It's going to take awhile to come down from this one. This was possibly by far the utmost ultimate John Prine concert I had ever been to. And those of you who were lucky enough to attend both shows that weekend, well you got your Prine fill! He played 'em all... and he told us darn near every detail about the lyrics and songs.
It was unreal.
So unreal that there were cameras shooting from every angle. The lighting was up, unlike most concerts when it is pitch black... It made it almost romantic. Since the show was at a high school, there was no alcohol served, instead, some nice ice cold water. The whole setting was quite different than the usual John Prine concert.

There was hardly anyone shouting out songs... except for one really loud gutteral voice that early on kept trying to have a conversation with John, he would yell after or right before the songs.... Finally John looked up and said "Yeah, I'll catch your show later" That seemed to do it... shut him up and the rest of us were back to thinking How Lucky can one man get mode.
He told a story for every song, sometimes he told a couple of stories for a song. It was so intimate - really like having him all to yourself, answering all your questions as to the inspirations to these songs. He paid attention to every detail, he sang his very best, he had us eating out of the palm of his hand. |
Those who weren't able to make any show are in luck - A DVD Documentary on our John Prine is being put together and is being planned to be out sometime some year.
Director comes out and checks our audience reactions...
