt pa of yours! Love ya Crusher. Always enjoy seeing ya DonnaDonna, just wished it could be longer, never have enough time...got to get to know DennisDennis! Had a great time singing. Thanks Rich for singing for us, I enjoyed your singing as much as JOHNS..and ya know what..JOHN even forgets the words to his owns songs..that he has been singing a lot longer. And look at me I was singing SPANISH PIPES DREAMS..and I lost some of the words too! Band was great, really enjoyed all they did for us. Reeda and Terry what can I say..can never get enough of you two..love ya from the bottom of my heart. Not trying to get mushy, but I love all my priney friends.
Like sausage on the grill sizzling..the poor audience and JOHN were just sizzling from the ungodly heat of the theater. It amazing that everyone survived! But inspite of the heat the concert was exceptional..and my friends are even more exceptional.
Can't wait for the next time..I will make more wine!
love kathy47 and the quiet man

Seeing the show, saying hi to Mr. Prine, visiting with all y'all, eating like a pig (may he rest in pieces) and spending the nite in the treller. I had a nice ride back to Ohio and didn't even get wet. Thank you to everyone involved.

Well, the campsites are all cleaned up and everyone is gone. It's just too quiet here tonight. Thank's so much to everyone that came. We had a great time with some good people. Many thanks to Reeda and Terry for the help at the party and for hanging doors and scrubbing tubs. It ended up being a beautiful day (thanks Ralph) and I am glad we were all able to get together. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. I thought the show was one of the best (of course, each show seems better than the last)in spite of the temperature of the theater (sorry Donna). It did seem short, but Reeda and I checked the setlist and all the songs were there. I will write more in the reviews, I just wanted to post a short "Thank you" here. See you all again soon, and again, thanks a lot for everything.

First WE had WOGstock... when an act of God blew the roof tiles out of the venue ceiling..... and it rained
Then we had CRUSHer's Lake Marie FEST... where an act of God caused torrential rains for many many hours and we were cozily cramped into a shed for what, 6-8 hours.
Now we have Lawton & Ligtnin'head's Pork Chops & Beaujolais Soiree - where there is a slight chance of scattered showers...
tee hee... stay tuned and see what Act, God has in store for this one....
(better bring an unbrella, plastic ground cover for under your tent, and maybe a raincoat.

Actually, I live I n Coloma, which is about 1/2 hr from Kazoo, and 20 min. or so from Lawton. It is between South Haven and Benton Harbor. So, how much corn should I bring? Or no? Hey kids...
I just talked to Lightnin'head this morning and they have something like a 200 pound hog and a keg (1 more on reserve) and bunch of litre's of pop ready for the party.
She thinks (and so do I) that if anyone wants to bring something but doesn't know what to bring, here are a few ideas. Lots of bread/buns - some of your favorite BBQ sauce. Since there will be so much pork, maybe we can slice off a bunch and BBQ and eat it on buns. Also... paper towels/napkins are needed too.
I'm going to go pick up a few cheapo drinking cups - but you know how those spill and trash a place... so remember to bring your own, then if you get a little tipsy you won't go drinking out of everyone's glass... since you will be able to identify your own.
Besides, these cups will never satisfy our delicate little crusher who tends to drink out of a half gallon cup.....
Can't wait to see some of the familiar old faces and meet up with the new ones!!

I have a some black raspberry jam, peach jam, and strawberry jam that I have made this year, and would love to bring some to share for breakfast/contribution. If it is cool enough this week, I may make some whole wheat bread also! I will be thinking of something to bring for the hog roast also. I tried to contact you last night but failed. New email is the yahoo one. Thanks, kim

just saw the latest itinerary update..so if we don't get there in time to use Julie's new toilet, or dinner at the brewery, maybe we'll catch up with ya at Burdick's...what I'm really saying Reeda is that I'm paying attention to everything and we will find you somewhere! I think we're gonna have sex in the theatre, we're in the second to last row of balcony clear on the right! What a hoot!!!!! Who the hell's gonna see us? HaHAAAAAAA!

Reeda, ETA? My best guess would be due to 11 hour drive, probably just meet y'all at the Olde Peninsula Brewery/Restaurant. As much as I'd like to get to Lightnin' Heads house and use her toilet I willin' to bet we don't get to town in time before y'all leave. So to avoid anxiety on my end, I'll use her toilet later that night!

Annette: I understand that there are less than 100 tickets available. No seat is ever bad at a Prine concert - I've enjoyed myself front row center and in the nosebleeds - I would buy the tickets - with my luck this would be the only concert that some poor soul isn't standing outside forced to give up their excellent seats due to some family emergency.
Tom: Everyone always wants to meet John... there are never any 'plans' just hopes and dumb luck.

My husband introduced JP to me about 4 years ago. I have been a huge fan ever since. I just checked out his concert and was very excited to see him playing close to us. I went into ticket master and the only seats left are balcony. My question is: are these seats worth going to the concert? Or is there a chance we should wait and buy that night. I am just excited to see him in concert, but I want to see him.
This will be my first JP concert (Kalamazoo) my husband and I will be celebrating our 2 year anniversary. I just was wondering if anyone could help?
Thanks so much!!

Hello everyone:
I was just wondering if anybody is making any plans to meet the man after the show (as a group?) I would not want to impose on him in any way, but by the same token I would really like to meet him just to say "thanks for the music" or something else equally dumb.

hey guys,
sorry i haven't responded in a while - here's an update from my end. the space is ready and available to host the after show shin-dig, however, we are having a show ourselves the night
of the prine show, so here's how it'll have to work - we open at 7 a.m. on friday, and will be open continuously until after the show ends, i.e. 1 or so a.m. the show will start swinging around
6 or 7 p.m. or so, and we'll be charging from then until the last band, who i'm going to catch, goes on. after the show ends, people usually bail right away to go drink, so it shouldn't be a problem to get everyone out so the prinesters can
come in. my concern is this...what is everyone going to do from 10p.m. when the prine show is over, until 1 or so a.m. when the space show is over? my best guess? drink. there are tons of
bars between the state theater and the space, so i hope that everyone will drink their way over...I would say that folks could come down and check out the show, but it's heavy metal night... REALLY GOOD HEAVY METAL...so, if you guys have any questions, please call me at -616-720-7612 or email me back ...right o. take care and see you in a couple weeks!
all the best,
brian frain

Hey Prine Swiners!!!
I hope this works for us. The new messages will be at the top and you just need to scroll down to read. I made it myself, so no whining, okay....
Lightnin'head has Lawton laying new linoleum... and cleaning claw foot bathtubs... so we'll probably have to take our shoes off before we enter their house.... ewwwwwww.... someone bring the odor eaters, will ya?

Well, I've made up my mind. I know shouldn't be such a hard thing to do, so little to work with! haha...Dennis and I are coming to the fest...have to, got to, can't miss spending more than 30 minutes with my PhrinePhamily! I need a good dose of y'all, so I'm puttin' new strings on the guitar, blowin' off the dust, and filing my fingertips. Guess first thing I need to do is get tickets...I always forget to do that! I'M SO EXCITED!!!!
Rich and Julie, I'll be callin' ya soon for some particulars, you know, like the best aluminum foil for lightnin' hats in Michigan and all! haha...big delta hug!

high folks looking foward to the show and party in lawton
peace
Hello everyone. The plans are starting to come together. The hog has been sentenced and the kegs are on reserve. We met the campground folks over the weekend again and they are getting prepared for us. I told them to make sure they had escape plans for hemselves. A lot of folks have let us know that they are coming(last count was around 100)and I think were in for a great time. The band is practicing a lot of JP tunes and plan on playing as long as we want. We're looking forward to seeing all of you and if you haven't registered yet, please do so, we don't want to run out of pork and beer.
See you all soon.
Rich and Julie.
Friday Lodging
Hello everyone. If you plan on staying at the campsite (where the party will be)friday night after the show, you will need to contact the campground and reserve a site. We only have the sites reserved for saturday. You can get the phone number off
the shrine (follow the info link) or let me know and I will reserve a site for you. Also, there are a couple of hotels not for from the campground (those phone numbers are also in the shrine). If I can assist anyone in reservations or additional info, just let me know.
See you all soon,
Rich.
Folks. There's some new info in the Shrine concerning hotels and directions. Take a look. If you have any questions or concerns, let us know. We'll be glad to help. Also, if you plan on coming don't forget to let us know.
See ya soon,
Rich.

hey everyone...sorry i've been absent for the past three weeks. the space is a collectively, volunteer-run art, music and coffee place that tries to be all-encompassing for an area like alamazoo. we have a full stage and are equipped to house a full band - email booking@thespacekzoo.com for info - we only serve coffee, but there are two really great microbrewries right next door, kraftbrau, where todd snider played, and bell's, right across the street. we can definitely do a jam session, album signing, or anything like that. i will be available from now on to answer any further questions...hope to see you all in september!
