Dear Mr. Prine; My husband and I have been fans of yours since the first time we heard you. One of the best lines I've ever heard in a song is "you come home straight, and you come home curly". Your music inspires me. Thank you.

Thanks for the music..... Love all the music - every song. I share your music with my 5 children ranging in ages 20 yrs. to 6 months - your gift will be loved and respected for generations to come. Thank You, Charlotte

Your music has been a part of my life. My dad tuned me in to Bruised Orange years ago. I learned to play a few songs on the guitar as a kid. I even went as far as playing Dear Abby, and Bruised Orange to my 8th grade class.. Btw they loved it. In highschool I entered a Mrs IHS talent show and played bruised orange again.. I have to say you inspired parts of my life with your musical stories.. When my dad became sick before he died I sang in his ear.. one of ur songs.. I knew how much he loved your music.. So I sent him to heaven singing.. Thats the way the world goes round.. and... back in the 80s you came to gainesville, Fl and played with Bonie Ratt. It was a special time in my life to be with my dad and watch you in concert. Thanks for being a part of my life.. Hope to see you in concert again in gainesville.. Keep playing the tunes!!!
Today is My dads Birthday and I'm sure he's smiling down ... saying Sing it again John!

Thank you so much for the add and for all the wonderful music you've provided the world. Woohoo...I can't believe it. Thank you again. Lol, we went to one of your shows in San Francisco the night my daughter was supposed to be born, I guess it's a good thing she decided to wait a week or she'd have been named Lydia or Barbara Lewis.

Dear john...you are one of my favorite song writers. Your music has greatly influenced me and I thank you. I learned how to fingerpick "sour grapes" and "clocks and spoons" when I was thirteen by listening to "diamonds in the rough" a million times. all my friends thought it was silly but it touched me down deep. I still say today that john prine taught me how to fingerpick, whether you knew it or not. Thanks again.

I dont know if you remember or not, but my sister once wrote you a message, like I am doing now, explaining why me and my sister like you music. My dad loved to hear you play and to sing and even had memorized most of your songs, well to say the least his enthusiasm seeped into me and my sister and also my two older brothers. When he passed we all found comfort in you music, in fact one song in particular fish and whistle, but for me it was souveniers, well to say the least whenever we are missing him, or going through a tough time we tend to gravitate towards you music. You music has been a personal inspiration for me to follow my own love of playing my trumpet, now i dont know if i will ever be able to go as far as you did, but i will play for the rest of my life. I know that you have touched many lives with your music, but to say the least i think my family love dearly for what you mean to us. I know that your a busy man and that i should keep this as short as possible, but John you are a great musician and you keep doin what your doin, because no matter what happens i will be a fan for life, as well as my family. I thank you from the bottom of my heart that you have decided to do what you have done, in playing music of course.
Leslie Ranson (from ReverbNation.com) - 11/22/2006
John, I am so glad you have put songs on this site. I have come to really enjoy your music as of late. I have always been a Dylan fan because he spoke to my life...however as I skid toward 65 I realize how meaningful your music has become to me. The songs about "everyman"...the couple out of love and closing up the bar...going through the motions. The husband who is far away at the bar as his wife criticizes him. These songs and the speed of the sound of loneliness make me continue to realize that I need to make those hard choices...and not settle. Especially not settle now that I am an old Geezer with limited years left. Now I will have to buy an ipod or something to download your new songs. I really enjoy the 4 you have posted here though I am sure the quality of sound on this computer is not that great. I hope to get to a concert of yours someday. Seems I am always off traveling somewhere when you get down south here. Keep writing we fans are out here

Who knew? Thirty-six years ago a friend gave me John Pirne. Yes, I still have it. The first time I had my wife-to-be over for dinner I asked what she's like to listen to. She asked if I had any John Prine (not such an expected request from my circle of friends). Happily I had all of John Prine. We proceeded to spend the night listening to John Prine and planning our wedding (we were pretty drunk, it was only the first time that I'd had her over). Less than seven months later we had that wedding on 10/10/82. Who knew we'd picked your birthday? We recently celebrated our fourteenth John Prine birthday together.
Thanks for filling our souls.
Much love and appreciation,
Kurt & Bonnie

I just want to say thank you. Thank you for all your wonderful music. Your music has been a part of my life for over 25 years! Your like a friend to my heart! Every song means something to me. Maybe not what your intentions were when you wrote it, but every song has it's own special meaning to me. I hope you are happy, and that you found that woman that made your knees knock and that she knows every single word to all your songs. For it is a big old goofy world and I just wanted you to know that there is a whole family up here in Michigan that would never want to know what life would be like with out John Prine!

Chip - Nov 11 2006
hey so Im not sure who runs this site but, I wanted to say the I just moved to Nashville a month ago and while standing in line to see a movie I looked up to see Mr. Prine standing right in front of me..being is hes a legend and me a fan I thought it fun that I was standing right behind him..anyway, as I told people I know abouit it I started hearing other little stories of encounters with Mr. Prine and the reason I wanted to write this letter was to say that everyone has the nicest things to say. I hear tons of horrid celebrity stories but with Prine all I have heard is sweet, really nice, kind things and so I wanted to say how glad I was of that...that he is how he puts himself out there to be and that if you ..whoever runs this site...knows him to let him know that people appreciate him and his goodhearted nature...that they say kind things about him behind his back. Thanks, Chip

Your songs inspire me when I need inspiring, make me laugh when i need to laugh and bring tears to my eyes when they need to be seen. THANK YOU JOHN PRINE. You are beautiful artist and I hope your here for many more years, thank you.

Hi there, I don't know if you actually read your mail or if someone does it for you. Anyway, thanks for adding me to your 'friends' list. You certainly have an impressive number of friends by the way...5K ++ is nothing to sneeze at! I have been enjoying your music since the 70's when I was a 16 year old, dating a guy who thought he was you, lol! Anyway, the good news for me, is that while years ago, I am still as big a JP fan as ever. When my oldest daughter was 9 months old I pawned my guitar to see you in concert in Roanoke, VA (my hometown). I finally had the opportunity to see you again 4 years ago in New Haven. Oh well, I'm sure you get enough fan mail and I am not one to drool over celebrities. I am a substance abuse counselor for women coming out of prison and it has been a really long day. Thanks again for adding me, and it is always a joy to hear new music from you!
Phil - 11.8.06
So I've been listening to you since I was like 4. My dad brought me up with your voice as the background. He used to play the Diamonds in the Rough LP over and over. I've got a ton of your stuff, and I bought my dad your anthology and t-shirt for Fathers Day this year. You better keep touring and come near Kansas. You are in the number #1 spot for artists I need to see before I die. I'm only 23, so hopefully I will be able to see you many times, judging by the "Fair and Square" album, you've still got it. I'm just learning guitar, and I've got your old songbook. I promise you, "Sam Stone" will be the first song that I learn. God Bless.

Hello John Prine, It is so amazing to send you a message. I grew up listening to you. I am 17 and one of your shows in Madion when I was about 10 was my first concert. I love it your music strums a chord in my heart. I just wanted to let you know that you music is a major part of my house hold. My dad , mother and family friends listen to you. We continue to listen to your music. I wanted to let you know to keep up the good work. You are amazing.
P.S. one of my favorite songs is and has always been Daddy's Little Pumpkin. I would sing that song in first grade to my class. My mom and dad told me that it probably wasn't a good song for a 7 year old to sing. ~ A sincere John Prine fan, Desirae Wolden

Hi Mr. Prine, I have been a fan of yours forever....I can remember when Dear Abby came out for crying out loud. Anyway, I think I may be too old too be fooling around on myspace, at least my children think it's creepy. Ah, but here is a kindred spirit. I love your music, love your lyrics even more. I have found comfort and relief in them over the years. Thanks for the good stuff!

Hi John, ...played sessions for you years ago. Good to be in touch with you again. Let me know what you're doin'...maybe we can get together again sometime.

There were years in my life when -even though I'm a record producer- I listened to nothing else but records by John Prine and Townes van Zandt. And I still have to fight the tears every time I hear "Hello In There"... Thanks & greetings from Berlin...

Hi John, I too am a neck cancer survivor. I heard you on a radio interview about a year and a half ago saying that you had survived neck cancer and you now have a new appreciation for everything. I thought to myself, "What the heck is neck cancer"? Well, one year ago today I found out what it was. All through my treatment I thought of how you had beaten the devil and it gave me strength during those rough times. I'm doing pretty good now and I too have a new appreciation for everything. Thank you from the bottom of my still beating heart!

i saw you in hollywood last week. amazing. your my favorite singer/songwriter of all time. your a family tradition. keep on a goin. Your words echo in my head on a daily basis. My father was a huge fan, and I have become a fan of at least equal size. Actually, I'm 3 inches taller. I'm 28 years old, and have been listening to your music since I can remember. I am also a musician and I sincerely thank you for your influence. I cant decide which song of yours is my favorite, but I think its between Sam Stone, Dear Abby, and Donald and Lydia. My name is Donald, and I was once a young PFC. Maybe that has to be my favorite, via vicarious meaning. I'm from Pittsburgh, PA and I look forward to seeing you play around here. I'll be sure to keep a watch on your website for upcoming shows.

I'm an old dude who has been through heaven and it's counterpart. I was once gripped in a sadness that overwhelmed me for months...deaths and losses I couldn't reconcile. I stumbled onto a John Prine album and wept to hear understanding combined with humor and melody that peirced me to that place inside that would not heal. No one does what he does with music. I saw him when he played at the Paramount in Seattle. Last month my sweetheart gave me a present for my 64th birthday of flying us to Nashville to see and hear him sing three songs at Dave Pomeroy's benefit for the homeless. His second tune was dedicated to the couple from Seattle. At that point it became personal. Six decades have taught me a thing or two. You find things that are of great worth to you and if you are lucky you can pursue them whilst you are still on the planet. So whenever it is possible I plan on making a pilgrimage to his concerts every now and again when I need a John Prine fix. Maybe at one of these I will hear him finish singing the story of my life.

Bob-Just Curious:
During one of the interview sections on his Sessions at West 54th DVD available at http://www.ohboy.com Prine mentions how he got started in the business by playing at an amateur hour for a local club. After hearing the first three songs he’d ever written Prine was hired permanent. ------
Those three songs? “Souvenirs,” “Paradise,” and “Sam Stone.”

This is actually my boyfriend, Brian's story... but it made me become a John Prine fan. And I think it is the kind of story that I would want to hear if I was a musician, so I want to share it with you. I grew up in a family that geatly appreciated music and for that reason, our family gatherings, especially Christmas, revolved around caroling and singing. It is this and many other traditions that made me believe that the job of music and musicians is to bring people together. I have never believed this to be more true than in this case. Your music sincerely touched the lives of three young men more than you will ever know. Try to imagine a car full of three young Montana cowboys cruising down the interstate looking for something to listen to. One of them pulls out a cd and pops it in the stereo. It was this moment that Brian's best friend Taylor introduced him and his second best friend, John, to your music. They had many more moments just like this as they grew up: camping, fishing, driving and just sitting around each other's basements enjoying a cold beverage while your greatest hits played in the background. As the years passed, of course, they became separated by distance, but they remained the best of friends. And I know they each continued to listen to your music. We even called John once and Illegal Smile was his voice message. I was introduced to your music on a long road trip from Minneapolis, MN to Billings, MT. We listened to a collection of yours the entire 11 hour drive and I began to learn why those three young men appreciated your music so much. Unfortunately, the story takes a sad turn here... last April, Taylor became very ill and passed away. I have never seen grown men so broken. I watched helplessly as the most loyal and beautiful friendship I have ever seen between men came to a tragic end. If you don't know anyone from Montana, there is one thing that will become apparent the instant you meet a Montanan - to them, loyalty, friendship and family are the ultimate values. When one is in trouble, they all are in trouble, when one dies, a part of each of them dies. The day Brian and John had to serve as pall bearers for Taylor was probably the hardest day they have had to face in their 31 years and I know that they miss him deeply and still struggle to deal with their loss and grief. I know that your music has helped with that. Just the other day, Brian was listening to your songs and I could tell he was remembering Taylor and all of the wonderful memories they shared. Your music is a huge part of that. And as I sit here with him listening to Bad Boy, I had to share that with you. I hope that you are able to read this and know how much your music means, and meant, to three young, wild and wonderful Montana cowboys. I am hoping to get Brian tickets to your show in Davenport, Iowa. If you get this and are moved at all, dedicate a song to Brian, John and Taylor... three of your longest and best fans at the Iowa show. Hopefully we will be there to hear it... Thanks for being such an inspiration and talented musician. And for continuing to keep Brian close to Taylor. They were the best of friends and as hard as it is to lose your best friend, your music helps keep his spirit alive. As I said before, I think the goal of music is to bring people together and there is no doubt in my mind that you have accomplished this through these three tremendous young men.

This is my first time writing anything to a fan club.I can remember the first time that I heard a Prine song. I was living in Nashville,Tn and my husband and I were having a heated verbal discussion. He put on a cd and the words just seem to fit. STOP HOLLERING AT ME!. I have been a John Prine fan since that day. We still laugh about it all the time. His words in his music hit home alot. We will be at the Feb 17 concert in Lexington,Ky celebrating our 24 wedding anv.I purchased tickets as a christmas gift to him and was strolling around the net and found this site. I would just like to thank Mr Prine for enriching my life with his words. I can't wait to see my husbands face on Christmas morning. After 24 years I have stopped
Hollering at him. See all the rest of you fans in Lexington. I can't think of a better place to spend my Anv. than with my husband and John Prine.

Years ago I heard John play a song he wrote sometime during the German Afternoon tour... something about "dancing on the wall." Are there any recordings of this?
Bob
Dear John, (ow Whomever else might be interested) About 40 years ago, give or take a few years, I left the Old Town School of Folk Music on a Thursday to go to the weekly "hootnanny" It was either at the Saddle Club or "The Fifth Peg." I don't recall which as they used both at various times.Ray Tate, the musical director of the Old Town School, as usual was the MC. He told the audience that usually he would present the top professional folk singers who happened to be in town. He then said that he had heard a young songwriter-performer who was working as a mail carrier in Maywood earlier that day. He said he was going to deviate fromhis usual procedure and bring up this "kid." He siad it was his first performance anywhere before a large audience. He said his name was John Prine. A nervous looking skinny young guy with bad teeth played the only three songs he said he was prepared to play at the time. We in the audience had never heard anything like it and our thunderous applause lead to you playing the same three songs again. The rest is history. I just thought you might like to know that there still is an old guy around who remembers that moment clear as a bell. Bob

I just go back from a 24 hour round-trip and I brought Johnny along to keep me company. I can listen to John's music over and over again and hear something that I hadn't heard the last time I listened. Anyways, what I wanted to say is, John I think your music is timeless; I love your musical style and I love your insight into human behavior. The first time I had ever heard of you was on my "first date" with my future husband. At the time I was listening to stuff like Tom Waites, Hank Williams, Sr. Bob Dylan,Warren Zevon, plus the 2000 alternative rock stuff; but It was April of 2000 and my husband came up to my place, cause he heard from my parents that I was building a fence in front of my house, to keep the dogs out of the road, and he was gonna help me finish it. Well, he's always whistling and singing and whenever he'd use the level he'd sing "Is it level on the level" I know, wrong words, but my husband always puts his own words in songs. either because he feels like it, or he doesn't know any better, I haven't figured out which, yet. At some point we were talking about music and past husbands, ect..and he said, "I have a tape I bet you'd like." "There's even a song in it about a guy who has a hole in his arm where all the money goes, " which tied in to the part where I was telling him how I left my first husband 'cause he used to take the rent and car payment and grocery money and leave me and my daughter alone for days at a time in the middle of nowhere, with no phone or car or food, and she used to wear her cousin's left-over clothes, when I bothered to put any on her. (My fault I know, but I wasn't using it as an example of my mistreatment, but of an example of how stupid I had been and how I wasn't stupid like that anymore;after my daughter was born I only stayed for eighteen months, it could've been worse, I could still be there) So, that's how I first started listening to Johnny Prine, and my daughter does have her daddy's eyes and he never did mean to hurt her, he was just a poor choice for a father on my part. But that's the part I am trying to get to, That's why I like to listen to John's music, because there are all kinds of examples of stupid behavior causing stupid results, and I'm like what the hell, it's too late for me to go back and re-do my life, but I can add some insight into my daughter's life from my experience; but it doesn't work that way. Kids think they are above their parent's stupid mistakes and they don't listen to your lectures, when you go into lecture mode they start tuning-out. So, now when my daughter calls me with her latest crisis I've stopped trying to explain, "well, you're in a down cycle, ride it out and you'll be coming back up again, until your next down cycle, that's the way life is," cause she doesn't listen to words when she's upset, she just wants to vent her misery. Instead I just start singing "that's the way that the world goes round, ect..." and she ignores me because my music choices drive her nuts, she's like "Oh, God how can you listen to that stuff? ", and she isn't listening anyways; But the last time she called with a pretty serious crisis, of her own making-and she was more angry with herself than with the outcome 'cause she knew she had caused it, and it was something I had warned her about repeatedly in the past - and I wanted to tell her to move on, learn from your mistakes, but she was too caught up in her own misery to move on; and I wanted her to know that it wasn't the end of the world, this was one of those screw-ups that you can re-cover from; so I started singing "That's the way that the world goes 'round." and she's like, "What song are you singing," like she'd never heard it before in her life-I guess she hadn't, she had never been listening before-and she's like "How do spell his name, I'm gonna down-load it on my i-pod. :) That's my Johnny story.
Pretty cool-Like I said, Johnny, your insight into human behavior is timeless, My 22 year old daughter found some comfort and inspiration from one of your songs and she might even find more, from other songs of yours, since she's allowed herself to open the door to your music.
That's all, Thanks for keeping me company on long road trips. :) You never get boring.

I have listened to your music, been to a number of your live performances, and considered myself a fan of yours for over 25 years. I was pleased and filled with anticipation when I was able to get tickets for your performance in Sacramento on 10/20/06 although a bit taken aback at the cost. Mr Prine my ticket did not say "John Prine and -------" nor did it say "opening for John Prine -------" so I was more than flabbergasted and disappointed when more than an hour after the music started you still had not reached the stage. Your failure to advertise honestly or even give credit to your opening act ahead of time has brought me to the conclusion that I no longer can support you and your music. Mr Prine because of the misleading concert information, over priced ticket and POOR performance you have lost a fan.
Still Kelly from Isla Vista, Calif
Boy were we ever excited to see that John Prine was coming to our town. He brought good luck to me. I had heard that Bill Clinton was going to be in town, just the night before I went to buy my ticket to John Prine, andwheen I got to the Arlington box office, the ticket book with the seats for sale was open to Bill Clinton. "what ?" I exclaimed! Are there going to be Bill Clinton tickets you can buy? ( A valid question as the news said he was coming, but the tickets were free and you could only get in if you were in Gueymisters Political Science class, which bummed me out as he teaches at UCSB, and I am a senior at CSUCI, down the road. So I bought my excellent John Prine ticket for the front row of the balcony ( Yes that was me singing so loud up there ) And I was able to log on to Ticket master the next day at 11:00 AM when the Clinton tickets went on sale and managed to purchace my way into that lecture as well.
After shows, I like to try for an autobraph and to look into the eyes of the folks signing them to see who they are. When Clinton came out he made a beeline to me first and shook my hand and said "God Bless YOu" and I said "God Bless You, Mr. PResidetnt" Well Bill stood around for about an hours signing autographs and taking photos with people and I was so awed I forgot to get my photo taken with him, asking for an autograph instead, and then when the secret service brought all the autographs back from the car where he signed the last of them, mine was stolen. So the secret service man, who took my addy, and phone number called the next Friday and said a new autograph is in the mail.
So I thought about meeting John Prine and what did I need to bring with? So I brought my samsung video phone, a white craola so the autograph would show up on the black DVD cover of Sessions at west 54th Street (highly recomended BTW) and I waited back stage with about 5 other people for about an hour and finally John Prine came out. He was great! During the show he kept talking about his babies and his wife who was back at home and how this was the last show of the tour and how he was going on home after the show. Man he was excited about that! I found him more delicate than he appears to be, and a genuinely kind man to sign the autographs and have a word with us all. So that is my John Prine story. If it had not been for John PRine coming to town I would have missed meeting both him and PRez Clinton so all in all it was a very good time, the show was wonderful, the music was great, John and his band did a good job, and right now, the night before halloween, this all fools night, I am studying for my midterm. Oh I am also friends with the band called Animal Liberation Orchestra, who plays with Jack Johnson ( they are my unoffical children ) and I was at their house today as they prepare for their Santa Barbara Show tomarrow night at the Soho, and I showed them the video of me getting John Prines Autograph and they were duely Impressed. So that is my John Prine story and I hope he comes back this way again soon. Good Job John, and thanks for providing this format. The things I do to keep from hitting those old history books!

Lets see, It was a dark and stormy night...Oh wait that was last halloween, Lets start again.
. I saw John Prine this Saturday past, October 28, 2006 at the beautiful Arlington Theater in Downtown Santa Barbara.
Mark Wall, Des Moines, Ia.
John, I've never written a fan letter before, but here goes. I wasn't back from the war a year, so it must have been Dec. or Jan. "70-71". I found myself an art student at Mankato State. Stroling down the isle at the library, my two friends ,very excitedly, told me I must hear the singer down stairs. We make our way. The situation was common, you were sitting in a small room on a chair with about 7 or 8 listeners. We had the opportunity to hear about 20 minutes. Something you don't forget.
We told you how much we like your stuff, chatted for awhile, I believe we even invited you to a beer party but you declined, saying you had some where to go. Didn't think much more of it.
Around 1974 I found myself a Ironworker, drinking beer at a friends house, 16th Ave. Cedar Rapids. turns out "Fast Eddie" was a fan and he put a record on, I was excited telling Ed I had meet you. Also being pleasently surprised you had LP's out which were imediatly purchased.
Advance forward. "89". "Fast Eddie" was going a little to fast in his Camaro and lost his head. His wife played "Ilegal Smile" at his funeral. Funny how music can instantly put you back to a time and place.
Time goes on, 2004 in Des Moines, My bother-in-law, knowing I'm a fan, tells me he is going to cater your group at the Civic Center. Would I like tickets, would I like to go back stage ?
I was hoping to tell you how I've enjoyed all those years of listening. I didn't see you but I did eyeball your guitar player and I must say you certainly did increase your fan base, and fill a bigger room.
The last time, Hoyt Sherman Place a few months ago. Things do get better with age.
I find myself a project engineer, we build buildings for a high profile grocery chain based here in Des Miones.
I don't know if you will ever read this, I've never asked for anything, but here goes, would you consider signing one of my LP covers. If so I'm the only Mark D. Wall in Des Moines.
Thanks again.

My freind Cera met you in Ireland. It was a open sing in a pub. She gave you her cd and said really nice things about you. I caught you're show in Spokane last time you were through Washington. We have quite a acoustic scene here in Oly, both writers and players, and many would love to have you come here and play. If there is anyway I could help facilitate this please contact me at blueheronbakery, com. Our 30th year of wholegrain natural baking is 2007, want to help us celebrate? Skippy

Hey John.. I just wanted to let you know that my Dad loved you. He recently died in a car accident, December 6th 2005. He used to play me your songs when I was young, and i'd sing and dance to them. I'm only 16, and just inherited all my Dad's old cds and he had everyone of yours. He lived on his guitar, just like you. I think he'd be happy to know that your music has passed on to me, and I now love it. Thanks John. - Taylor.

Been listening to John for about thirty years or more. Albums on turn tables, cassettes in the car, now the CD's! Got to see him for the first time last year at the Palace Theater in Albany. Hope he'll be back this way soon.

Hi John,
I was at your concert at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton on Saturday September 24, 2006. Once again, time stood still for me and I was entertained beyond words. I've been listening to your music for many years now and have seen you play live three times. Thank you John, for sharing your gift of song. Your music inspires me. It has seen me through alot of good times, bad times, trials and tribulations and I know it always will. Whatever this big ol' goofy world throws at me, your music will see me through. Maybe the next time you'll tell the story of Jesus and his missing years. I know I'll be there when you come to Edmonton again and it doesn't matter what songs you sing because they're all my favorites. Maybe one day I'll be blessed enough to meet you.

Dear John,
Some of my best times have been set to your tunes - quality time with my Dad, dancing with my honey in a seaside cabin while watching the sun set over the frozen sea and mountains, rolling down the highway with good friends - the list goes on and on. My Dad and I are planning a road trip down in the direction of Nevada this January, and would be absolutely thrilled if we could catch a concert of yours somewhere on our travels. It would mean the world to us, as my Dad has just been diagnosed with severe lung cancer - we have always dreamt of seeing you in concert together, but life takes its turns and now we have to make it happen!
All the best, Julian

I heard my first Prine tune, from a couple of guys picking guitar around a campfire, both harmonizing to Paradise! Loved it, asked who sang it and then it began - John who? 3 Years later I started dating a guy who knew just about every song John Prine had ever written. Small world? No, this incredible singer/songwriter has touched lives all over the map.
Finally 13 years later, we have a chance to see John Prine Live in Ottawa, Ontario. Sept 12, 2006 -- what a night. People from all walks of life - suits, sandles, shorts, jeans and ponytails. Real People. When the show began -- John sang strong and clear, and so did the entire audience. One huge sing-a-long. Normally you would be upset, because you came to hear the best -- but that's what we did hear. The best lyrics, the best melodies, coming from the best group of people (followers of John Prine) After two hours we realized we had time against us -- and there were still so many more songs we wanted to hear, so the crowd started shouting song titles. John Prine chuckled and said -- Yeah, I know the guy that wrote those songs. Finally one voice shouted out -- "John, You're the Best, Play them all -- We'll stay all night!"
It's hard to have one favourite -- because everything he sings is so unique and touches everyone in special ways, but it's was a grand finale to a wonderful evening when he finished the night playing Paradise. If I never see another concert , it's okay because I have now heard and seen the Best. And for those that say - John Who? You haven't lived.
Corey
Hi John,
Just wondering if you will be making an appearance at RedRocks this year? My mom and I would love to see you. Thanks Corey

I am basically the same age as John .... actually a few
years older.
I also play music. I have heard of John Prine since his first
recordings, but was never really a fan (I just didn't take the time). I now
own everything (to my knowledge) that he has released.
I saw him perform live not long ago at the Omaha Music Hall, with Iris
DeMent. I've seen Elvis, and I've seen most of the other mainstream
artists from the past 40 years perform live .... and John's performance
..... all things considered ....was absolutely excellent ..... as good
as anyone could do and far better than most. Iris did about 50 minutes
(she was fantastic)... then John and his two sidemen came on and did at
least 2 hours (Iris came back out and did a few duets). The audience
of about 1,000 people, ages from early 20's to late 70's, went nuts the
whole night. John Prine, thank you!

No matter how far around the world one goes, you're never too far away from JP and his music. My wife and I recently returned from a two week extravaganza in the UK. One day after riding in a train for 12 hours, we were so happy to arrive in Ireland and find a cozy spot for some food and a Guiness. Anyway, wouldn't you know that there were four older gents pickin' at a local pub. They palyed a variety of traditional Irish music, and then all of a sudden out comes "Sam Stone". We were blown away. They weren't even sure who JP was, but they knew his music, and we let them know who he is! It was so nice being so far away, but feeling so close to home and family because of one song. Mr. Prine, I hope you know that hearing just one of your songs made my entire day, hell it made my week!

Hello everyone! I just happened to come across this website by accident, and I'm glad that I did. I'm 22 years old and I grew up on John Prine music! My dad is a huge fan and even took me and my younger brother to a concert in Minneapolis, MN when we were younger, probably 10 or 12 years old. Anyways...I love your music!! I recently got married, in June and my dad decided not to come for his own selfish reasons. You see, my dad plays guitar and he was able to play almost all of your songs, and I always sang them! I had so much fun singing those songs with him. I guess I just wanted to say thank you! Because even though him and I don't really have a very good relationship right now, I will always remember how much fun I had when I sang your songs with him. And we will always have those times together!

I am also from Prince Edward Island and I wasn't sure if I could get off the week-end to see the concert so I waited to buy my tickets. I should have known John would sell out in Halifax so I guess I don't get to see him this year. I wish he would play at the Confederation Centre over hear sometime. The sound would be fantastic. But I guess he wouldn't play in such a small hall. I wish we had a bigger concert hall over here to attract singers like John Prine so we didn't have to make the expensive trip to halifax or Moncton to see the bigger stars play. We have some bigger halls here but the sound is crappy.

20 of us are boarding the ferry from Prince Edward Island to head to Halifax to see Mr.John Prine. We are all staying at my Sister's 3 bedroom bungalow that night. Who's going to have anymore fun that us!?! We will be the loud but respectful ones there. Can't wait!!!!
Bryan Maloney - Indianapolis
Current events in Indianapolis show us that John Prine is no relic. A children's park has been torn down in order to provide parking for a tavern--a tavern built in the local federal office building--to be run/owned by a well-connected crony (named Carl Drummer) of Indianapolis's primary member of the US House of Representatives (Ms. Julia Carson). This tavern has been built without even going through the formality of getting a building permit or a liquor license. After I heard of that little shenanigan, "Paradise" just keeps going through my head. Only this time, it's "Ms. Julia's cronies" who have hauled paradise away.
You know what the real kicker is for all of this? Guess what political party involved? Who has decided to steal a park from children in a, shall we say, not-exactly-wealthy neighborhood? Who felt no compunction at all in taking away a public space from kids whose parents don't drive Volvos and Lexuses? DEMOCRATS! That's right, a well-connected Democrat is in charge of it, he got a "fast track" lease from the Parks department in our fair city, which has a Democrat mayor and a Democrat majority council.
And "Paradise" just keeps going through my head.

My days enjoying John Prine go back to the Earle of Old Town with his buddy - gone but never forgotten Steve Goodman. When I purchased the CD Fair and Square, after so many years in the making, I have never taken it out of the 'handy' CD area in my car and not a week goes by that it doesn't make its way into the player. Everytime I put it in and listen to the songs, it is as if he was in the back seat telling me a story - what a incredible poet, artist, and overall inspiration to so many, including myself, over the many, many years of listening to his tunes! John, you are like a fine wine - you just keep getting better and better!
Nehkeya Tennessee
John Prine was something that my father and I both enjoyed something we could talk about or not. Sometimes we would just sit in a room with the radio on, and our minds rolled down. We were able to relate to one another through his music. My dad, John and myself will always be sittin' in the back of my memory.
Robbin- Heber Springs, AR
I like John prine songs but, my mother is his biggest fan. She has never seen him in concert...they are all too far away from home. I am writing in hopes that I can someday take her to a concert, or even better meet him in person! If anyone knows when he may be in Arkansas i would love the info. She likes to spend time in Mt. View & i have heard he sometimes goes there. She loves to sing & play his songs, she's even teaching her grandkids lots of them! Now i guess i'll get to the sob story... Mom was DX with cancer last year. (Multiple Myeloma) she has been going through chemo & stem cell transplants, and everything you can think of. She has been the greatest! She has never complained! And it has paid off, she is now in remission! Although she will always have to get chemo to stay there, until there's a CURE!! anyway the toughest part is over and I think she deserves a reward. Her biggest dream is to meet him, (as she say's... "Belly-up to a bar"!!) I think john's songs have helped her get through some of these tough times... So Mr. Prine if you're reading this -thank you. She says she knows someone that has a cabin near you in Mt. View. If you are ever there ask about Sherry from Heber. She'd do anything to meet you. If not, just know that your music has inspired a wonderful, funny , tough, all-round good person! "That's the Way The World Goes Round"

Awhile ago, I was reflecting on life, thinking about how we all make choices to go here, or go there; or to do this, or do that; or to talk to this person, or talk to that person; and how these choices of course influence our lives....it got me thinking to back in the late seventies, I was working outside of Vancouver, Canada, and I was renting an apartment one summer, just up from the beautiful beach at a small community named White Rock. After work I would take my guitar and a couple of cold beer down to the beach and play some songs and watch the sun go down....I had just come across the music of John Prine, and I was learning all his great songs...one evening I was singing and playing, and I happened to look over, and there was a beautiful girl in a black bikini, singing along to the words of the John Prine song I was playing.....perhaps this was the woman of my dreams!!!! I was going to walk over and meet her, and I don't know what happened....but I chickened out, which was very unlike me!!! And in awhile she left, and I was alone, singing my John Prine songs....and looking back, who knows what could have happened if I hadn't chickened out.......so, I wrote a song called "Don't Chicken Out", and I kind of think that maybe John Prine might even like it.........and I'd also wanted to use the phrase "Carpe Diem" in a song, so this was also my chance....it goes like this...... It was a warm summer evening down at the beach A 6 pack of Miller was just within reach The sunlight was dancing out there on the sea As I played my guitar and I sang just for me I was singing the songs that I knew by John Prine Back then I was singing John Prine all the time He could paint pictures in my head with his songs His lyrics told stories that went on and on And off to my left over there in the sand In her black bikini and her golden tan A brunette was reclining, with no wedding ring And her lips were moving to each song that I'd sing Thought I could walk on over with this opening line "How long have you been a fan of John Prine?" And "How many of his songs do you really know?" And you never know just where this might go... Ch: But I chickened out, yes I chickened out Too many fears, too many doubts I should have taken a different route But I chickened out, yes I chickened out And then in awhile, she left and was gone And I was alone, with my John Prine songs I was there on the beach, but she'd disappeared So I sang one more song, and I drank one more beer But things like this happen as our lives roll on So go for the gusto, before it is gone Don't let magic moments like this slip away, You know, "Carpe Diem" means "Sieze the Day" Ch: So don't chicken out, no don't chicken out Throw away all your fears, throw away all your doubts Don't be afraid to take the hard route So don't chicken out, no don't chicken out And some day you'll be glad you did not chicken out And to this day I wonder.... what would have happened if I hadn't chickened out??????

I was introduced to John Prine by my cousins in the early 70's. The first song I heard "Sam Stone" a John Prine classic, their are so many classics. I was immediately taken by his honest emotions and story telling of the common man and human condition. His melodies and sometimes off the wall lyrics contrast beutifully and tell the story, whether it's funny, tragic or romantic. I got married very late in life and I used one of his cover songs (I Love You So Much) at my wedding reception for a first dance with my wife. Not your typical wedding song. I loved the melancholy and yet lively piano arrangement and John's gravel voice. It spoke to how I still feel about my wife. John and I are both Libras born in October. John is 10 years older than me. This year I'm 50, he is 60 and may he keep on making music and I will be enjoying it.

I first head John Prine in the early 70's,since then his music has always been with me. I introduced my wife to his music in 78. We saw John Prine in concert in 82, Steve Goodman was there too. WE played and sang his songs as our 3 girls were growing up. A coupe of years ago we were able to see John again, this time with or 3 grown daughters. John If you read this I have to tell you, that you made my girls cry. All the memories of the good times we had together singing your songs came flooding back. So thanks John for making our girls cry. That's what you mean to us. Stan.

JJ -Right down the road in FL I was painting houses with my friend Gary Penny
(mandolin player) in Dallas when I first heard "illegal smile". I was 20. I had first been learning Eagles and what not on my acoustic but when I heard "illegal smile" it was like some one lit a fuse in me. I was inspired beyond
belief, and still am. I couldn't get enough Prine. It's still mind boggling to me when I hear or play a Prine song that I nearly have to snap myself out of a trance when it's over. It's incredible how Johns songs in 3 minutes can paint a picture that tells a life story. I haven't missed a show since I moved to Florida 14 Years ago..welcome to the neighborhood hope to shake your hand and share a story or two someday over an ice cold beer.

Suzi Jacobs Fabian saw Prine 5-13-06 in Milwaukee because of sweet surprise from my husband, John. I have died and gone to heaven. My first-born son and I uniquely bonded by Prine lyrics... Matt has my first husband's "illegal smile". Both of them worried/worry about every set of "ancient eyes". My second husband, whose has "gold inside of him" and I have made Prine's rhymes our staples. Prine's pure genius writes words about the "glory of love that won't go out of fashion and will always look good on you." Oooooh... Through thick and thin, good times and shitty... noboby has spun a web around an anonymous heart faster than JP. Prine's wit and charm are absolutely timeless... about things
political, social and personal - no matter how mundane or seemingly inexplicable. Where else does a girl see grown men shed tears in public? At John Prine's feet, that's where! John Prine paints a scene better than anyone I wish I knew.
Kate-Virginia Beach,
VA My husband and I have been enjoying John Prine for 30 years. I used to play Blue Umbrella over and over. We were very fortunate to have great seats at John's recent concert (4/29/06) at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk, Va. What a concert! John had his lead guitarist Jason open and he was fantastic. John came on stage at 9 p.m. and played until 11:30. He played with incredible vigor and was so engaged with the audience. Midway through he took off his jacket and the audience went crazy with the realization he was comfortable and in no hurry to leave. We all started singing along to Illegal Smile which seemed to tickle him. Several folks were screaming out for their favorites to which John calmly replied, "I know 'em all". He got so "into" playing his guitar on Lake Marie that two
strings snapped. I thought he was going to bore a hole in the floor with his gyrating left leg. I have been to many, many concerts with
Dave Matthews, Stevie Nicks, Dylan and Pearl Jam among my favorites. But I can honestly say, without a doubt, this Prine concert was my very favorite. This is my third Prine concert so I love this man. It was such an enchanting evening and John seemed to be enjoying himself immensely. I can hardly wait to see him again.

I just got back from my weekend getaway. My husband and I left Massapequa Park Long Island NY for Roanoke VA to see our favorite artist John Prine. My husband Jeff has always been a fan, his Dad turned him on to John Prine. Now I am a huge fan also. This was only the 2nd
time we saw him live. The 1st was in NYC 2005. I have to tell you.....Roanoke VA blew away NYC each and every moment. My whole weekend was fantastic. Thanks for giving me a fantastic weekend! Keep the songs coming!!
Heather ~ Simpsonville, SC We got to meet John after the concert April 8, 2005 and April 8, 2006.
He's such a sweet man. When John came into the room where we were he walked right over to my son and shook his hand. We were able to get his autograph on his Grammy winning CD and have our pictures taken with him and also with Jason. It's been a dream come true to get to shake his hand and hug him. Just can't seem to say enough good things about John. After being fans for many years it's like he's a part of our family.
Maggie Suckow-Boone, IA South Minneapolis, 1973, I was a Minnesota living on the streets hippie. A kind friend of mine had let me stay the weekend at his apartment and played John’s album for me after remarking, “Well I know you don’t like anything, but I think that this guy you’ll understand.” So from the first three notes of the first cut on that album I was a fan. I thought, “finally, finally someone understands!” I taped that album. At that time I didn’t own much “techy” recording equipment. It didn’t exist as it does today. So I recorded John’s entire album on an old scratchy-tape, battery operated, portable cassette player, back ground noise which includes a conversation about “did your cat eat the smoke”, etc. I still have that tape And I discovered, not long ago, that it still plays! Now, I have a Government job, a house, 5 grandkids and a lot electronic equipment that only my grandkids know how to operate. And I still have John Prine! Your music, John, has a lyrical poetry and that fantastic down home country sound that reminds me of Roy Acuff. (My Dad used to make us stand up when a Roy Acuff tune was played!) John Prine’s music was a mainstay though a couple of “interesting” marriages and a hard “becoming sober” process. I am ever grateful for such an artist as John Prine. I hope to sometime have the opportunity shake his hand and say Thank you, Mr. Prine, you could never know how many times you saved my life. I am forever in your debt.
Lori Batterman - Oregon My husband is a long time fan and he introduced me to your

My fiancé and I fell in love with the song "In Spite of
Ourselves". We call it our song! I always said I was never going to get
married so I was a little nervous... but then I saw that John Prine is
playing a concert on our wedding day 4/22/06 in Roanoke, VA. That is
not far from where we live back in the sticks of Monterey, VA. We would
like to be there but we'll be a little preoccupied that day haha!
Hopefully its a good omen for us though. Good luck with that show!!!

played everything we knew, one of the guys said, "Have you heard this
one? - My brother has start listing to this American guy called
John Prine." Well he started to play 'Hello In There' and within the first
few chords I was hooked. My then girlfriend - now my wife we immigrated to Canada in 1981 with our two year old son Bobby. As years passed
by I played 'Hello In There' so many times - never having much time
to follow up on Prine. It was like a haunting mission to one day catch up with his music again. Well I finally did. My kids, as we had a daughter in 1984, grew up listing to me play John's music - I call it my missing years. He has been a great joy through my life and now ironically he resides in Galway in the summers. I sure would love to meet him some day.
Tom Fitsell - Daytona Beach The first time I ever heard a John Prine song was when my buddy Billy came to school in Toronto back in 1968 singing, "Grandpa was a carpenter". The melody and lyric was so infectious I memorized it and sang along. It's hard to believe that was 39 years ago and I'm still singin it. I never get tired of singing and playing along to the songs. They are truly a part of me. I often use lines from the songs in
conversation without even knowing I'm doing it. I especially like, " There's a half and inch of water and you think you're gonna drown... That's the way the world goes round."
Thanks John!!! You are a very dear friend of mine. Tom

ALMOST EVERY PRINE SONG I'VE HEARD SINCE THE EARLY 80'S (WHEN I WAS TURNED ON TO THE MASTER SINGER SONGWRITER) MAKES ME FELL LIKE SOMEONE ELSE IN LIFE HAS
EXPERIENCED WHAT I HAVE: EXAMPLE--IN CHRISTMAS IN PRISON HOW HE SINGS THE "THE SPOTLIGHT IN THE BIG YARD SWING 'ROUND WITH THE GUN AND
SPOTLIGHTS THE DUST IN THE SUN" HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED IF ANYONE ELSE JUST SITS AND CONTEMPLATES AND THINKS TO GET INSPIRATION...OBVIOUSLY SOME ELSE DOES THIS IS JUST ONE REASON I AM SO
MYSTIFIED HIS SONGWRITING ABILITY....KEEP UP THE MASTERY OF WORK...WE LOVE YOU JOHNNY
Tad -- Marin & Sonoma Counties -- California Hi. I've been wanting to express my appreciation (OK, Love, damn it) for Mr. Prine for close on to 30 years. NO ONE...artist, mentor, friend, lover, probation officer, etc, has had a more profound influence on my life. I often exaggerate, but I'm not now. Although I certainly am always
moved, inspired and when necessary sedated by John's music, his performance of Steve Goodman's "My Old Man" on the Tribute album can make me shed many Manly Tears on demand...no matter the circumstances. I have never been able to play it myself without breaking up. Not ashamed to admit it. Proud to admit it in fact. It's not just the song. It's the reflection of the Friendship between the two of them that does it. I've never had that kind of friendship, but I can steal some of the feeling when I hear that song.
Thanks for the years when I could imagine you as my friend...and you have been even though you don't know me. Your Blood's In My Stream.

Well, I was introduced to Mr. John Prine's music about 9 or 10 years ago, and have been a big fan of his ever since...I just wish I could find out when he will (if ever, hopefully) be playing any concerts in the state of KY? I mean, I would travel a lot farther, but being able to see him in concert, in my home state of KY, would be the most awesome experience! I have never seen him live, and would love to go to a concert of his, someday...Please come to KY, Mr. Prine :D
Jim & Doris - MN
A few years ago my wife and I were going to see John in
concert in Apple Valley, Minnesota, we were on our Harley when our tickets
flew out of my pocket. We stopped to have dinner on the way when I
realized the tickets were gone. So we backtracked to find them, no luck. We decided to go to the concert and explain our situation. As I started to
tell them our sob story the women at the ticket counter asked if we
were on a Harley, I said yes, she told us someone behind us saw the
tickets blow out of my pocket, but couldn't get our attention so they picked
them up off the road and brought them to the ticket counter. Its a big
old goofy world!!!

I was put in front of the Stereo speaker the day my parents brought me home from the hospital, so I guess I have been a fan since before I can remember, My Dad was the biggest JP fan that we had family traditions of listening to JP for every holiday and every BBQ or family get together, I was lucky to see him at the
Fillmore with my Mom & Dad before my Dad passed away but we also got to send them on
their 40 wedding anniversary to see him at the Fillmore again. For both my brothers and my Dads funerals we played Angel from Montgomery. when I was six every time I'd walk in the room the adults would say little pictures have big ears and I never really knew what the heck they were talking about till I grew up. So now I will carry on the traditions in my family and hopefully pass it down to my kids to listen to JP as often as they can and especially on the Holidays. That would make
their Grandpa proud !! John ,my Dad was always so happy when he was listening to you!!! Thanks for all the Childhood memories I'll never forget and I hope that someday I will get to meet you and tell you what you mean to our family!! I seen you here in SLC and I think I cried ( Happy Tears) all night, We brought my 21 year old niece who ( when she was 2 knew how to sing Angel from Montgomery and my Mom and sister and the whole crowd (we were all crying HAPPY TEARS), the guy behind said to my husband ( I see you brought the emotional crowd!! must be long time
fans.) OK I better stop because I could go on and on. We Love Ya John !!!!

I grew up in a mining town in Northern Ontario. In my teens the only thing on TV other than hockey was "The Ian Tyson Show". A legend in his own right, Tyson also had the most amazing guests on his show. One night he had this nervous, shifty-looking little guy on his show. He sang the "Late John Garfield Blues". I was
riveted. I didn't know how, or why, but I knew that this guy and his music would be woven into the fabric of my life. A year or so later I went south to university. I drew the night shift at the campus radio station. And didn't the Atlantic Records rep drop by with a copy of "Diamonds in the Rough".
I wasted no time in previewing "Late John Garfield Blues". To my
amazement, I had remembered every lyric, every chord, every nuance--as if I'd heard the song a thousand times over. That song and that performance had lived in my head all that time. It still does. Thank you, John. And congratulations on Grammy # 2.

2/10/06: Not really a story, just CONGRATULATIONS JOHN on your Grammy!!! You deserve it fair and square! Also wanted to let you know in case you noticed two empty presale seats in Evansville that those were mine; and believe me I wanted to be there, but my husband was recovering from his second cancer surgery in four months. Hopefully we'll catch you the next time around--any thoughts about coming back to the Virginia in Champaign? Thanks for the music (and thanks Reeda for all you do too)!

I have always loved the song “Angel from Montgomery”. Never knew that a guy named John Prine wrote until a few years ago. 2003 I met Patrick and he turned my on to John Prine. No looking back now! For the past two years John has been in concert close to home and I have received tickets to the concerts as my birthday gifts from Patrick. In Oct 2004 I got to see John in Paducah, KY, this past October I got to see him in Memphis (second row Baby!) Just a couple weeks ago I got to see John in St. Louis. Great Concert…as ALWAYS! I’m looking forward to seeing John again in March at Carbondale, IL. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!! THANKS FOR THE GREAT TIMES!!!!

I heard my first John Prine song many years ago in a yurt --
honestly! that my wife and I had snowshoed into -- in the Colorado
Rockies. Sippin' a bourbon and looking across at the snow-covered peaks
just added to the magic. Finally, after all these years my wife and I will
get to see John live at the Peace Center in Greenville, South Carolina,
on April 8, 2006. Row G. Right down front! John, you are our favorite
singer!

I am 27 and from a small town in PA. and grew up listening to John and Steve Goodman. My father is the one who turned me on to them by playing their music on guitiar and the tape player of his old international scout. The truth of their music and the true heart felt emotion caught me. My father passed away in 98 of cancer. But the music stuck with me. Listening to John and Steve brings back the memories of dad and his attitude about life. The times when we would go to our cabin and he and my uncles would sit around and pick together." My old Man" was a great fan and I am proud to say that thanks to him I am also. Love ya dad!

First, THANK YOU, for this site! I just turned 50 and have loved John since his first album. It makes me so happy that he is getting the richly deserved attention and praises these days; of course, we who have worshipped at THE CHURCH OF PRINE since the get-go never forgot him...he's in the blood. I saw him "up close and personal" in the early '80s at an oceanfront club, "Peabodys." I somehow - divine intervention? - found a seat about 4 feet away from THE MAN, himself and caught his eye a few times. I wish I'd had the nerve to ,,, well, I was married :) It is one of my sweetest memories. There really are no words to tell him just how many days one of his songs has gotten me through, made me laugh or cry.
THANK YOU, JOHN ! Peace, love & happiness to all of you. ~ Sherry

I remarried in 1990, my husband (then a questionable
boyfriend) played his guitar and sang "A Good Time" to me. I think it was that song that made me fall in love with him. I was not enlightened with the wisdom that comes with being a John Prine fan . . . I actually thought he wrote it for me!!! Despite my misunderstanding of his musical
intentions, we are happily married with 5 children . . 3 sons 13, 12 and 8, and a set of twin daughters 9. Yep, thats 5 in 5 years, (3 in one Year). Needless to say if you look up "nervous breakdown" in the
dictionary my face is depicted. The music and lyrics of John Prine have played a very important part in my daily routine. I can identify with them all. At risk of sounding like a stalker . . . I feel a special connection to John. MY daughters figure skate and I'm trying to get some "Prine Tunes" as part of their short program. If John reads this, tell him he has a 47 year old mother of 5 that finds him fascinating . . . (or maybe I should be angry because he got me into this mess!!

Hello in there o. I first heard John in english class. My grade 11/12 english
teacher was a big fan . We had to pick a song and write as essay or do some kind of prensentation on what we thought it meant. (That was back,
way back, in 1974) I got my one and only "A" in high school with that presentation. Ive been singing JPs songs ever since then. A dozen or so years later my new next door neighbor came over one evening with his guitar and after a couple of brews we were both wailin away about Happy Enchiladas. Its been a great ride, but I'd have to say that John is the one
that made it all bearable. Ive just recently bought my first guitar and am trying to teach myself to play. Cant get my mouth and fingers to get along.
Oh well, Its still fun. Thanks John, hope to see you someday.

I just wanted to write & let you know that when my husband
passed away 5 yrs ago at the age of 37 very unexpectantly. My sister
insisted that I play a CD before the funeral - she kept pestering me.
Finally the a.m. of the funeral I haven't listened & she calls & asks me to. I
listened to it with my husband's uncle & it was "Please Don't Bury Me".
Well, we knew we had to play it at the funeral! We played it during the
service, people were laughing then crying - it fit my husband & our friends.
I never had heard of John Prine (sorry) but several of his friends
commented on hearing John Prine there! So just in case this is a first - we used this as the theme of a great guy's funeral!

Big fan here for many years going right
back to Sam and dear Abby but I'm worried at present how long it will be before John Prine is picked up by the European police force for breaking the laws of Europe.
You see in the fantastic new Album Fair and square John refers to Chablis as sweet in the song Long Monday. This is not
acceptable under EU law where the wine is bone dry. Under very strict laws Chablis is a dry Chardonnay made from the vineyards around the ancient little sleepy village of Chablis, the most northern part of Burgundy. Only in the states is the wine often copied but never
equaled it is referred, on occasion, to as sweet but this is OK as the US does not have to answer to EU laws.
We do however and while attending Johns recent concert in Dublin I was looking to see if the police were going to crash the party and carry the great balladeer off on cuffs for such a breach of European law.
John seems to have gotten away with it this time but he'll have to release a
European version either with the wine dry or not called Chablis and ignore the Rhyme!
Your in quandry

I've been a fan since the late '70s. I'm a musician that recently moved to Statesboro, Ga and I played a Prine tribute set at a local live music event. Then I found out JP would be within driving distance for a show (Jacksonville, FL 12/14/05). It was the 1st time I'd seen him live. I wrote a review on this site.
I don't generally believe that there is a "best" artist in a particular field, 'cause after a certain level of talent is established, it's just a matter of listener taste. JP holds the distinct personal honor of being the exception to that rule. There is a tie for best songwriter - Rich Mullins (dec.) & John Prine. I try to turn people on everywhere to John Prine because he adds a unique richness to the human experience.

I would love to have backstage passes for the Evansville show for my wife and myself. I've been backstage once, but didn't have a camera on me. I'd love to get a picture. It would make a great Christmas present. If you can help out, e-mail me at lostdogs@mail.com. Thanks.
