Hi. I have been listening to your music for as long as I can remember. My father died when I was eight and one of my favorite memories was him laughing, listening to ' Please Don't Burry Me.' He had a great sense of humor. Odd, but great. Anyway just wanted to say thanks for the years of great storytelling songs!
Paul Grainger, Hartlepool, England
Hello John, I've been a fan a good few years now first saw you on UK Channel 4 Session program recorded at The Point in Dublin... I was hooked. Went to see you at Cambridge Folk Festival a number of years ago and saw you again at Newcastle City Hall a couple of years ago. Both brilliant shows. It was after the Cambridge show that l made the effort to record some songs and a couple of them are on my myspace. http://www.myspace.com/5pecial Big Brother Gary plays lead & bass.

Jack Long - Idaho
Hi John: I heard you for the first time on PBS (Austin City Limits) broadcast in Boise, Id. in May of this year. Didn't know I was missing some fine guitar. Your pic roll on one song really caught my interest, but I can't remember the song. I really enjoyed your music. About cancer. i had neck cancer and it changed my voice as well. Now I'm a daddy who can sing base. I would like to correspond on some of your technique. Let me know if that's possible and when (if) you will be putting on a show in Southern, Idaho. -ojo-

My boyfiend is a huge fan of yours and I would really like to take him to see you. Since we have met he has also made me a fan of you as well. I love your music. My favorite one is lets talk dirty in Hawaiian. I think he just about has all your CD's on his computer so he can listen you you all day. We recently purchased satellite radio and sad to say that his favorite station that he used to listen to you on is no longer there. Thank you,

NOEL - Iowa
I saw your Austin City Limits show late one night. I was captivated. I had heard of your music before but never really listened. I had to go out the next day and buy some cd's. I bought "Fair and Square" and "Standard songs for Average People." I just haven't been able to stop listening to "Fair and Square" You said on city limits that your voice dropped after a operation. Man...it gave it that timeless journeyman quality. It makes me feel the miles you have traveled in your voice. What great songs, what great music. Best music I have heard in a long long time! Keep doing what you do! Hope you swing through Iowa sometime so I can catch a show!
Eugene - Birch River, WV

Rebecca Lampman Kemmerer, Wyoming
Dear John, I grew up listening to your music. My dad played it on many a cold snowy nights in Wyoming. We lived in a trailer park during the oil boom years in Kemmerer. We didn't have a TV, so we listened to your music instead. My dad was the local junk man. He worked for the landfill for 20 years, and he knew everyone in town. He was always trying to match up a treasure with someone who needed it. He was a big norwegian with smiling eyes, and a white beard. All he ever wore was blue chambray shirts and old overalls. He was a rockhound. In the summertime, we would ride in the desert in his 1965 tourquoise GMC pickup looking for rocks(which still sits in front of my parents little pink trailer house. He drove it up until just a couple years ago). I sat on the tailgate. He was my rock. When my mom first married him, we were going through some of his stuff and he gave me a prized possession from his childhood. An old whiskey bottle that had a ballerina music box inside of it. He had thrown a fit until his parents would buy it. I guess they must have drank the whiskey, then let him have the music box. Before bedtime my dad and I would always say the same thing; Good night, Sleep Tight, Sweet Dreams, See You in the Morning, I love You. One month ago, I lost my dad following heart surgery. I was lucky enough to be able to be there when he died, and that was the last thing I said to him. Ever since he left, I have been playing your music and it is extremely comforting. I especially love Please Don't Bury Me. I can't have my dad with me anymore, but at least I have his favorite music. Thanks for making this awful time just a little bit better. You are the most talented songwriter/poet/singer I have ever heard. Take care.
Dan Waters, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

I got to see you in Seattle when you were there with Nanci. Just wanted you to know that your music has been the place I go in good times and bad, or when I need some brain food. Thank you for the music.....

John - Caught your show at the Mann last night. Everybody sounded great. My how those boys have grown. Thanks for coming. I am the guy that hung around a Des Moines show 2/3 years ago and presented you an old Steve Goodman/John Prine ticket stub from the DSM Civic Center back in 1981. Wanted to say hi.Tried to stick around last night but security ran me off. Starting life over out here in Pa. I feel alone much of the time, but last night was very pleasurable. Kinda like slipping into that favorite pair of jeans again. Thanks again. You take care. Travel safely. In 1991 John played Penns Landing[Philly]. My wife and I brought our daughters Lyndsay and Ashley, who were 12 and 5yrs. old. They were as in love with John as we were.My wife, with the 5yr.old on her shoulders were up front singing and dancing.I staked out a good spot for myself and Lyndsay . Lyndsay has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair. As we were leaving[we waited for the crowd to clear] a man approached us and askek if we would like to meet John. He took us to his trailer. Ashley and I went inside and met John who spoke with us for about ten minutes, signed our programs and took photos with us. I asked John if he could come outside and meet my wife and Lyndsay. Of course he said yes. He immediately went to Lyndsay gave her a kiss and put his arm around her and we took more photos. A nicer man you could never meet. Thank you John for this treasured memory.

Ashley - Louisville
My name is Ashley and I am 20 years old. I just wanted to thank you for the great music that you have put out in your life time. I am not sure if you remember me but I came to Lake Malone on my 19th birthday and you signed my leather jacket. The first song that I ever heard of yours was Paradise. I didn't know much about you I just knew the song and loved it. I then met a guy in school and he introduced me to the rest of your music. I have 10 LP's of yours and hope to have them all. Well once again THANK YOU very much for your music.

Jason (A lonesome fan with nothing to do) - Belleville, IL
When is the great John Prine ever going to make his way over near the St. Louis area? I'm from the Illinois side, and I am bored with the lazy minds of the future. I need a good show with little to do and a feeling of yesterday. I've got two kids and a wife who cares, but I need a little bit more. I like my beer and my cigarettes, but I need my tunes and peace of heart, and I just don't know what to do. I need John Prine and his thoughts a little like mine. Won't you bring some grace, I'm a little displaced, for I'm only 23. I can't find relief through my disbelief, and I hate my commercialized stations. I'm a poor damn dude, and I work a lot, so I can't travel 9,000 miles. When's this guy with a mind a little like mine gonna make it to my home lair?
Margaret - St Louis, MO

I love watching the JP video's on u-tube, because for a little while I get my brother back. My older brother John hooked me and my younger brother up to JP in the late 70's. I saw JP in 1987 with my brother John in Toledo, OH. My brother sang louder than JP and the audience was laughter at my brother. Three years ago John was in an accident and after 20 days we had to take him off of life support. I miss him so much he was the best big brother and losing him is like losing an arm, but listening to JP gives me back my Bubby John for a while. Thanks John Prine for all the years of great music and wonderfull memories your music sparks of my Bubby John.

Dear John, My brother who died two years ago was I'm sure one of your greatest fans. There is trouble and turmoil in his life which I wouldn't even begin to desbcribe here but I think the biggest compliment you could ever have was that your music played at his funeral. He thought that much of you and his sons, Clint and Chad knew it. His wife (not necessarily a fan) always used to tell me when I visited with my brother "she doesn't want to hear your music" and to keep peace I never pressed to hear it. After he died I bought your greatest hits and of course some of them were familiar to me (the one from the TV show for instance) but I can't claim to be the true fan that he was. I do very much like your music and often here it in my head when I think of my brother. I now live in the town where I understand you have a house in Florida. Everyone I've asked is very protective of you which is good, they think I'm a stalker, I'm not. I'm 55 and one of the greatest things I could accomplish would be for you to give me something signed for my nephews whose father loved your music so much. I know this is probably very wierd and I can't help myself from writing it but if you can find it possible to do this it would mean the world to them. They have even kept his old truck (full of holes and barely running) with the hope one day they will have it the way he had it when he was dri ving around playing your music. Please, if you can help respond to this e-mail. You don't know how much it would mean to them. Thanks! Ramona I Plan to leave this message with someone who lives near you when you are in this area and hope you will receive it.

Jeff Gilpin - Gainesville, VA
How I heard your music the first time: My mom now lives in Ceder Creek, Tx and I was out there visiting her there about a year ago and she told me about your song "In Spite of Ourselves". I looked it up online and liked it (very unique lyrics). I tried to figure our your chords and gave it a try and it sounded okay to me but not near as good as your version. Your music remind me of lots of the songs my dad sang to us growing up on road trips from North Carolina to Houston where we have family.
Thanks,
Jeff - West Hamlin, WV
I know you've heard this B4 --- I am a true John Prine fan.....I have many Fav's but the one I turn to is the acoustic version of "mexican Home" to get the overall meaning of a john prine song---the poet comic -the ESSENTIAL singer/songwriter---who can lay down the meaning of life in a song with a smile and a tear---My second honeymoon was a John Prine concert in Greensboro NC 2006---I have a prine song book that I have put together by my fav's in order with coinciding cd's to match so i play along with them one page at a time---have done it for years and I'm not tired yet!!!!! John-------never give up------your fans love the music----and many thanks for bringing up OH BOY --along with todd snider-----talk about REAL music!!!!!!!!!----I got the hat and t-shirt---would love to have an autograph---by the way John-----I was the guy that yelled " LOVE YA JOHN PLAY DEAR ABBY!" in DC and you said love ya' all to and then did---THANK YOU http://www.myspace.com/johnprinefan

It is an honor, I have very fond memories of your music as a little girl. .I know some people talk about comfort food, or comfort clothes. For me it will always be your Prime Prine album. I was listening to it when I saw your name on my systers friend list. I thought I would just drop a line and let you know that you are now a favorite of not only my Fathers, but mine, and my childrens. Even my two year old grandson knows one or two lines from a couple of your songs.

Howdy - you sir are one hell of a songwriter. I am going to go out on a shaky limb here and say that Crazy As a Loon is my all time fav. That kind of story tellin' is whats missing from mainstream music today. Y'all should add it to your playlist so I can cram it down the throats of the people that visit my page.

If you could wish my wife, Mary, "Happy Anniversary" it would make that a very special evening.
Mary - USA
Dear John, Thank you for including Bellingham on your tour.
My husband, our 13 year old daughter, and I thoroughly enjoyed the show
(as we have before). The fellow from which I bought my flyswatter
confirmed for me that you are, in real life, the same sweetheart of a guy
who comes through on stage and in your music and lyrics. So thank you
for being such a fine role model and for sharing your gift with us all.
I have to think that "Hello in There" is one reason my daughter makes
eye contact and says "hello" to people of all kinds.
Bonna - USA
Dear John,
Please come back to the Tennessee Theatre. My husband and I are long time fans, actually my husband has been a fan for many years and he got me hooked on your music (and him too) about 5 years ago. Anyway, his dad appreciates good music too, and for years he's known that we always go to your shows if they are nearby, but he'd never really listened. So, now he has and really, really loves your music. (But then again, what's not to love???) He would have went to your show in Knoxville last year, as it was just a few days away from his birthday, but he was in the hospital with heart problems. We really really hope you come back soon, we'd like an opportunity to bring him to hear you perform.
Thanks!!!
Sally -Des Moines
Dear John, my hubby and I always see you when you bless Des Moines with your presence and I mean BLESS! We travelled to Montana last week to see you, Dave and Jason, old friends, the mountains and it ALL was good. Thanks for introducing us to Dan Reeder; he's a very funny man and good musician too. Dave and Jason are so cool and accomplished and then you turn on the energy and charm and start playing and singing and we are blown clean away! Thank you for sharing your music, observations and time with us. We love ya!
Mike - KY, USA
I saw you in Ashland, Kentucky when you were here. Been a big fan from the beginning. We've grown old together but you have made the trip much, much more enjoyable. Thanks for all the great music down through the years.
Gavin in Bellingham, WA
Mr. Prine-
My earliest and most treasured memories are of curling up in my dads guitar case listening to him play your songs to me and my mom, or dusting, cleaning, and singing with my mom while blasting your (and Miss Raitt's) records. When I was old enough to learn, my dad started teaching me to play, and I never stopped. Now I sing your songs to MY wife, and my younger brother teaches me a Prine tune every time I see him.
Your music has been such a gift to me and my family, keeping us company whatever the situation, and inspiring me in my own songwriting. I cannot thank you enough. I will be at the Mount Baker Thearter for your Bellingham show, in the 7th row screaming my head off. I have a songbook of yours that my dad bought in 1974, and an identical and newer one that is mine. I hope I can corner you so you can sign them both.
Ayne - Winnipeg, Manitoba
Hi Mr. Prine,
Just wanted to drop a quick note. You've been my fave since I was just a wee lass...and I really enjoy the new album. I'm sure you don't remember me, but I was the hospitality coordinator at one of your shows at the Walker/Burton Cummings theatre in Winnipeg, Canada
(I found you a coconut cream pie...) Hope you're well!
Take care! Love, Aynsley

We just wanted to tell you that we love your music. We don't have every album of yours yet, but we're still working on that. Our band even plays your songs for our friends when we get together. Your cd with "Some Humans Ain't Human" is really good. There's a truth there for sure. We're posting your banner on our webpage for your new album. Take care and have a great week.

Mr. Prine,
your music is of great inspiration for me. It has been for 15 to 20 years.
I have just released a new live CD (live in New York) which includes my cover version of "That's The Way That The World Goes Round".
I was wondering if you were interested in hearing it. If so, please let me know where I can mail you the CD to.
And, to steal a line from one of your songs, I guess I wish you all the best...
Ciao for now,

Your so awesome. I wish you would write back and it be you. Youve been a huge inspiration to me in my own music. Funny little story. My husband of 20 years is 56. And when we first got together we used to fill our weekends with loud John Prine music. We knew all the songs, all the words.. Then later in life, the mp3 player came around.. so we would lay down and each share a ear piece and sing the songs together.. :) Then I started covering Souvenirs and realized one day how much you have inspired me when writing my own stuff too.. Thanks Man for All of it.

wow!! The John Prine!!!! Have to say your music, is what made me learn to listen and enjoy folk and you older country/folk/bluegrass music. I have to say one song had more influence than any other. Forgive me if I name it wrong, I have heard so many different titles to it. "Paradise," I am from south side of Butler county and spent a lot of summer days in Muhlenberg county fishing the strip pits. Well enough babbling just wanted to say thanks for the influence and great memories.
Kelly - Michigan, USA
I've been listening to your music since i was a little kid. My father infected me, I hated it then but now your CD's do not come out of my car or home stereo. My fiance and I can not get enough. Thank you for giving us real music and real lyrics.
A true fan

JQ -- Tallahassee
I got stuck on a detour off of I-10 from Jacksonville to Tallahassee because of the forest fires. The traffic was so bad through the little town of Lake City that it took me an hour to go seven miles.
Instead of getting mad and getting madder, I turned John Prine up full blast. I passed a news crew filming the traffic jam while I was listening to Whistle and Fish and thought, "I must look like the happiest person in the smoke. I rolled down the window and yelled "It'll be alright if you listen to John Prine.
Diller - Berlin, Germany
Hi, John
I've seen you a couple-a-while ago at the ol' Quasimodo/Berlin (Germany that is) and hope I'll get a second chance. Been a great fan since ages and me and my mats tried to work on a few of your songs but never managed to reach the class (of course). Come on over nd give us a lesson.

Have you ever played at the Rotterdam Bar...
developers are trying to wipe it out - help by adding your weight to the campaign to save it or get it incorporated into any new development.
This bar is so important to Belfast's musical, historical and cultural heritage. If we lose this place there's nowhere else like it. It is over 200 years old and was once used as a holding post for 'criminals' on their way to Australia.
I hope you can help!!

dear mr prine,
i know it wont matter much to you,,,but i would be honored and thrilled to be added to your list. I first heard you on Sat, night live when i was in high or jr. high school, you did Sam Stone...i was hooked by you and have been a fan ever since. when you played Oak mountain ampitheater in Pelham alabama i met 2 girls while i was in line for a ticket and they came up and offered me their extra. { 3rd row seat 8 CENTER }...it rained like hell and you said you'd stay and play long as we did. that sir was the finest concert i've ever been to...just you and that reel to reel backing you up. i don't mean to ramble,,,just wanted to say hello and let you know that your songs and singing have meant alot to this world. but they have meant a great deal to me many times...it's your grasp on life and being able to not only write it down but also sing it and everyone can relate to what you've said. yes sir i'm def. a fan of yours,,,if ever in new orleans you've got a plain old everyday mechanic that will fix you some great crawfish and sit and talk for hours out in the courtyard. thank you for being you.
Mary Jane - Stamping Ground, KY
You are undoubtedly my all time favorite make me feel good musician. No matter how I feel just listening to you makes for a great day.
J.D. - Norcross, GA
Whether this is the real J.P. or not, for the record, I believe there have only been a few hundred, or maybe thousand, or, perhaps million or billion truly great lyricists and John Prine is one of them so help me God (or whoever).
I saw John Prine in Ann Arbor at the Power Center either 20 or 200 years ago and after 2 hours (days?) of listen to just he and his guitar on stage I turned to my date as we left the auditorium and said, "Wasn't that GREAT?" (I, nearly bouncing off the walls with the pleasure of having seen this incredible performance) and my then-girlfriend (later to be friend, then girlfriend again and then, later, completely estranged stranger), replied, her lower lip trembling, "It was SO sad".
No wonder that relationship didn't work out (no matter how many times we tried to have one). Oh, well, at least I enjoyed the show.
I've always meant to see John Prine again. I've seen Doc Watson twice and had the pleasure of seeing Frank Zappa three times. I reckon I'll see John Prine again, someday.
Thanks for listening J.P. (or whoever),
Peace,
J.D.

Dear John, Old Songs Please - I've been a big fan of yours for about 20 years, I'm not sure if most 23 year olds can say that. I grew up listening to your music, my father is a big fan of yours as well. I've been to one of your shows here in Louisville and wish that you would come back more often. What I would really like is if you could put some of your songs on from earlier in your career. Have a few friends in a couple cover bands the play around town in Louisville. Every now and then they let me sing a few,my favorites are "It's a Big Ole Goofy World" and "Daddy's Little Pumpkin" but when I get off stage everyone is like "Where in the world did you get that song?" I love your new stuff, but I would love to hear some of the classics on here.
Praying You'll Add Some Classics...

AN OPEN LETTER TO JOHN PRINE -- Dear Mr. Prine (If I may be so bold),
Though I consider myself fortunate to be conspicuously lacking in heroes, as such, I do regret having missed countless opportunities for acknowledging the influence of certain individuals that I admire, or with whom I may share an interest.
For years it was my fondest wish to meet Red Skelton, however, unless my condition worsens his untimely demise has left little chance for introductions. Rumors persist that Dick Van Dyke, another favorite, has also deceased yet remains sufficiently animated to perform at least 1 more year of series television.
So, pen in hand, I take aim at you before it's too late. (Don't worry. I haven't heard anything.) Not only have I enjoyed your work immensely for over 30 years, we also seem to share an affinity for the manipulation of words and phrases that in various parts of the United States still pass for language. The difference being, of course, your possession of considerable talents, which provide an application for these musings. (This was originally intended as a compliment. I guess I need a little work on my backhand.)
Accompanying this correspondence you will find a link to a metered query occasioned by the deaths of my father and 3 uncles. If printed and folded in accordance with the detailed diagram on the back it makes a really neat tabletop football. If you can think of an alternative method for giving life to this meager verse through the twisting and rearranging of vowels and consonants, please feel free to use my name and pay me handsomely. If not, well...to hell with it. I enjoyed writing the letter, anyway.
Additionally, it would be my humble pleasure to someday make your acquaintance, but given my thoroughly abysmal social skills, and possessing absolutely no aptitude for small talk, if we ever actually do meet we must hope to have experienced a particularly nasty stretch of weather that week so as not to be starved for conversation.
DR JOEL GOOVERT

This is a dear John letter, I guess:
Thanks for the music. I've been with ya since your first album (owned a record store in the 70s, and everything you released was played in-store, along w me and my buddy Gary sittin and pickin and grinnin and havin more than a few beers - record stores used to be so cool - and mine was one of the coolest). There's not a poet/singer/songwriter out there who's better than you, and ol' Stevie, too. (Such a sad thing, Stevie leavin us way before his time...although I suppose it was his time - I can't figure it out.)
I've never had the pleasure of seeing you in concert, but I have had the pleasure of hearing your songs for some 30 years now (and playing them on stage in so many cover bands). You have within you so much humanity that speaks to so many people. I hope you know that..I'm pretty sure you know that.
I'm eagerly awaiting the next release. Talent like yours just won't go away - ever.
Thanks again for all the great music. I do love ya, man.

You're music is as good as it gets. If you're ever near St. Louis I hope to see you.
My dad is also from Western Kentucky (Paradise), Trigg County, and I'm also a 1946er. Proud of that 60's thing.
Keep up the exceptional work. http://www.myspace.com/dickgoodwin

John Prine,
YOU are the man!!! I have every thing you have ever released and then some. My collection of your work is equaled only by my Beatle collection, oh and my Hank Sr collection. We must not forget Hank. I do 'Please Don't Bury Me" when I do solo shows. People always laugh but then look a bit uneasy. Guess it's 'cause we're all headed for that situation eventually. I love you man!!!!!!!!!! http://www.myspace.com/andyleewhite

I've seen you (John Prine) in Woodstock twice at the Opera House and once last year in Rockford and have been a huge fan since I was like 14. Last week in Woodstock, my garage was broken into and my whole collection of John Prine C.D.'s were stolen from my car. Now I'm just waiting for my house insurance to send a check so I can go to the Oh-Boy records web-site to buy the Full Johnny to replace them all! Also wondering if you will ever return to the Opera House in Woodstock Illinois? What if we promise there will be no SNOWSTORMS!

I go to all your concerts when your in the toronto area but the last time was my best time I got to shake your hand and you signed my guitar which I play many of your songs on

No story, yet, but puhleeze think of bringing your songs to Los Angeles. You never have CA on your tour dates locations. I am sure enough people would be interested to hear you. Thxevrso for your consideration. We love you - C & R

There are many fans in the Buffalo, NY area who would love it if you could schedule a concert here in the future. Fans from nearby areas such as Rochester, NY - Niagara Falls - Erie, PA and Toronto, Canada live less than 2 hours driving time from Buffalo. I'm sure that your show would be greatly appareciated.

Hey John, Hope you & yours are well. I was given your first album by my cousin i n '71. I'm 53 years old & wiser now, wiser in a good part thanks to you. I've met you briefly after several shows over the years. You have actually helped to form the way I see life in general. I told you once at Central City, Ky That you had saved me a lot of money in psychiatry bills.I have taken from your slant on life the ability to find a little bright spot in the worst situations.thank you! My wife bought me the Full Johnny a couple of years ago and I've added Fair & Square & just ordered Standard songs, can't wait to hear it.My dad is 78 & has been to two of your shows with me .He was an instant fan. Take care & thanks for being a part of my life. We'll see you soon whn you're close enough. O. W.

I tried to see John Prine at Penn State. Didn't get
tickets. Our friend, George Boyer, who ran all the lighting, acoustics, etc.,
at the concerts, took a liking to Prine and took him down to the
Brickhouse Tavern after the show. John loved it and everyone there did, too. I saw John Prine last Sunday at the Avalon Theater in Grand Junction, CO. He did a fantastic show! Mindy Smith was on the show as well as two wonderful accompanists on bass, bass guitar and various electric rhythm.

Hello In There (How many times have you gotten that greeting?)
Hi There, Mr. Prine! I just wanted to say hi to you from over here in Kosovo. Of course I am one of your fans and I want to thank you for all the great stuff you have recorded for our dining and dancing pleasure. You are an American treasure! When the chance comes up I tell people how great Steve Goodman was, too! Have a nice day and I hope to see you somewhere down the road.

I started singing at folk clubs 34 years ago-Sam Stone, Spanish Pipedream, Hello on there and more. I actually did two plays in high school we wrote around sam stone and hello in there....Your part of my life John Prine

Kim M - Lynchburg, VA
My life has been so touched by your music that I couldn't begin to explain to you how. I try to see as many shows as I possibly can, because I am so eager to hear the subtleties and nuances that are singular to each show. There is nothing like hearing you sing, "Hello in There" live. The last time I saw you was in February in Lexington, KY. I've got tickets for your June show in D.C. I've driven from Lynchburg, Virginia, to Athens, GA; Chattanooga, TN; Lexington, KY; Washington, DC; Richmond, VA; Greensboro, NC; Vienna, VA; and Roanoke, VA many times to see you. I've gotten my brother and my parents and, uh-hum, many ex-boyfriends hooked on your music. --- My brother told me a story a couple of years ago about when he went to this place for work. (He works for a heating and cooling company.) He heard your music and asked the receptionist who was playing it. She told him, and my brother asked to meet him, all excited to meet another John Prine fan. The receptionist asked, "What is it with you people?" She meant, as in, you John Prine fans, that you get so excited about it. Well, we just can't help it!
My brother and I got to meet Jason Wilber last spring in Roanoke. It was a real honor for the both of us. (My brother plays guitar and is amazed with Jason Wilber.) We hope to someday have the honor of meeting you personally.
Denny W. - Kentucky, USA
Hi John. Man, I've been a fan longer than either of us want to admit. I've been lucky enough to catch several of your shows here in Louisville over the years.
(I think the first was at an old theater on Bardstown Rd.) "Fair and Square" is a great piece of work! I'm especially fond of "Glory of True Love" and "Bad Monday". Your writing has inspired me to do a little in my later years. How in the world did you come up with the line "naked as the eyes of a clown"? It's a classic. Ah well, I'll keep trying. I hope to meet you one day.
I think I just missed you one night about 20 years ago.
I used to go by the old "Suttler" in Nashville and somebody told me you'd been in. Keep up the great work and don't wait so long between projects!

Dear Mr. Prine -
I moved out to Michigan seven years ago from Seattle, and though I make it home a few times per year, it isn't often that I cross paths with my past. Last summer, I was going through a divorce, and at the right time, an old friend of mine showed up in Michigan for a few weeks. When I was younger, I went to college; he went to culinary school. As old friends sometimes do, we lost track of one another. Until that one out of the blue phone call. Somehow, we both managed to travel the world, so we each had plenty of stories to share. We met up for a few beers, and I later spent a few weekends with him up at Burt Lake in the north. He introduced me to your music, which has quickly become among my favorites. It's deep and meaningful, and came along at the right time in my life - when I was forced to make sense of the world around me, and rediscover who I am. Anyhow, my girlfriend and I are going to try to make it out to PA this summer to hear you play. Thank-you for contributing something good to the world.
John - Marina del Ray, CA I just heard you on the streamming radio station 105.5 tripleM Madison, WI - I really like your sound. Will you be performing in L.A. anytime soon?

Hi, I am one of your dedicated fans! I just had to ask if you were in green hills mall friday afternoon? I think I missed my chance to thank you for all of your fantastic music! I didn't want to bother you, but you should have seen me gasp for air... wondering if I was missing the chance I had been waiting for! Your music has been there through the hard times and i thank you for that. It has also been there through the good...like taking my republican boyfriend to see you in St.Louis! You should have seen the look on his face after your political references...it was great. Now, I have turned him into a fan...imagine that. thanks again and i hope to see you play in nashville soon!

i just finished watching a dvd of john with steve goodman
from 1978
i grew up in the suburbs of chicago and remember so well going to see
steve and john play down in old town clubs..they were so Beautiful and
so inspiring to me, tho i am painter, not a musician, their take was so
offbeat and really spoke of how i felt..still does... i miss those days
terribly and losing steve goodman so young still makes me cry.

To John; Twenty-five years ago it was cheap weed, MD 20/20
and a "Bruised Orange"...over the years I rode in the "Pink Cadilac" and
gained some "Common Sense"...on June 16th we'll be sitting in Orc.
B-Box Row 10 (without the weed), I've dreamed of seeing you in concert for far too long! For so many years, more than I can remember you have been apart of my life. Why am I crying? On June 16th my wife and friends will be there dude...and me...I'll be throwin a GIANT HUG & HIGH-FIVE!
Michael Tarala - NC
I was out to dinner with friends on Wednesday in Florida. They were showing me their wedding pictures. When I lifted my head up, I realized that John was sitting at the table next to me. I quietly introduced mysealf as a fan of 25 years. Now I realize that it's more like 35 as I first saw him at the Philadelphia Folk Festival in the 70's. He's a great man and very cordial in person. I always wanted to meet him, saw him live near my NC home last year. I'm thrilled.
Don Nerren - Brandon, Mississippi
See where you are coming to Jackson Mississippi in July. Yea. I got my tickets and have sign on my car: "John Prine coming to Jackson".
I saw you in Vicksburg, Mississippi a few years back and I really believe you will draw a great crowd. I am a 62 year old retired Baptist Minister and your music sure mixes with all I do. Just know I will be in the audience when you get to Jackson. Thanks for making it possible for us to hear you again
~ME~ NJ, USA
Hi Mr. Prine Talk about inspirations Steve Goodman may well have written a one of a kind train song but YOU have written everything else and then some-I keep writing songs hoping that one time I might like one --I have loved your songs and lyrics since I first heard you in the 70's (we were both just a little younger then) -- you are and have always been for me a voice that was not only clear but honest--I hope you will post me as a friend as I have been and will continue to always be--Thank you so much for your music and whatever you do keep on writing and singing! Peace
Kilian - Dublin, Ireland
Hey John, fairly new to your music. I was introduced by a friend about year or so ago. In fact he mentioned your music one day when we were up in Donegal. That night I heard Josh Ritter play Mexican Home at one of his gigs. The rest is history - one album, two album, three album, more. Anyways... Just been looking at your tour dates - do you play over this direction at all? Rumours and whispers abound of the odd gig in Ennis at An Glor. Any truth in these? Yours, Enjoying the tunes

Hi John. It looks like I'm going to miss my chance to see you in Grand Junction Colorado. I live in Oklahoma but work up there. If you're driving out there, there are a bunch of drillrigs around Rifle. I work on the one just past the west Rifle exit on a bluff overlooking the interstate. Anyway I would have to leave three day's earlier than normal and my son may not understand. The good news was we were headinng out to work one morning and 105.3 FM was playing "Sweet Revenge" You take care.

John - I know you hear it all the time, but you are a hero of mine. Sorry for the short story but...
So one night I get home, late at night and I turn on the TV, I was surfing and saw you on Sessions at West 54th st. (Or some name of some show on PBS). Now I was never a huge country music fan, but I always loved storys. When I saw you, I put the remote down, and listened, the next day, on my lunch hour, went to the store and bought some of your music, and have been a fan ever since. Thanks for giving us great storys...
Speaking of storys, I write blogs all the time, and some of them are good, if I do say so myself, so if you, or your friends have some time, pop over to my profile, and...
READ MY BLOGS!!! (Please)

who'd a thunk it. I have been a big fan since the early 70's, back in Ashland Ky.
I have most of your music, but still listen on here.
Keep the music coming, and if you ever get to Little Rock, Ar. (my temp. place of exile.) I will be first in line at the ticket counter.
Thanks for the words and music.

Guess I own just about everything you have ever put out buddy. Got Live at the Soundstage last week and watched it after the news. What fun to see the 80s again and I loved your Ford Coupe. Still rocking to your Live on Tour album a few years ago but I have enjoyed Fair and Square too. All in all, I am enjoying my last 30 years of listening to your stuff. Take Care, you are an important voice in the music business and an original indy.

Turned into a big fan this last year. We we're going to come see you in Iowa but fell short on cash. Loved to call you a buddy.
your music doesn't leave my stereo.
Lake Marie to Bear Creek to Whistle and Fish and every song in between. I've been listening to your words. They seem to give me a purpose when I felt there was none. godbless...

I'll never get tired of hearin 'bout your side of life. Your thought process inspires me to write as well as find my own "groove" in my song writing. Just gettin started and would like the world to know that you are one of my main influences. Keep on keepin' on
p.s. Thanks for everything you've done

Body: Mr. Prine:
I think that you are one hell of a good songwriter, and somehow I get the feeling that you are a down to earth guy. I am a painter of landscapes, passionate about painting the beauty of the open spaces here in California where I live, and recently I started messing around with songwriting. I am a rank beginer, taking lessons in the local adult ed program, having lots of fun with thinking about lyrics while I paint.
I figure that if this is really your site, and not something set up by a fan, then one time you might not mind checking out a couple of my songs and tell me what you think. http://www.myspace.com/arturotello
thank you for even considering it. And thank you for your great songs.
Kathy - Boonefille, Arkansas
many thanks
Body: Many thanks for all the years of great music, I have a daughter in the navy and she is 19 yrs old loves your music as much as I do. We are really big fans as I have always been so I passed your music on to her and she loves it also. She is stationed in Hawaii at this time maybe I could catch a show there. waiting for the next cd will definately be getting one. Rock on John you are the greatest, by the way I love your song bout the cowboy in texas starting his own war. Damn this war and those who start the crap for no reasons we want to be involved in. Thanks again
Puckett - Mississippi
Thank you for the music I'm a late-comer to your concerts.
I saw your show with Iris DeMent in New Orleans,
in Memphis at the Orpheum and now looking forward to Jackson, MS in August.!!!!
I had heard a couple of years ago that you might come to Taylor Grocery near Oxford, MS to play. I got so excited, but I never got any more info, so I don't know if you ever did.
You're the first singer/songwriter I repeatedly want to see. Guess that makes me kind of a 'groupie' ?
I met Keith Sykes a couple of weeks ago in Oxford. He was part of the Thacker Mountain Radio Show. "You Got Gold" is one of my favorite songs that you do.
But then, I get enthusiastic about so many of your songs, as so many people do, and I guess you don't get tired of the accolades. I know I wouldn't .
Brian Rork, Ottumwa IA
wow. i just went and saw you at the adler in davenport ia a few weeks ago. loved the show. it blew away my wildest expectations. ive loved your music since i was a little boy. my dad got killed in a motorcycle wreck in 1979 and after seeing you on the hay bales on your first album i used to think you were him and he ran off to be a musician. how funny!?! anyhow keep on playing cause the show was great. ive seen alot of concerts(jimmy buffet, korn, papa roach, creed, among others) and yours was the best by far. thanks for coming to small towns. we appreciate the entertainment.

hi john,
not sure if this is you reading or someone affiliated.. but if it's you, i have to tell you have influential and helpful your witty gorgeous songs have been on my journey through life.
i taught myself guitar with some of your songs, and i have laughed, cried and sought solace in your music so many different times in my life.
thanks for adding me and thank you for ending up as a singer/songwriter who has shared so much with us all. i'm a massive fan (obviously). any plans to come to the west coast?!?
all the best,

Dear John,
Hope this little email finds you healthy and happy!!
Is there any chance of getting an autographed photo of you to hang in the room where my two sons and I jam and practice. Sort of like the way the Popes picture used to hang in every Catholic classroom as a kid growing up, This could be their "Pope Picture" while they practice. They are both great kids, each has their own band, but we raised them on John Prine, Steve Goodman, Bonnie Raitt, and Little Feat, just to make sure they understand what "HONEST MUSIC" is all about. I could send a S.A.S.E. , cash, whatever it takes. Please come back to Cleveland soon!!
Thanks for everything,

A great long time ago you sat next to me at Fatburger on San Vicente. That's one of them I met you when stories. Tonight I met Fur Dixon and Steve Werner at Kulak's Woodshed, and Fur not only gave me their album, but invited me to a barbecue. I noticed you were listed as a friend of theirs, and couldn't believe you were a myspace guy. You are the gold standard as a songwriter. I was thrilled to eat a burger next to you. If you are ever in town looking for a home cooked meal, I'll make sure Fur and Steve are there, Cydney Robinson (new and very, very cool singer-See "Songs for the Shoeless") and we'll cook for a couple of days. I might even get my neighbor to come over, which isn't that easy. Do you know that guy Larry Murray, who used to have a band called Hearts and Flowers? Well, he's a good neighbor anyway. Okay, so the offer is real, but I can see your schedule. I have to admit this is a fan email. May the road rise with you. Looks like you got a lotta road to travel. Grow in Grace,

Glad to see you back in fightin' form."

Dude. What about here (tour dates). I mean I've seen you play before, but it was at Bonaroo 05 and I was a little out of my head. I can't even remmember if you played my favorite song, lol. I just wanted you to know I've always admired your music. I remember being a little kid and hearing Sam stone, acoustic is so much better. Music has always been an important part of my life as I'm sure it has been yours. Every song tells a story and like one of the great whores of my time I incorporate to myself and let it tell my story as well.
I always wanted to play an instrument but have never really had the patience. anyways dude take it easy and keep jamming

Hey John!!! Thank you for still blessing us with your music! I first heard you in 1971 after I returned fron Vietnam. Sam Stone really hit home with me. I saw many of my friends OD from the herion over there. The saddest thing of all though, was that more than 56,000 of our kids died over there for nothing. I got to see you again in Sacramento in October "06. You still got it my brother, you are a gift to all of us who knoa your work. I am very honored and grateful that I will se you again this coming April 22 in Bellingham, Washington. For those who feel the need to criticize you for diong the Flag decal song, the heck with them! They (lyrics) are just as appropriate today as they were then. Thank you for still carrying the message.I hope you sing it again in Bellingham! Whatever you sing though, it's all good, very good!!! See you soon in Bellingham. From a vetthat cares.

Hi John, Our journey together started back in 1971 when as a 14 year old run-away I made my way across the U.S. to the songs from your first album, mostly the song with the lyrics 'see everybody needs somebody that they can talk to'. 'Sam Stone' haunted my dreams for many years due to four brothers who had gone to Nam and came back forever changed. We met up again in 1977 when 'Illegal Smile' was a somewhat daily venture of mine. As time went on I found refuge in 'New Train' and many more bits of personal genius that seemed to pop out of your mouth that reflected and told my story once again. Now at the tender age of maturity (?) I again have found myself readying myself for a date with you on May 18th, a gift from my son and daughter to commemorate my graduation with two master's degrees in counseling. Yes, love of the human soul is also a passion of mine. One of my greatest dreams is to meet you in person, however if I am not blessed enough to do so, I will find gratitude and connection realizing that I am not the only person in America or the world that thinks outside the box. Thanks for all the melodies you have given me as friends along my personal journey of discovery. A fan forever, Connie

Hi, John,
In our tiny home town (village, if you prefer), we have quite a JP following. A few if us who have seen you in Cleveland and Cincinnati managed to convince the owner of the local tavern to put one of your CD's in the jukebox (In Spite of Ourselves). It has now become the most played album in the establishment.
Come back ot Ohio - PLEASE??? Buckeyes love ya!
John Klockau
My wife and I are big fans. We were at your show in Rockford, Illinois in May of 2006, DesMoines, Iowa in August of 2006 and recently in Davenport, Iowa. We would go again in a minute! I bought one of your early albums because the cover photo had you reclining in an old Porsche covertible D. I had a 1960 Porsche Roadster at the time. I still have a 1960 Roadster, and I stll love all of your music. We heard you play "Please don't bury me" for the first time at the Adler in Davenport. It was fantastic, as were all of your songs. We weren't yelling for favorites like the silly couple in front of us because "It's all good" I hope you return to our area on your next tour. We will be there again! John & Judy Klockau, Hampton, Illinois (on the Mississippi)

I saw John Prine at the Adler, it was my first time, but I have been a fan ever since he was knee high to a grasshopper. I read an article that morning in the Quad City Times and was able to buy tickets out front that night! I am revived and refreshed by your songs Mr Prine. Long may you continue saving us from bad lyrics and whatever the latest fad is. I really enjoyed your show and the woman who began it for you. I love you!!

Ok here it goes. I'm sittin' in the Dixon Pamida parking lot drinkin' beers with my cousin Doug and he keeps goin' on about this John Prine guy. He has an 8 track and a green corvette. I was 18 or 19 at the time, now I'm 50. I learned as many songs as I could and played them in a lot of bars. You should see it when there's a John Prine fan in the crowd. They might not know who I am but if I played Prine then I was like accepted into this special club. Those people would die for you. I've played at a lot of tough bars and I never had to worry about gettin my ass kicked 'cause I played John Prine songs. If you played John Prine then the bikers, hippies and cowboys would watch out for you.
Thanks John! See you Sat night at the Adler. I'm bringin my older sister and brother-in-law. My wife bought four tickets for my birthday. I have front row seating somewhere between the 1st and 10th row.
I play a pretty mean version of Paradise. I'd like to play it for you sometime before I die.

Lori and Brad, Morrisonville, IL
Brad and I will be married March 10th, 2007 and instead of a rehearsal for the wedding, we are going to see John in Springfield, IL on March 9th. Brad turned me on to John's music early in our engagement and it has grown on me. Brad's brother Doug is here from Montana for the wedding and is coming with us. I understand he has seen John several times before and will see him again in Missoula soon. To share John's music with our families the night before we marry will be so special! Wow, wouldn't a song dedicated to Brad and Lori's new life together be awesome? Whether you can or not, we will be there enjoying every minute of you!

In 1995-We got tickets to see John at the Ådler--we ate supper at the BlackHawk next door and they mentioed we could bring in cameras--OMG--so being "happy" we proceeded to walk around and ask everyone and anyone in the bar andgrill if we could buy thier cameras or if they had one we could borrow--anyways, we went up to a table having a gay ole time and asked them--they said"why would we take pictures of ourselves??" We are the Band,girl"--so I said" Yeah, okay--yesterday was my birthday--and today my friend, Lorretta was just born a half hour ago--They then said if you don't believe us.show up at the side door backstage after the show--So imagine our surprise, when the lights when up--andthere they were!! My friend and I were screaming so loud we lost our voices--We got to go backstage and get our pics with him and talk to him--there were loose dogs running around --it was hilarious!!That was my best day ever!

You used to be my very favorite songwriter, poet, musician, etc. Get the idea? Then my husband heard your song "Other Side of Town" on "Fair and Square. Now whenever I need some chore done he tells me he is "travelling in his mind" like John Prine. Thanks a Lot!!!!!!!!!!

Hey John, dont know if it is really you taking this message ,but I think we are cousins some how. I come from a very large family The DeVine family, my mom is Mary Lou DeVine. My uncle Tommy from Colorado told me about you and your music, it is awesome. I might come to your show here in Davenport at the Adler, it depends if i can still get tickets or not? If we are cousins that would be pretty cool.

Metal Head loves your music I just wanted to tell you how much I like your music I dont listen to country at all but one of my friends had made a ringtone for his cell phone from the song Paradise something about that song spoke to me maybe it was because I was somewhat connected to that area. I live in Bowling green, ky now but lived in Rockport ky for 5+ years and played with a band from Morgantown. thank you for your time and music.

THANK YOU!!!!!!! Mr. Prine, Since i could remember (literally) my dad admired you. my fondest memeries are of you. meaning, my father use to sit me, my older sister and my younger brother on his lap and we all use to sing your album. my favorite was dear abby and grandpa was a carpenter. words could not express how much your music mad me happy as a little girl. when he would go to one of your concert he would be happy for days and of course that benifited my sister, brother and I. My dad even met his fiance though you. yeah i know your telling yourself that it could not be, but a part of it is true. my dad had an instant attraction to his fiance Christy because she enjoyed your music too. he swore it was love at first CHAT (they met online). well needless to say she thought he was crazy and avoided him for the longest.....but somehow he wedged his way back into her life. now i cant see them two living apart. my dad and christy own a candle buisness. they both love u so much if they new ur favorite scents they'd probably name a candle after you..... assuming it smells good.lol. my brother just passed away January 3, 2007. not that my dad hasnt been being strong for me and my family. i would just love to KNOW he is happy, instead wondering if he is hiding his true feelings. well this is getting too deep and now i cant stop crying. just wanted you to know that you have an amazing fan out there, my father. and i thank you for giving me good memories of not only my brother but for my dad for when his time comes....hopfully not soon. thank you! thak you! thank you! GOD BLESS!

Gigs in Europe? Hello John, I did the sound on your concert in Ehingen/Germany some years ago. Do you have plans to come over to Germany again? Best regards,

Charlotte
i remember driving through the wilds of South Jersey with my grandma looking for the little county fair where you were playing. we got lost twice. but we finally found it - and it was worth it. . . you give good story
Denise
Love your music. It's been a soundtrack for a life full of memories for a long time.

Some humans ain't human.......you've done it again....grin....You're one of my hero's...I know way too many of your songs...back to the flag decals won't get you in to heaven anymore....looks like sadly we could use that song again....huh. Anyway I am a public school visual art teacher...to around 800 kids a week...kinda like being the old woman in the shoe...ha....(probably a song in that somewhere)....it's a ongoing battle to keep the arts in schools...and find folks crazy enough...to teach that many youngin’ in one week....
Anyway heard your interview way back on NPR...I laughed out loud at what you told the doctor....Some says its hard to humble....but I think you have more than mastered it....being down to earth...is about as....close as you can get to heaven....I think.
Mark
Just wanted to thank you for exposing me to the likes of Steve Goodman, Iris Dement, and others. I love playing ur music, and If I had a choice two meet two fellas, Itd be you and Kris!! Music comes and goes, but you guys are forever!

...I'm not sure you would even have time to read your own 'mail', especially in the way it flows so freely through these cyber waves...alas, as my heart is beating like a blushing child, I would only regret it if I didn't try reaching out......I was once told that while you were in Chicago, you knew one of my writing heroes, the late Mike Jordan...some of his friends and band mates suggested I cover one of his songs and I picked one that did not have a name...I call it "A Million Tomorrows"...maybe you would enjoy:) The warmest of wishes to you, John...

I had the best birthday ever this year. Because I got to see your amazing show from a box seat in Lexington on Saturday! I can't believe you played Illegal Smile!!! I've always wanted to hear that live! Thank You!

...so i pick up this lady hitchhiking , take her to the store and she invites me in to help her drink a 12 -pack ...while i watched her in her apartment , i became less impressed every minute , but she was pretty nice looking so i made myself stay ...then when there was only 1 beer left i stood up and said "well i guess i'm gonna roll now .."she didnt even hear that , she was digging thru her cd's ...when she looked up at me she says " so , you probly never heard of john prine , right ? " i wanna tell ya , it was like my world just screached to a halt and i didnt know anything at all anymore ....i managed a " hell yes i do ! ""....she put your anthology on and we both knew the words to every single song on both discs ...that was 3 years ago john , and we have some pretty good memories now thanks to you .whats it like to heal people and never even know it ? by the way , you were great at the state theatre in portland , maine

John, I've been listening to your music for many, many years (since we both were young), and I had to let you know that I can always count on your music to put a smile on my face when I need one. Your music not only lightens my mood during rough times but consoles me when I need consolation ("Hello In There" helped me through the loss of my grandparents, "Linda Goes to Mars" and "Bad Boy" made my divorce more, er, palatable to me and understandable to others(?)). If I could leave this earth knowing that I made people laugh out loud, as well as helped them ease through some hard times, I'd have done far, far more than the many other's who may 'think' they made a difference. Peace, brother, to you and to us all.
Judy Bronson - Allegan, Michigan
Dear Mr. Prine, My younger brother has been telling me about your music for years. So I had to see for myself and saw you at the State Theatre in Kalamazoo, Michigan on 2/10. I was mesmirized by your songs and guitar playing for 3 hours. I have never seen anyone play the guitar like you. I am now a fan. My brother has listened to you for 20 years and has all of your music and probably has memorized all of your songs. My brother was diagnosed with MS a few years and to top that, he is raising his 3 granddaughters. He listengs to your music and sings your songs while he picks his guitar. I know your music gives him strength. He is a hero for what he is doing and you are his hero. Thank you. Can't wait to see you again.

IN I guess it must have been 1990 I was 11 years old. My mother and a few of here freinds were going to your Concert in Sydney Nova Scotia, which is a 2 hour drive from my hometown. Well I guess they were pretty excited and started having a few a little too early. Long Story short my first Prine Concert and First time behind the wheel happened on the same day as I drove to Sydney ( using the back roads ) with 4 drunk adults..... hopefully my son will do the same for me someday. " A question, ain't really a question, if you know the answer too"

Hey John, caught you in my hometown of Kalamazoo on the 10th. That makes show number 34 for me. Thanks for everything.

Hey John, I love ya always have...since WAY back! My brother died loving you, and you sang (your cd"Paradise" and "Rose Colored Glasses") at his funeral.
nd
hey john how is goin? I met you briefly outside your show in the olympia theatre in Dublin last year it was in November I think. I have the pictures safely hidden away. They say never meet your hero and I kinda know what they mean cause you were walking around holding three bananas looking tired and pissed off when I seen you first, but you were pretty hero like. I remember standing outside the stage door in the cold for about 2 hours waiting with my girlfriend. she likes you but not enough to stand in the cold for two hours, so, considering the gig tickets were my birthday present I gave her a guilt trip and bribed her with my shirt and overcoat. I was standing in my t-shirt in the cold and just before you guys came out through the stage door- I chanced a run to the toilet in a club across the street and my girlfriend then persuaded you guys to wait for me to come back from the toilet. So I guess I'm probably one of the only people to leave a message on your my space saying that John Prine waited outside the stage door in the olympia theatre Dublin in the freezing cold, tired and pissed off, to meet ME. I know it took a while to get around to the point of that story but for some reason I felt like I had to tell it. Be good john, drop my a line sometime, nd.

Great Performance Hey John! Just saw you in Kalamazoo. Amazing! First time seeing you, but I grew up listening to your songs everyday. (My dad is a HUGE fan). Christmas just isn't without your holiday CD. So how did Kalamazoo treat you? Find any local salons that you liked? Well thanks again for the great performance. I hope to see you again.

Hi John I just wanted to see if you remembered a time of picking apples in Moab Utah must have been late 70's early 80's well I was there trying to make enough money to get out of town you gave me a tape told me you were a singer, I worked with you for about a week. Anyway just wanted to see if you remembered, it was before steady jobs and kids (which I have now)wouldn't mind going back to that orchard someday, my name is Rick (remember)anyway it was some kind of life back then (not many regrets).

Hey John, Love your writing and your music, I was fortunate enough to have opened for you back in 1986 in the little town of Wise, Virginia. Just over the hill from Ralph Stanley's place. I was part of a trio, we called ourselves The No Name Generic Warm Up Band. Just wanted to say thanks for the opportunity after all these years and thanks for the music.
*Christy - With a little help from friends*
Let me introduce myself. "I am an old woman named after my mother." Well, I guess I'm not THAT old... I hope. :) My name is Christy. I help to manage the MySpace account from which I am sending this. JD, the guitar player for Happenstance, recently turned me on to your music and even plays a few of your songs. I'll admit your name was somewhat familiar when he first mentioned it, but I wasn't quite sure as to why. Then one day I bought a couple of your CD's, and the wheels started to turn when I saw the song "Spanish Pipe Dream" listed on the cover of one. I went home and started reading my old John Denver albums (maybe I AM old ~ I still have a vinyl collection.. lol ). At any rate~ VOILA ~ there you were, Mr. Prine... all over my John Denver records. I realized I had been listening to your music my whole life. That was a pretty cool epiphany I must say. So, I want to say thank you for those songs and for the new ones I've grown so fond of.
If you would indulge me one question though... I could put my own spin on it and interpret the words myself, but why do you call it a "Long Monday?" I find that Tuesday is usually much worse... ;) ~ All the Best ~

"Some Humans ain't Human" hits the nail on the head. I have been a fan since before I knew who you were (as a teen I fell in love with Angels from Montgomery by the late John Denver). Thanks for your music.

Tino - Please add "Your Flag Decal.." to your profile on myspace.com
I got an email from my oldest friend tonight. We've all seen the one about "Red Friday", encouraging us to wear red on Fridays to support the troops, if not El Presidente Grande & his gang of idiots. I emailed my buddy back & told him unfortunately I was so psyched to wear red on Friday that I wore it on Thursday, & we all know what that signifies...or used to, in our misspent yout'. I attached "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore", & while listening to it realized it may be even more apropos than 35 years ago. Now it's flag decals and ribbons stickers, and Steve Goodman's "Penny Evans" is way too fitting now, too, unfortunately. Keep up the good work
Sandi
You're one of my dearest friends and we've never even met. Thank you for your music. You're the greatest.

Was at the Uptown Saturday night. Unbelievable. This was the third show I have seen, by far my favorite. I was second row. Awesome set list, couldn't have been a better show. Keep it up, I can't wait to see you play again.

I'm so glad my dad had me listen to your music when I was young cause now I know pretty much every song!! You're really great, hopefully I can send some of my songs down to Oh Boy records soon so you can hear them. Thanks for the wonderful show! Take care

We went to see your show in Wichita Friday night. An unbelievable experience!! It gets better each time.

hello from texas. just want to say hello to my hero and spiritual companion. i know that sounds weird, but hell thats the price you pay for touching peoples lives through music. god bless you my friend.
One "Happy Enchilada," Teri
John, Your music has filled the corridors of my entire life- When I was very young, your music gave me inspiration- I pledged t blow up my t.v. and eat peaches when I was maybe 7 yrs old. In adolescence, your sadness touched my heart. Angel from Montgomery was my song @ 17 yrs old- i LIVED FOR A SHORT WHILE IN MONTGOMERY TEXAS!
And finally, my grandfather met you a few years later, as he was dying of lung cancer. You sing about your grandpa, the carpenter. Your stories have touched my life in ways few other songwriters can. Your humor and grace fills my heart as memories of my grandpa fill my mind. Thank You, John, for putting so much heart in what you do! My children (ages 6&9) love you now. I can't wait to see you in March! It's a family affair!
Benjamin - WI, USA
Dear Mr. Prine - I am seven years old and have been a fan of
yours since I was 2. Instead of rock a bye baby my dad sang me sleepy
eyed boy. Lots of your songs are my favorites but I would like you to
know that on your song the glory of true love, the part I've got some
friends in alburcurque, where the governor calls me gov, alburcurque
isn't the capital of new mexico! My mom & dad said that the next time you
play in Wisconsin I get to stay up late and see you in concert, I hope
it's soon.
your #1 youngest fan.

Hello John, I am Blaze Foley's sister and publisher. I hope you got my thank you letter back shortly after the release of Fair & Square. You did a GREAT job recording Clay Pigeons, and I know Blaze would be very happy with it. I am working very hard at promoting his songs, but it is difficult at times from a lack of good connections. There are still a number of Blaze songs that have been heard by very few, that will be released in the future. Have you heard the new CD that was released in November 2006? It's titled "Cold, Cold World" by Blaze Foley & the Beaver Valley Boys, and it is very good.
Blaze is the one who turned me on to your music, years ago, as he used to sing alot of your songs. You are also a great writer.
I would love to see you back stage when you are in Austin, TX, if that could even be possible.
One other thing; I have a friend who is a great artist and has done a couple of Blaze portraits, and would love to do one of you. I hope to hear back from you.
Thanks so much!
Marsha

Thank you for the add on Mr. Prine, sir, I greatly appreciate it. You were a very early influence on me back in my coffee house days, even more so than Dylan. If you could take a minute to check out my site and first song at least that would mean a lot to me. All the best,--Pete
Izzy
Hi John, Wanted to say hello and tell you that I've enjoyed your music for years. I started listening to you when I was about 14. I can't remember how i ever learned of you, but there was a lot of us that listened to your music. I see you are playing in my area, (Davenport, IA) the weekend of my birthday. I haven't got tickets yet, because I didn't think I was going to be able to go. Now it looks as though I will be able to. I've been watching the available tickets online. For some reason the Adler Theatre sometimes doesn't put the 1st couple rows of seats on sale until shortly before the show. If they don't do it soon, I'll just have to order whatever I can get. I'd just be glad to get to see you. Anyway, keep on entertaining us. Please
Love, Izzy
Michelle
My dad used to sing your songs to me and my brothers on camping trips. I fell in love with your music before I turned 10. He died a couple years ago. He was 49. I saw you at The Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, KY, he wasn’t there, but he was.... ya know. Your music comforts me with his loss like none other. Thank you and play on ;)
lala:)
One of the best nights of my entire life was seeing you when you played the Classic Center in Athens, GA a few years back. I feel sorta bad because the guy next to me got really mad because I sang along with every song. I can't really blame him, hell I can't sing. That just means you have to come back here to play so I can redeem myself with better behavior (or sit in nosebleed by myself, haha). Your music has helped me make it through a lot, and I thank you. Mucho love, lala:)
Bret
Thanks for the add John, I'd love for you to come back the Tulsa way again soon. Been listenin' and playing your music vinyl wise and guitar wise for the last 30 years or so. Can't wait to hear what your gonna say next. Travel safe bro.
Gina
Gotta tell you ~ I've loved your music since I was 14 years old & picked up my first guitar. Over the years I've enjoyed playing your songs to people who had never been privy to your sense of whit and humor. One day while accompanying my niece (who I raised for years) on a field trip to the La Brea Tar Pits in LA, a young kid had his guitar out there playing for tips singing "Spanish Pipedream" ~ much to the surprise of the other parents & kids in attendance, not only did I join in, but my niece kept hopping up and down from one foot to the other saying "my mom knows how to play that too!" I don't know that I could pinpoint a favorite ~ but Speed of the Sound of Loneliness - that's imbedded in my heart.
Keep strummin'

So I discovered John Prine when I was probably 2, 3, or 4 years old. My Mom and her friends listened quite frequently, in fact I remember playing harmonica to Prine songs with them when I was about 5 (1981'ish)...
Now my Mom's health is not so well, but the other day she says she was just dying to hear Angel From Montgomery.
Here is what she said; "I'd been singing Angel from Montgomery but couldn't remember the words. Then last night on the way home it was on the CD you gave me! (Souvenirs) I turned it up loud, played it twice, and sang along. It is the only song I can sing w/my voice this way. It was wonderful!"
She will probably not be with us much more than a couple of weeks, but she did request that some of her old friends and I get together if John makes it up to the NW soon.
Thanks for the great music, John!
Andy - UK
Hey John, BBC in the UK showed Daddy And Them last night. The best part of the film was you doleing out pearls of wisdom. You didn't get enough screen time!
Kaeley - Jackson, MS
I just wanted to say that you are one of my BIGGEST hero's other than my daddy. I am 21 years old I have been listening to your music all my life. I got to see you once here in Jackson, Ms. I think I was either 10 or 11 then. I was standing front and center and when you sang Daddy's little Pumpkin you sang it to me. It made my day. There was lady sitting on the stage with you that was amazed because I knew every word to every song that you sang. She came out and talked to me and then went a got me your autograph I have it in a frame on my wall. I wish you could come back around here somtime. My dad loves your music and when I was little we used to ride around on Sundays listing and singing your music. I know you get this all the time but I just wanted to let you know what an impression you have on young and older people. You are a legend in my heart and always will be. I wish I could have met you that day but maybe one day I will be able to. Love Always,
Cade
Thanks for the add...my music is in a totally different genre than John's, but I have been a dedicated fan of Mr. John Prine for years. He's just one of the greatest songwriters/singers/troubadors the world has ever known. I can't begin to describe the greatness of this man as a musician and as an artist. Don't even get me started on favorite songs. I could go on for hours. John Prine is a legend--always, forever. I'm proud to be added to anything even associated with him.

lookin forward to seeing prine for the first time, who is my choice for best singer/songwriter ever, and who also doesnt get near the respect he should from the general populace, which is sad because many accomplished musicians sing his praises, namely bonnie raitt. and if he's good enough for bonnie, then he's good enough for everyone. its a happy enchilada and ya think you're gonna drown. my parents raised me at the winfield bluegrass festival in Winfield, Ks and john prine was always a campground favorite.

John, Growing up in my home in WV, there was God, Family, and John Prine.... but I am still not sure of the order.

We are going to try and make your Kansas City tour. With my 100 year old mother in law who is also a fan.

My dad survived cancer twice after 2 major surgeries. You are an inspiration and you're music and words comforts me through ever challenge life throws my way... Thank you John Prine.
Tina
Thought I'd share a quick memory with my new "Friend"... In the last year I've become a great admirer of your music, even though I have plenty memories of my dad sitting in his garage listening to Sam Stone over and over again. When he would sing the line "Jesus Christ died for nothing I suppose..." I saw another side of my father that he kept well hidden. I guess your music has that power to transcend every emotion- laughter to pain. But what really brought me to you was after hearing Bonnie Raitt last year close her concert with "Angel from Montgomery" I loved the lyrics and searched and searched until I found out it was the same guy my dad was singing along with all those years.
Thanks Mr. Prine for touching my life and many others I'm sure!
A faithful fan, ~Tina
Mike
Mr. John Prine, I humbly ask you to be my friend on MySpace. I am new to this place, but a real old fan. I remember back in 1976 or so walking in a friend's house and saying Who IS that? ...it was you on the record player (Common Sense), went out and bought it and I have been a fan and follower of yours ever since. I would be honored. Thank you, Mike

I could write a book right here about all the ways you have inspired me. Let us suffice it to say that I will never miss one of your shows in or near my area. You da Man!

Thank you for being part of the soundtrack of my life. What a soundtrack!!! Warmly, Allison

"We hadn't gone far in my beat up old car, and I was prepared for the worst. Can I still see you tomorrow?, No I got too much to do. Well a question ain't really a question, if you know the answer too."
John Prine has gotten me out of more than one "pickle".
"Ain't it funny how an old broken bottle looks just like a diamond ring".
Well...John Prine is the real thing!
Sue
Yep he is my man, seen him 18 times over the years and am one of those obnoxious groupies who sings every word to every song...PEACE...Sue

This is so great. It is nice to know he loves hearing from his fans. He has so many of us in all walks of life. I had the great pleasure of taking my young son to see you in Jacksonville, Fl. when he was only three. He sang Whistle & Fishing the whole 2 hours home. He was a fan from as long as I can remember. His Daddy loved you for years so Chris just heard it for his whole life. During the concert we went outside during the plugged in part (I wanted to protect his ears but we could still hear it outside) He started talking to the truck driver and they really hit it off. Chris asked him how he hooked up the fifth wheel, which really impressed him. He looked at me and asked me how he knew what a fifth wheel was, I told him we own a bluegrass festival. Chris told him he had an awesome truck and he loved the candy apple red. Well they just kept talking. Chris finally asked him if he could have he backstage pass. The driver just laughed and told him that you sometimes invite people backstage after the show. Chris got all excited we went back in and enjoyed the rest of the show with a crowd that loved you as much as we do. You just kept playing till after midnight.
We would have stayed all night but they turned the lights on stage on you. It seemed to have upset you as much as us. So no one went backstage. It was a great, great night for all of us. It was so funny to me everytime the first note came out the crowd would scream. You would hear someone around you say that's my song! My favorite was Sam Stone I love the way you brought everyone a verse at the time. It was so cool I felt like in the chorus we were all right there beside you singing it with you. That was at least ten years ago and we still talk about it to this day. You have been such a huge part of our family for 30 years. Hard to believe it 's been that long but that's how long I've been married and you can along with my husband. Thanks so much for sharing your words and music with us all. I hope you are feeling well now and that we get to see you again soon.
If you every want to play in Ocilla, Ga at a bluegrass festival or in Fitzgerald at a theatre just let me know. I would be my husband’s hero for life if I could have you play here. Thanks again for being you,

Sometimes it's the guitar pickin',
sometimes it's the voice.
Other times can be a lyricist,
then again can be just the looks.
Darn it J.P. you got it all.

we played the university of Cambridge Saturday night and all these bright
young girls were coming up to the stage asking for songs off your first album!
We obliged them, thought you'd like to know.

I would like to thank you for all the words in your songs, cause if I could write songs those are the words I would of used. I first heard your songs from a man with to two first names, tom george, And to be honest with you I couldn’t stand it, for I listen to mostly hard and fast music, just a little angry songs. But as I listened to your words I began to really like your sound. So since then I have toned it down a few and I try to listen to every song you have written with a smile. Thank you again Mr. Prine you are now a big part of my life and you always seem to make every thing all right, In my head that is (haha).

So many great memories associated with your music from waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back. Though, it does seem like just yesterday.
Even our daughter, now 25, can fire into a spirited version of "That's the Way the World Goes 'Round." That one song alone helped us survive the teen years.
Many, many thanks for the great music, and for the addition.
Will look forward to seeing you when next you make it to the DC area.
Best!!!

Hi Reeda - - Well, we are getting a past JP show! Can't wait. I saw John at The Fillmore, Boise Idaho, and Knoxville Tennesse on the Fair & Square tour. We have a brand new Performing Arts Center in town and I asked the manager, Brenda Diaz, to bring John here. He's played at the university, Humboldt State U, several times over the years, always to a capacity crowd. The Center is breathtaking and I hope I see John from the front row. ~ Thanks for the shrine and the updates, Rodney http://www.arkleycenter.com/

I received John Prine concert tickets as a Christmas present this year for his show in K.C. Mo Feb 3rd. Was absolutely one of the best Christmas gifts I have ever received. And am anxiously awaiting the concert. Will be my first Prine xconcert though I have been a fan for many years.
Diane Murray - Ont. Canada
john I have loved you since I was 16. I have seen you many times.I have spent more time around a camp fire singing your songs then I can remember. Once I even wrote to the show "Thrill of a Life time", to get the chance to meet you. Funny, I imagine myself sitting at the kitchen table shooting the breeze with you like an old friend! So I did go to your last show in London and it was awesome! Like I always say "It was like spending the night with an old friend! " thanks John - YOUR OLD FRIEND, DI.

Looking forward to seeing you in Wichita, KS on February 2nd. I never thought I'd have the chance to see you in concert. This will definately make my tattoo (as shared on this website) much more meaningful.

Dear Mr. Prine,
I was introduced to your music at the same time that I discovered Steve Goodman and Guy Clark. A lifetime appreciation for singer/songwriters
has only gotten stronger over more than thirty years. Thank you for all of the music, emotion and entertainment that you have provided to the world.
On Feb. 2nd, I and my fiance will be sitting somewhere in the first four rows of the Orpheum in Wichita, Kansas. The reason that we will be enjoying your show together has a great deal to do with you, sir. Sometime ago I decided to try computer dating. I met a number of nice ladies but nothing ever felt right. On the day that I was to close my account and to end the experiment, I looked one more time at more profiles. One profile seemed to be interesting. As I read, the
question was asked, "Does anyone like John Prine?". Well, I had to answer. Even if it was just to chat with another fan.
Long story short, I met my "Everything". She has agreed to marry me
and we say of our mutual good fortune, " Thank God, Match.com and John Prine". We will be clapping harder and appreciating you louder than anyone else in the audience.
Thank you again.

Growing up in Iowa fifty years ago, in my teens I heard John Prine. Better than Bob Dylan by a longshot. I got to see him at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City and the old Paramount Theater in Cedar Rapids. I also was there at the Pantages in LA with Cowboy Junkies. John sings like my whole family talks, his lyrics coulda been our lives. He's even got the same sense of the absurd. I've been rooting for him most of my life, telling as many people as I could. Everyone I've shared his music with has went on to become rabid fans. Of all the concerts I've been to, John's is the one signature that has escaped my bluejean skirt. (All signatures go on to be embroidered). So, would love to see a California trip. If I can't get that, I'd agree with the guy in Alaska who wrote in , cause someday I wanna be an Alaskan, too.
Carolyn
I just wanted to say thank you for the song "Unwed Fathers".
For thirty years I have not said a single bad thing to my son's father.
In the beginning it was to keep the bridge open for my son. My son has
only chosen to cross that bridge once when he was 14 and then he was
finished the guy. Still I've kept my mouth shut. I can't tell you how
much I'd love to have a shot at telling that deadbeat off, just once. Your
song is the only thing I've ever heard that really speaks the truth.
Thanks again, I didn't drown in my half an inch of water, I'm a happy
enchilada!

Dear Mr. Prine, My older brother learned to play the guitar in the early 70's by practicing on many of your songs. I grew up singing along at parties to Grandpa was a Carpenter, Dear Abby and Please Don't Bury Me. In the years that followed, I not only lost track of you, but lost track of myself as well. A month ago, I put a cd in and listened with a smile as some old favorites came from the speakers. The cd? Will the circle be unbroken volume 2.
It was a warm trip down memory lane. Thank-You for the memories. Music, not my life, but coloring all the scenes. http://www.myspace.com/smitherooo

Subject: memories
My dad killed himself 6 years ago. He was never pleased with life but loved your lyrics. He would smile, hit my leg and say listen to this as he pushed rewind for the tenth time. That’s one of the few good memories I have of him. So. thanks. Hope to see you in K.C. on the 3rd.

you are a lyrical genius with the voice of an angel, i love your work. thank you for the inspiration.

I'm sure that you receive hundreds of emails from fans, but I wanted to let you know that your music has brought my father and I a lot closer. I am 25 years old and grew up with your music while buckskinning (historical camping). Well 18 years ago my father was paralyzed in a accident and things were kind of weird for a while. Well needless to say we got back to camping and back to listening to the pickers around a campfire butcher your songs. My father and I recently saw your performance in Omaha and I can honestly say it was not a concert but as previously said a 'performance'. I have see a lot of famous musicians but you have been by far the best! I just wanted to say thank you for the great music and for bringing my father and I back together again!

Hi, John, I have listened to your music most of my life, my dad is a big fan. He isn't as big of a fan as me, though! I met you at the Paramount Arts Center in 1995 (I think it was) when you were playing there...you snuck outside after the show, well, a long time after the show ... I waited for 2 1/2 hours just to say hi and get your autograph! I know that you probably don't remember, but you asked me what my favorite part about the show was, and I told you that it was your performance of Lake Marie. The reason that I am writing you is because I just wanted to let you know how much your songs inspire me. I have been through some pretty tough times since 1994, and when I listen to your music, it takes me out of the stress of everyday life. I won't get into the curve balls that have been thrown at me left and right lately because I know that everyone dodges those daily, some get hit by them, with me, I'm not so good at dodging them...they hit me square in the forehead every time!!! ha ha But, through my tough times your music has really kept me from going insane. I just appreciate you talent that you have shared with the world all of these years, and I make it a point to introduce your music to anyone who will listen... I believe it is better than therapy in most cases!! Anyway, I am a singer and songwriter too, and you inspire me to do that to. I just think that you are a wonderful person, and I feel like I know you just through your music...you make me smile through life's rough roads, and through the easy parts, too. Like I said, thank you for sharing your life with your fans, you are the most real, down to earth person, and it shows through your music....I love you John Prine...keep rockin' - your fan and friend, Cristy Marie Brockett

JUST WANNA SAY I HAVE YOUR BOX SET FROM OH BOY RECORDS AND HAVE SEEN YOU 11 TIMES IN CONCERT...YOUR THE BEST!!!a
John Byers - Michigan
What can I say, I've been a Prine fan most of my life. I
remember getting ahold of my brothers copy of Bruised Orange and Storm
Windows and listening to it at night on my head set. I was hooked. I
was about 10 or 11. I've bought tapes as soon as they would come out and
pick up the ones I didn't have. I've gone alot of places and done alot
of different stuff since then but I have always listened to John Prine.
I live in Michigan and am now 36 and never thought I'd get to see him
live. He is going to be in concert about an hour from where I live and
I have got tickets. I can't wait to actually see other John Prine
fans. Hope to see you there.
Lynne Chicago (originally)
I saw JP in Chicago in the late 70s at an out door concert sponsored by WXRT. WXRT was handing out box lunches. One of the things in the lunch was an orange. After tossing the orange around for a while with some friends I made my way up to the stage, and handed JP the bruised orange, and he gave me a kiss.To this day it is one of the highlights of my life. I have seen him since, once with the cowboy junkies., but nothing will compare to the bruised orange concert. Would love to see him in Ireland.
Lynne NC
I am trying to plan a trip to Ireland some time in 2007. Does any one know if, or when JP will be there? I would like to plan the trip around those dates.
Tom Rainey - Alaska
First saw John in a small venue in Washington D.C., in about
1974. I have caught him several times since, including once while
traveling through Little Rock, AR. Just happened to catch the announcement
that he and Arlo were playing that night. Would love to know if he
ever plans on coming to Alaska. I'll take him hunting, fishing, mushing,
snow machining, whatever he wants. Not to mention a row of tickets.
First heard John as a commercial diver, listening to Illegal Smile and
Sam Stone over our communications system while we worked.

sisters and there boyfriends introduced me to lots and thank god prine was in there also. van halen, reo speedwagon, ac/dc was the train all others were ridin but not me. couldn't understand why other 16 year olds didn't enjoy prine like i did, he was givin this teenage brain some enlightening.
curiosity drove me and my friend to kc for a ball game and a quick venture into the mall to find john prine's 1st album. never driven to the city before and wasn't suppose to be there anyway according to the parents. well there it was without hesitation my hard earned dollars was buying the album. now all i wanted to do was head home and listen but we were going to the ball game i headed there. i locked the car looked back into the car to see my new john prine album just sitting there wanting my attention but had to leave it behind --pretty darn sad.. off to the game i actually love to death but yep my mind was on playing that album. before we get to the gate i realize that i cant go to the game now i don't have enough money to get in the albums expense i hadn't planned for has me short and my friend doesn't have the extra. wow ok lets go home so our heads down (not mine) we head to the car,.get to the car ,catch a glimpse of my album, reach in my pocket, freak out when i see the keys dangling in the ignition. as all keys locked in the car dramas come to an end mine did too and before i knew it i was where i wanted to be at home listening and singing along like no other.
I'm 43 now and only once have i had the chance to see john prine in kc that was with jimmy buffett at sandstone he opened the show.my sister and brother with me there. volunteering to make the beverage run i stood in line just long enough to return for yep 1 one 1 song. i was there to see him not buffett. oh my oh my.....
its xmas time ,all the kids have there fair share,i just need to find that special gift for the gal . rarely do i venture off to far unless its work but today i travel again with a friend . first stop the head shop of course its a great way to start. rummaging through cd's i always end up at the P's and as always i go back to my first prine purchase.it moves me somehow and things happen. fair and square,in spite of ourselves, so there is a gift shell enjoy(me too). as i check out i notice on the counter a seating chart on the counter with listing of shows coming to kc. guess what i remembered .......prine is coming to kc in february and yes i bought 2 tickets for my wife and i for xmas. its been 27 years since i locked my john prine album in my car ...........im ready

Mike Haubrich, MN
My brother came home from the Navy in 1971. He brought back with him a Lafayette stereo and kenwod speakers and a bevy of records.all of which he had purchased at the Px. He was 20 and i was 12. I slept on the couch in our folks' living room, because he was back I had to give up my regular bed.
He was working at my uncle's farm that summer. He woke up very early that summer. At five o'clock in the morn he decided it was appropriate to awaken his little brother with the dulcet tones of Sam Stone, or Illegal Smile. I guess that by subliminal learning I became a fan at the age of 11.
My friends couldn't understand my obsession with Prine's music, and I was finally able to drag a friend over to listen. he is a Prine fan to this day.
Dave - Aberdeen Scotland
Great to find this site and to say a & heartfelt THANKS John - I've been a fan since the Old Grey Whistle Test (BBC TV) featured you around 1971. I got a copy of 'JP' album then and have sourced various albums since CDs came to be. JP songs are heard in some unexpected locations from folk pubs/clubs to remote climbers' huts in the Scottish mountains.
Beautiful collection of songs - thanks again - I must get to a gig one of these days!! Dave
