Name: Pat
My wife and I are really excited about your concert next week at the Troy City bank Music Hall! We wanted to see you 2 years ago when you were in town, but, alas, my wife, Judy had a previous engagement and left us really torn. The reason that I am writing is that I really hope that you sing "Inspite of oursleves". Judy and I meet over Match.com in may of '02. We sent emails to each other and taled on the phone for better then 3 monthes before we finally had a meeting face to face. A friend of mine at work played me Inspite of ourselves for me and said it was our song....and it is. We we're married on the beach in Maine in "04 and your song was our wedding song. And we still dance to it when ever we hear it too! If you do, could you please dedicate to my wonderful wife Judy please> Thank you, John. We can't wait to see you....in spite of ourselves. Happy New Year, Pat

I'm sure you wouldn't remember me - but we met back in the 70's at a little bar (The Elbow Room) in Harrisonburg, VA and we shared a couple of beers - Heinekens, I believe - before you got up on stage and played a set for us all (you had played that night at James Madison U.). I've always remembered that you were a helluva nice guy and it was a real pleasure meeting and talking to you. Another old friend from those many yrs. ago - Billy Skidmore - drove your equipment truck, I believe...anyway, keep makin' such wonderful music! http://www.myspace.com/rdrunner69

Hello John, You are my hero and I can safely say the same for my singing partner - my daughter! We adore you and love your music! I was a young aspiring songwriter (still am) many years ago and wrote you a fan-letter telling you how much I admire your songwriting because you write from your own experiences. Here I am doing the same thing so many years later. You have always been one of my music mentors. Please never stop recording your music...I always look forward to hearing your songs. Take care, John...! Have a wonderful Christmas and the very best to you in the New Year... Best regards

Sonya-Soldotna, Alaska
Hi, John I am a huge fan of yours and have been for years. I missed your concert in Homer, Alaska a few years ago. I was really bummed out, no one would cover for me at work. We saw you live in Duluth, Mn. quite afew years ago (8-10 years?). Paul Thorne played too- he was also very good and funny. We went to Duluth on a road trip with several other friend that were not familiar with you- They ALL loved you as well. My husband is a Vietnam Veteran, and we would both love to see you come back to Alaska. We have been here about 6 yrs and enjoy it very much. it's warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than Mn. I know you like to fish, and we have some of the biggest King Salmon in the world here in our back yards. So, John you need to come back here to AK. and we can whistle and fish together. I would love to see you live again, and it would be a dream come true to ever meet you in person- for both my husband and I. My Adult children also Love Your music. WE are HUGE fans... Love Your tunes. Sonya from Ak.

BULLDAWG DONNELLY/ save Sam Stone
Hello, We are in the midst of an epidemic of PTSD suicide right NOW! We are loosing 120 vets a week (17 a day). I have been and am working with COMBAT vets for over 20 years. I have real maps that lead to relief for our warriors. We NEED to MOVE now to refine our resources or become a nation of walking wounded. Mental health is contagious. . This epidemic will soon filter down to the families ( wives , children ,mothers ,fathers ,schools)and we will become a nation of self rejection more damaged than anything any terrorist organization could ever have hoped to accomplished. We have resources NOW available that need to be utilized. The means of repair will cost LESS than we all have paid for our yellow magnetic ribbons that say “support our troops.” If WE fail to act it will cost 10 times what we have paid for the automobiles we that we place the yellow ribbons on. If YOU fail to act , every time YOU see a yellow magnetic ribbon YOU WILL wonder. I have no book to sell only an alarm and a map out of our burning house along with a cadre of people who can help these vets to learn to do new things in new ways. I lost my only brother in Vietnam so I know the cost of war at home. We lost 5 times the Viet vets through suicide after they came home. I helped save many families from that fate .These Iraq vets are being consumed by a much more dangerous version of PTSD .If WE move NOW they can turn this setback to their advantage. I have resources and a cadre of people to plug into OUR trauma epidemic. Imagine a way to help as a drop of oil ,then WE drop this into a bucket of water ,the drop of oil fragments and spreads in concentric circles to the outer rim of the bucket.....it's called the oil spot theory .We CAN do this. I will continue to do this one vet at a time. I will continue to increase prevailing awareness of this problem and solution one request for help at a time. I will know when I see the yellow ribbons I am doing what I CAN DO. You will see the ribbons and be curious or know. Our consequences as a nation and culture are inescapable. Won't YOU help? Sincerely, Dennis A. Donnelly http://www.myspace.com/dennisdonnelly

Wanda Mullens - Ft Worth, TX
"I would like to invite you and your friends to check out my new song. It is called "Almost". http://wwww.myspace.com/wandamullens It was recorded on a radio interview show. It was just me and my guitar. It was inspired by the aftermath of the (911 tragedy). Every year we re-visit the terrible events of that day in remembrance of the darkest day in modern humanity. What about the loved ones that are having a hard time letting go. If they could speak, maybe this is what they would say. Check it out. Let's make this world a better place for everyone to live.

Just wanted to thank you for coming to Birmingham all these times over the years. And if you ever hit a dry spot and are looking for an idea for a song, I have a good story about WWII that was told by an old veteran. I wish I could write it, but since that's probably not going to happen, there is nobody else I've heard or know that could write it with the proper mix of humor and respect like you could. Thanks for all the great songs.

Gary Cagle Spring City, TN
I first became aware of John Prine's musin in either 1972 or early 1973 when I saw his first album in the ship's store . I was aboard the aircraft carrier USS America in the tonkin gulf of fthe coast of Viet Nam. I bought the album purely out of curiosity and immediately made a connection with him. I passed many hours listening to the vinyl, and since have purchased every John Prine album which has been released. I recently purchased the Full Johnny and have it all downloaded to my computer and make copies for myself, so as to keep the origionals in excellent shape. I really don't know how many times I have seen John in concert but my closest estimate is 17. I have driven many miles to catch his concerts, and had the pleasure of seeing him in concert when there weren' many people there. I used to think, and still do that I'm his biggest fan. I play and sing, and there aren't many of his songs I don't know. I've had the pleasure of introducing many of my friends to his music and we all sing his songs at any kind of party or pickin"s that we have. my only regret is that I have never been able to get a picture made with him. I have tickets to the Dec. 16th show in NASHVILLE. (Bough on presale, so I will be somewhere in the first six rows. If at all possible I would like to have that picture made. He is absolutely my favorite entertainer ever and has brought me many hours of listening pleasure

Steve Raley, Little Rock
John, I first saw you perform in Yosemite in 1985 and have admired your music since then. I play about 20 of your songs (yeah, learned one a year for 20 years...a little over 20). I adopted a little girl in China about 10 years ago and adapted "Daddy's little Pumpkin" for her and added a few phrases. I've enjoyed your concerts at Merlefest, Little Rock and Eureka Springs. Hope to see you in Little Rock in March. Keep up the good work and keep beating down the Bushies. We need you to keep getting the word out. Sure would love to sit down by the river sometime and pick together. I'm the lone fan club here.

Randy Lambert- Colorado Springs,CO
t was around 1976, and Common Sense had just come out. I was a student at LSU working at Friday's. I being a big fan had purchased my tickets for John's upcoming show. My friend and co-worker had risen to the level of waiter. Then came the news. John Prine was comiong. Somebody had his music cranked up loud when sure enough, he here came with a small group of four. He politely asked if something else could be played. As a songwriter/musician I can relate. Anyway, I got the oppurtunity to sit down and drink some beer with him. I was struck by his down to earth demeanor. I have seen him in concert since and am amazed by his songs. I always insert my bragging rights whenever his name comes up. rlambert8@gmail.com

Just saw the Dec. 8th concert at the Bennedum in Pittsburgh. What a great show! I missed you when you came to Hartwood Acres more than 4 years ago - I spent the night at the hospital. Last time I saw you was 1993-1994?, Mother's Day in Tempe, AZ. w/ the Cowboy Junkies. Great seats, great nite. Anyway, you started out with my all time favorite song, "Spanish Pipedream". My son knew that song when he was in the womb and he's 25 now. I plan on nagging him to play that for the mother/groom song when he gets married next year. It took us until 1995 but we got the house in the country, blew up the T.V., and the peach tree is trying! You also finished w/ my secong favorite song - Muelinburg(?) County, my ode to my "Granolaism, tree-hugging, squirrel-hugging, bunny-banging, whatever" idealist attitudes from growing up in coal-mining W.VA. and PA. and going to college in Northern Arizona as an Environmentalist. I took my beloved sister-in-law to your concert. She had never heard you sing before. She fell in love with you (as I did, passed down from a long line of Prine friends). But she unfortunately is married to a white, right-wing, Catholic Republican (my brother), and I really wanted her to hear either "Jesus - The Missing Years" or your infamous "Flag Decal" song. (Would have made her think). Regardless, she loved you and I did my job. I sang out loud to every song and cried when needed (your tribute to Chuck w/ "Hello in there"). Gave you yet another convert to your words, your music, your sarcasm, humor, love, and faith. My sis-in-law is downloading the appropriate songs. Thank you as always P.S. You were amazing on that stage! You never sat down, never took a break, never gave up the opportunity to "kick it up". Marriage is becoming to you! You were as always funny, articulate, and sincere as hell.

Chip - Nashville
hey so Im not sure who runs this site but, I wanted to say the I just moved to Nashville a month ago and while standing in line to see a movie I looked up to see Mr. Prine standing right in front of me..being is hes a legend and me a fan I thought it fun that I was standing right behind him..anyway, as I told people I know abouit it I started hearing other little stories of encounters with Mr. Prine and the reason I wanted to write this letter was to say that everyone has the nicest things to say. I hear tons of horid celebrity stories but with Prine all I have heard is sweet, really nice, kind things and so I wanted to say how glad I was of that...that he is how he puts himself out there to be and that if you ..whoever runs this site...knows him to let him know that people appreciate him and his goodhearted nature...that they say kind things about him behind his back. Thanks,

Gregg Nybo - Rockton, IL

Gwen - Mooresville, IN
Just wanted to thank you for you music. I've listened to it for a long time. My older sister got me hook on you when I was a kitten. I went to see you when you were in Indianapolis at the Murate. Best concert I've ever seen. You touch my soul and have a way of helping me see life in a totally different way. Just wanted to say, "keep on keeping on" and may Dear Abby live on forever!!! And quit often I use your words "Oooooh baby, it's a big ole goofy world". Thanks for allowing me to be your friend, maybe one day I will meet you in person and shake the hand of one of the most talented artist I've ever heard. Peace, Love & Happiness to all!

Carmen - Graceville, FL
Puttin' my mouth where my money is: Will go to court tomorrow on behalf a a hand full of old folks who have been exploited by the very people who have been rakin in the "frog skins" to take care of them. Will be hummin "Hello in There" in my head. If'n you ever think nobody was really listening...you're wrong. I've spent the last three years of my life sayin' "hello in there" and it's me going before the judge tryin to prove I had a right to and that they (our elders) had a right to hear it. I know this mail probably isn't really going anywhere but I don't care...does me good to send these words out into the ether in a binary bundle of half-assed righteousness. Perhaps your amused and twisted muse will read them and wish me, and most importantly those I represent, a fruitful mission. Peace and harmonies Singing Earth

James - Toronto, Ontario
Well my work is done for another season and as I sit here tightening my belt in anticipation of the long winter ahead I see John Prine on my tv screen acting in a movie called, Daddy and Them. Great casting job, he/you fit right in. Thanks for the musical inspiration and so many terrific tunes.....J.C. http://www.myspace.com/hamishmusic

OMG, You are my hero! My dad and uncle used to play your songs when I was little. Now, I own almost every one of your albums. Come to Columbia, SC or Charlotte, NC soon so I can come see you. The PBS show on Austin City limits was awesome! Your fan forever.

Meredith - Pittsburgh
Just left your Pittsburgh show. HAd an amazing time! You give a phenomenal performance. Thank you so much~ Have a lovely holiday. All Love,

tj roth
i spent more than a few nites pretty tipsy and maybe stoned (hell who remembers?) at the Earl. knockin back cold ones at a little table so close i could put my feet on the stage. drunk as i was a could tell he'd had more than a few too. it was a lot of fun, you could interact and sing back lyrics and heckle a little bit. Dear Abby comes to mind, but i cant recall if it was at the Earl or later at the Krannert in Urbana.

Brenda - Glenmont, OH
Hi, John, This story is not about me - it's about our good friend, Wally. Several years ago, Wally and his wife, Chris, gave us a John Prine concert DVD for Christmas. At the time, we did not really know of you. Since that time, we have watched and enjoyed this concert many, many times over. We were converted. A couple of years ago, we traveled to Cincinnati with Wally and Chris to see you in concert. It was a long drive, but well worth the trip. Shortly after our trip, Wally was diagnosed with throat cancer. He has since undergone successful surgery and all appears to be well, but you know the fears they will always live with. Wally also picks guitar and sings - his voice is a little deeper and gruffer than before, but we still love to listen to him belt out a John Prine tune. We will be in Columbus, Ohio to see you on February 23rd, somewhere in the first six rows. This will be Wally and Chris' fourth time. We'll be hanging out after the show. If I had only one wish, it would be to see Wally shake your hand. Just thought I'd let you know - we talked our local tavern owner into putting one of your CDs (In Spite Of Ourselves) on the jukebox. It is now the most played music in the place. Although Glenmont, Ohio is only a tiny pinpoint on a map, it's full of Priners.

Carmen - Graceville, FL
'tis my birthday and I'm sittin here this morning listening to the Prine Anthology...my present. After listening to it twice through last night with my friend Jim (Beam that is:) I've discovered that you've already said everything I want to say. *L* So I think I'll shut up this year. Gonna head up homeward to KY soon. Will wave at it for ya in memory of Paradise. :) Thanks for the gift of your words!! Carmen

Dan Kubala - Pittsburgh
Saw John in 1980 (or 81....many beers since then) at ODU. Played his songs on the streets of Perth, Austalia. Was invited backstage in 2002, but too drunk to meet him properly (sensing a theme here?) ANYWAY!!! Last show was with my late friend Larry. His widow, "Bug" and Brother In Law, Greg, will be at the show tomorrow....due to my own "Great Comprimise", I won't be....Someday, John, I'll shake your hand....until then, keep doin what you're doin! (This one's for you "Bake's")

William Carroll - Charleston
I've been a fan for years. My son Jeremy is a fan too, and nothing could make me happier. In fact, his first concert was a Prine show at the Opera House in Lexington. Jeremy turns 13 on 12/8 and wanted to see Prine again for a birthday present. Fate must have been listening as John is in Charleston on 12/8. We have 4th row seats and could not be more excited. If I had one wish, it be for John to dedicate "Paradise" (Jeremy's favorite song) to him during the show. It would be the greatest present he's ever gotten, or ever will.

Don
Saw John yeterday going through the Charlotte Airport, said Hi but plane was boarding for Cincinnati so couldn't talk. Would have loved to. Met him outside the Ryman a year ago. My wife and I are huge fans, have been since the 70's. Don and Trish

John: My husband Clay introduced me to your music when we met five years ago, and I'm so glad he did. We are a decade apart in age, but we both fully appreciate your music. We enjoy it so much that we used Glory of True Love as our opening song at our wedding this past summer. Clay turns 40 this month and we are attending your concert on Dec. 8 in PIttsburgh as part of his birthday celebration. Thanks for sharing your songs and your gift with all of us!

Paul Voelker-Costa Rica
JP- I was a very big fan of yours back in the early 70's and even had the pleasure of hearing and seeing you perform live in L.A. in 1973. Well, I moved to Costa Rica in 1975 and totally lost track of you and your music. Now that I am out of the rain forest and have acess to internet I've been able to listen to all your new music (the last 25 years that is!). Really glad you are still alive, and congratulate you on your career & that you've done so well. Keep singin' ! -Paul

Charlie C - Tennessee
Hey JP have the song cops pulled up outside yet? Nice to see you the other day.

Beth - TN
I've been listening to your music since I was twelve and my little brother used some of your songs to win forensic tournaments in highschool. You are amazing and I can say that I love your music. It has a very special place in my heart that I will always cherish. Keep on Tick'in

Dave Robbins, Tennessee
John, Just a quick thank you....you are one of the reasons why I write songs today. For that I thank you! Keep on writin' those songs. Dave www.DaveRobbinsSongs.com

Emily - Wasilla, Alaska
Mr. Prine! Ah, I'm a big fan. I grew up on your music and listening to the songs now that I'm older, I pick up on the subtle allusions...and the not so subtle ones! I'm from Alaska and I was at your last concert up here. I remember there were these 2 enormously fat brothers sitting in the seats in front of my family. You were just begining "Donald and Lydia" and you were singing "behind her small eyes sunk.." and just at this moment, the 2 brothers look at eachother and shout"deep in her fat!" Then the bust into a fit of laughter. It was very entertaining to say the least. Please come back :)

Nancy - California
Oh, yes!! You ARE seriously my absotively posilutely FAVORITE singer/songwriter. Long may you create & sing & visa versa!!! Was thrilled to hear you in San Luis Obispo a couple of years ago. PLEASE come back SOON! Live Oak Music festival (a benefit for public radio KCBX), hint, hint? Thank you for being YOU! Health & more power (the good kind) to you! A grateful fan, Nancy p.s. It's not just because you play/write so much in 'the peoples' key of G)...my key!!!

Scott Shust - Latrobe, PA
Mr Prine, The first song I ever played (poorly) for my wife when we were dating was "Dear Abby." When she responded favorably, I knew she was the girl I had to marry. Seventeen years later, we are now excited to be attending the show this weekend in Pittburgh. Thanks for the great songs and have a great show!

I'm writing this to let yoy know i'm one of your biggest fans. First of all I'm a liver transplant patient. When I was ill during those days your music saved my life many times as I was suicidal at times at certain points. When Jesus created you He reached into your soul and planted in you the wonderful gift of words and music. Days are even darker now. Just like Sam Stone I have falllen into heroin addiction and alcoholism. Right now I am listening to Lake Marie. I wish I could find that feeling of peaceful water....Maybe someday. Until then I'll take what I can from your wonderful gift of music. This is no small thing and I thank you for it. My wife and I saw you several times at Wolf-Trap in Virginia and once in our hometown of Wilkes=Barre PA. I'll close now. I just wanted you to know that your music has kept one person alive. No email address. If you would like to reply call (570) 817- 1363 JOHN PRINE and JESUS Christ two saviors of a different type, but both give life. Love and Respect Edward Lech Jr.

Growing up in Chicago, I enjoyed listening to your music. I had managed to make to the Earl of Old Town before they turned it into a Chinese eatery, I perfered the frosty mug and burger, with my music. It must have been a lot of fun. Your songs have really touched my life and I wish you and your family only the best. Thanks (Come Back to Denver)

Dear Mr. John Prine: I would really hope that you do get this. I went through some terrible times, losing my livelihood, foot, marriage and nearly my life, but your lyrics kept me going and your songs have been passed to a good many people who enjoy you as much as I do. You saved my mind and my life. I know you do not know me, but thank you.

Matthew Cole McCrosson, Lakeport, Florida
Mr Prine, I'm just a young buck and im not going to sit here and pretend I know you like a old friend. I was frst introduced to your music by an old friend by the name of Cliff Akin. When my wife was pregnant with our first child he sang one of your songs for me and it has stayed with me all this time. "Goofy Boy" I just wanted to say hi and thanks-

Hi John, I was wondering since you have such a great sense of humor would you like to be the first to buy my picture I just completed or even a print of my sexy, kosher jewish princess pig? John! I've been a big fan forever, but it took "In Spite Of Ourselves" to finally win my wife over into the 'Prineshine'. You've been quite an influence and inspiration to me in my 30+ years of songwriting. Just keep doin' what you do, Brother.

How many times have I said, "John Prine: A god in the pantheon of American songwriters"? You don't know, do you? A lot. I look forward to seeing you and Iris in a couple months in Chicago. Adios for now.

In August 2005, my safe little life ended as it did for so many others on the gulf coast.Katrina came, she left very little. The house was gone, every souvenir it seemed instantly erased.I didn't think it possible to ever smile again. Then a few days as I stared into the muddy mess that was once home , peering up at me from the mud was an old friend.MY PRIME PRINE CD , right at my feet.I took it with me to my new home, a travel trailer, cleaned it up and THAT SUCKER PLAYED AS GOOD AS IF IT WERE BRAND NEW. As always , it made me smile.I never enjoyed it more.I've been to so many John Prine concerts.I had every albumn. But alone with little more than my thoughts and one cd that night, it was so much more than music, it was comfort and hope.True souvenirs I realized are the memories and friendships we carry with us, things an ill wind can never blow away.

John, I forgot to mention that I worked as a clerk for a while at the Mayood Post Office (1969) and have been a carrier in Seattle, WA since 1987 (did a lot of traveling and had quite a few other jobs in between). Allso my email address came out wrong in the last post and I didn't know how to edit it. Here is the correct address: tgrafstr@hotmail.com

Tom Grafstrom
Hey John, I don't know if you remember who I am, but I grew up in Maywood with you. I went to St Eulalia while you went to Garfield. We met a couple times casually. Once I believe, at a party at Connie Madden's, the other time was at the park on 5th and Lexington where we were both shooting baskets. I lived right next door to Madden's in the big yellow house. Steve Prater lived on the other side of me. I hung around with a different crowd, but remember seeing you fairly often, usually on 9th Ave., going to or from school. Many times over the years I have thought of trying to get in touch with you and let you know I enjoy your music. I was just listing to a recording of you singing at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, and was very moved. I admire that you seem to be a very down to earth guy who genuinely cares about people. I always seem to miss hearing about your concerts here until it is too late to get tickets. Hope tp hear you live someday. Tom Grafstrom tgrafs@hotmail.com

I've heard John Prine for the first time about 2000 or 2001 on a TV show. Then I went to many music shops to try to find a CD, but I realized that here they don't bring Prine's CDs because he's not well know in this country. Lately I found many videos on Youtube and man...(as he says in Lake Marie) they're my favourites no doubt. Specially I love Suvenirs and the duets with Iris DeMent. I hope some day he could come here to play. Thanks for your music John!

We have a disagreement about Donald and Lydia. We wonder did the ever meet or is it just a shame that they never did meet? We are hoping John will settle the debate, and e-mail us at nichols-mike@hotmail.com.

Couldn't make it to the Tucson gig--was appearing in a play on the same night. However, "Fair and Square" continues to bring a smile to my face. My wife (then my fiance) gave me the CD while we were on vacation in Hawaii. She also surprised me by pre-arranging a wedding for us on the same trip. Therefore, "Fair and Square" became the musical background for my honeymoon as we drove the canyons and coastlines of Kauaii. I can't listen to the songs without dreaming about Hawaii--that may not have been the intention of the recording, but that's how it works for me.

David - Pittsburgh
John, I was very privileged to hear you play at Rockefeller's in Houston, TX. It was one of your last shows with Steve, and because I am also a big fan of Steve Goodman, this was a very memorable show for me. But what made it even more special for me was that you did a double-take when you walked out, then walked over to the left side of the stage where I was sitting and you said "I thought you were my baby brother." Well, that made me laugh and I thought it was funny to have you address me from the stage. It was a big moment for me that I will always remember. See you in Pittsburgh in December!!!!

John - Pittsburgh
Hello John, My wife I are huge fans and have been eagerly awaiting your return to Pittsburgh. In fact, it will be our 17th wedding anniversary the night of your Dec. 8th concert. A Todd Snyder opening capped with what I'm sure will be a delightful evening enjoying your music. Indeed, the table has been set for the makings of a special anniversary with my very special wife (Shauna). Happy Thanksgiving! John

Just a thank you for all the years of great music. The world would be a lesser place without your songs, lyrics and insights. I own every one of 'em, either on LP or CD. Again, thank you...

Nathalie - United Kingdom
You bring a smile to my face. I love the songs you write and I like to sing along. I pick up my guitar and play them too sometimes."Storm Windows", Sam Stone", "People Putting People Down" and "They Ought to Name A Drink After You" are amongst my favourites, but I love them all really. I'm so sorry I missed this last London gig, because of a hornet! So, please don't be too long coming back. Lots of Love

Jennifer Green- Atlanta, GA
Just wanted to let you know I've been listening to you for all 31 years of my life & have never enjoyed it as much as I do now. Thank you for the heartfelt lyrics & all the wonderful songs over the years. My dad used to play in a bluegrass band and one of my most favorite childhood memories is of myself playing on the floor beside the bar at Miss Kitty's Saloon in the old underground Atlanta- early 80's late 70's- listening to my dad singing Sam Stone & Please Don't Bury Me. I didn't understand the words to Sam Stone then, but they sure are part of my soul now. Your music touches the souls of everyone who hears your it- thank you for being who you are! Much love & respect,

Gary Shapcott-Dallas Texas
I first heard your music in 1975 and have been a fan ever since. It was your singing and voice that made me pick my guitar up and play. One of my first songs was, Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore, and Hello In There. I am 52 years old now and my one wish is to see you play in person. Thank you for all the great words you put into your songs and I pray you stay cancer free...Please come to Dallas soon. P.S. HELLO { Ancient ass} LOL

i hope to see you in concert one day. No matter how late it gets on the weekends you can always find my dad his best friend and me playing guitar to your songs and singing. you have inspired me greatly.thank you

Dear John, It always makes me laugh to type a "Dear John" letter so it's totally worth it to type you a note on my new birthday present. It's a Dell Inspiron 1501, and I was about ready to toss it out the window trying to figure it out today. I just turned 52 on the 8th!! Yahoo. I'm happy to have lived another year. We love your CD with Irish Dement. She has a beautiful voice. I am part Irish and part Cherokee and a little other stuff. Keep on singing You make a lot of people happy!!!! From get a life, Delta Lady, Deborah (lady that met you at show at Chataqua in Boulder at the Hotel Boulderado about 17 years ago. I was breastfeeding our now 18 year old "Maggie" in the car & my husband went into the bar because we had hear that you hung out there after shows. Whewww...I ran up and said "You're music had gotten me through a lot of hard times" and you said "I appreciate it". My husband has never let me live that one down. We've been married 27 years. Yours in Christ, Deborah Prowell

I just have to say I love all your music. My dad turned me on to it yrs ago and I've loved it ever since. I look forward to seeing you in Pittsburgh on ..h. Thank you for the great music!!!

Linda - Rockford, IL
Dear John, My friends and I have been to about 5 of your concerts in the last 20 years. The first time I saw you was when you showed up at a Nancy Griffith concert in Chicago. Anyway, we found out about your Feb 8, 2008 concert in Chicago about 3 days after the tickets went on sale. Can you believe it was already too late to get good tickets? All the good reasonably priced tickets were gone. Of course, they are on sale on ebay and at the websites for 3 times the face value. Could you pleeeeez consider doing a concert in Rockford as long as you will be in the area? This would be so great and maybe we can actually luck out and get tickets before the scalpers buy them all up! We have seen you in Rockford before and we have lots and lots of John Prine fans here! Thanks. Linda

Katy - USA
Hey There...When are you comin' back to St. Louis? I am jonesing for that happy/sad feeling that only an John Prine experience can deliver.

Diane - Prescott Valley, AZ
Saturday Nite Phx AZ - Mr. Prine, Well, I hope you found that your truck wasn't towed when you were done playing at the Orpheum Theatre on Nov. 10, 2007. It was such a treat to be able to talk to you out in front of the hotel (with you standing there...hot soup in hand). Our tickets were way back in the 26th row, but then as we were dining before the show... A couple who had flown in from Wisconsin to see your show and sitting at the table next to us...gave us two tickets to sit in the front row of the PIT!!! What a truly magical night, you're even better now than when I saw you in downtown Chicago back in 1979...thank you so much for many years of musical storytelling. Keep up the great work! Blessings, Diane ( a 48 year old woman, who felt like a star-struck teenager for a night!)

Jerry Redmond
Many years ago---1978 to 1981---I lived for a few years up in Cortland, NY. I've always had musicians as friends, although I have no musical talent myself, and so I'd quickly met lots of the local musicians, most of whom would do gigs in local bars. They mostly wrote and played their own songs but whenever I heard a really GREAT tune I'd ask if they wrote it and every time the answer would be the same, "No, that was written by John Prine." So I figured I'd better buy some albums by this fella Prine and I did and I became a big John Prine fan. I was working up in the Smith-Corona typewriter factory at the time running milling machines. Factory work is a grind---literally, if you're running milling machines like I was---and the place was noisy and smelled of cutting oil. So I'd wear these hearing protectors---looked like big ear mufflers--- and I discovered that if I sang out loud to myself it sounded like a radio inside of them and that I actually didn't sound half bad. So I learned the words to a bunch of John Prine tunes and sang them all night long up till the end of my shift at midnight. To this day I credit John Prine's music with helping me to keep my sanity in that place. I was about thirty years old then and I'm almost sixty now and I still listen to John's music in my car every day of the week. I think he's the best song writer America has ever produced.

'Dear John, I have been listening to you for a long, long time. I was dating my now wife back in 1971 or 1972 when we both saw you on PBS while you were playing at some festival. You did Dear Abby and The Great Compromise. I had just discovered Kris a year or so earlier. I told Kathy that I had to get your record and we found it at, of all places, a department store in downtown Jacksonville, Fl. Kathy and I married in December of 1973 and over the years we had 5 kids. I have rocked many a baby to sleep singing one of your songs. They are all grown, but we now have adopted 3 of our grandkids. The oldest, Cory, could sing "Illegal Smile" by heart when he was only 3. If I would have filmed it and sent a copy to Hollywood, he might have made his old grandpa rich. So your legacy is living on. We have all enjoyed hearing your music over the years. Kathy and I are coming to you concert in Birmingham on December 14. Our anniversary is on the 15th, so what better way to celebrate it? This is going to be a truly special anniversary. Kathy was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after the start of this year. She actually found the lump on last Christmas Eve night, but kept it all to herself so we could all have a happy Christmas. She went through a double masectomy at the end of January, had several months worth of chemo and finished her radiation this July. She has been through a lot and I just thank the Lord I still have her with me. She is the only girl I have ever loved and I cannot imagine life without her. I purchased my tickets during the early buying period so I hope we have good seats. I wanted to ask you a special favor. Is there anyway you could dedicate a song to her? It would mean so much to both Kathy and to me. I know you probably get a lot of requests like this and will understand if you cannot. Well, take care and we will see you in December. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Garry, again...still in Havasu
My wife reminded me that the fans name was Barbara and not Donna, from Seamus McCafferys in Phoenix!! Her husbands name was Michael and his pal was Whitney....thanks Kimmie!

I first heard Sam Stone sung by Joan Baez the night I graduated from high school while sitting in the bathtub in 1971. I've been a fan ever since. Your songs have gotten me through good times and bad. I saw you on Saturday in Phoenix and I've lost track of how many times I've gone to your concerts. It's covered almost 40 years and three states, innumerable boyfriends and broken hearts, I converted my sister to be a fan when she was still young and it's one of our strongest bonds. My husband understands that any time you come to Arizona we're going. Thank you John for all of the music, the laughs and for being such a big part of my life.

Garry Fish - Lake Havasu City, AZ
Hey John, Thanks so much for lettin' me sit in on Paradise at the Orpheum in Phoenix Saturday night!! Man, that brought back some great memories!! Kim and I closed Seamus McCafferys after the show and met some great fans. I hope you and Fiona have a great vacation and We love you guys so much!! See you soon....

My sister got me the Steve Goodman book for my birthday last summer, it's great! I sure wish he was still around.. Hey John, you comin' to Minne-sota???

Nancy in Lake Havasu City, AZ
My husband and I loved the concert in Phoenix Saturday night after being fans since the early days. Our children have grown up with your music and think everyone should know about John Prine. My son's favorite song at 3 years was "People Puttin People Down" He's now 24 and we just found out last year that he thought you were talking about physically picking up people and setting them down again. Thanks for making our lives so much richer with your poetry, humor and music.

Deb in Phonix
Last night's concert in Phoenix was wonderful. I just wanted you to know that your song "We're Not the Jet Set" was the opening number at my wedding reception on 7-7-07. Thanks for all the stories and convoluted rhymes.

Hi John, I just thought I'd drop you a note to tell you how much I enjoyed last night's concert. You were really sounding good, (Ringo's cough medicine?) and it was a really enjoyable show. It's been too long between shows in Tucson. I was at the last one a few years ago at the University of Arizona's Centenniel Hall, you did a solo acoustic thing that night. I hope we will see you again soon.

Dan Burke - Pittsburgh
(refrain) Where have all the Prophets gone. And have you seen my old friend John? It’s so noisy I can’t hear. I need a quite place to steer, this ship of mine that you call time. And where have all the Prophets gone? Noah was a friend of mine. He built a ship to withstand time. Gathered life from to and fro, And spread it on the earth to grow. Muhammad you know, had it right, But they can’t hear and have no sight. The last of them you know they say, But who would know, With all the noise they play. And… (refrain) Ron Paul is a friend of mine. His voice from Houston, It does rhyme. But they won’t hear it anyway, With all the noise O’Bama plays. John too was a friend of mine. He speaks in echoes from my mind. In Dallas Texas he left us here, to ponder questions we all fear. And…. (refrain) That Indian guy, you know the one. Who cried a tear from all the scum. Will it ever be the same, we’ve come so far now anyway, A Planet full of hope I see, and it all belongs to you and me. That Irish guy you know the one. Who spoke in commons, when we were young. He said it all you know. To fear, The evil when good doesn’t steer. And… (refrain)

first heard of you while in italy 1975, been listening ever since have nearly all of it, turned my wife on to you when I met her in 1982 she also loves it, recently we were standing in kitchen talking she said "I want to go see John Prine before I die" we have tickets for Birmingham, Al. 14 Dec, wish you would speak to her and shake her hand we love you also, have you ever thought of maybe a tour with John Hiatt, and John Mellencamp Could call it the Big Johns or 3 Johns That tour would fill my life with the 3 favorite

Francine- Chicago
Just like eveyone else here, I am unique... and a lifelong John Prine fan. Although I have tix for the Chicago & Whitewater concerts, I wish you would play some smaller venues, too. I first saw you at the late, great Steve Goodman's Somebody Else's Troubles and I loved the upclose and personal side you were able to show there. Don't get me wrong, I am really looking forward to seeing your concerts, even in a crowd. But, maybe a home town gig at a local watering hole would be fun for you too! Love ya John!

Dara - USA
"Hey John, Love your music! You don't remember when I shook your hand in Knoxville but my friends tell me it is time to wash my nasty hand. But I tell them it is my picking hand and it has become sooo full of talent that something bad might happen if I do."

Christina in Texas
I heart you bunches :) You know in that musical, appreciation sort of way and not that creepy messed up sort of way. *winks and grins*

Rhonda - Arkansas
I, like everyone else on here have a deep love and appreciation for you and your music. I can't put into words what you music means to me. I too have been a fan since the mid 70's. I even bought a guitar and took lessons because of my love for the intro to Souvenirs. I later discovered that it wasn't just you but Steve Goodman so matter how much I practiced I could never get it. My favorite lines "broken hearts and dirty windows make life difficult to see, that's why last night and this morning always look the same to me" that is a brilliant line. "Hello in There", "Donald and Lydia" and it goes on and on. You have a bunch of loyal fans. Whenever I meet someone and ask if they are John Prine fans if they say "Yes!" we have an immediate bond. If they say, "I have never heard of him" then I say "well let me turn you on an amazing singer/songwriter". I have made sure my teenagers listen to you but I am not sure they "get it" like I want them to.

As A Vietnam Veteran I have always wondered if you ever realized just how significant 'Sam Stone' was to us. As I approach this difficult time of the year again with all eyes turning towards those who died in battle, I wanted to pause and thank you. Peace

Jacksonvill Fl Calling Out Again - - - Mr. John Prine- When are you gonna make aother apperance in Jacksonville, Fl? I had the great opportunity of taking my sister and parents to see you for my birthday the last time you were here. Even though the drunk guy in front of us kept screaming out "Sam Stone" he did let us look through his binoculars.... Great music, good stuff. I was introduced to your picks about 7 years ago at a deer hunting camp and have spread the word many times over. Even my girlfriends get adjusted and have surprised me a time or two when they put in one of your cd's and know some words to it. Hope you will come on down to Jax. Check out my sisters music myspace page "Teri Coutu". Still working on her doing some JP covers - but that may take some time. She has been writing music since she was 8 " a place where I belong" was her first. Thanks for putting music to feelings that we all share from time to time......

This is actually a question and I may be absolutely totally off. Years ago a friend of mine played me a song that contained lyrics like this: ....Roll 'em up a snack-a that nice tobacca', somethin' that the baby likes. Smokin babies... It was like a humorous song that said when your kids are crying, maybe they just need to smoke a joint... For some reason I have it in my head this is a John Prine song. If it is, can someone tell me which one? If it's not but sounds familiar, can you tell me who it is/what the title is? This was such a fun song. (*note from jpshrine - it's not a Prine song - and I have no idea who wrote it - sorry)

John - a bit late with this thank you ...... but thank you anyway for a fantastic show in Glasow at the RCH. Words can't really express a Prine show other than "sheer emotion" Thanks again and come back soon

Hello John, Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed your shows in Treorcy (South Wales) and Liverpool U.K. Long may you continue to play! I have a poster from your "Fair and Square" Tour 2005 (Birmingham Symphony Hall) and it would be wonderful if I could get you to autograph it after the next concert I attend. I was lucky enough to have Dave and Jason sign it after the Liverpool show. Great guys, great players. Warm wishes for your continued success. info@ChuckMicallef.com

Been listening to your music for over 25 years. Every time I get stuck at a four way stop i think about you. I sang that song to my daughters as we sat at a four way stand off a few years ago and turned on a new generation of listeners to your music. Great to hear your still at it and sounding fine.

Hello from Iraq Mr. Prine I am sitting in iraq lucky to be near a computer and I just wanted to tell you your music is keeping me sane, I have been listening to your music for a while now, my father turned me on to the good tunes like yours and kieth sykes music. Well I am going to try to catch a show when I get back in 5 months because the lack of live music could kill me faster than being in iraq for a year. Take it easy

Well, I have been hanging with folks who often play your tunes. We are sometimes in a song circle or around a campfire. When I saw you'd be playing at the Cerritos Center I didn't think twice about it. I got a ticket! I sat 3 rows back and damn what a great concert! I am a bit of a live music junkie- I have seen many performers in many genres but mostly folkish. And your concert was topnotch. You are a good performer- fun to watch, voice is clear and true and your support band is awesome. Dan Reeder was a kick too! I can hardly wait to get a bunch of friends to come out to see you next time you are around... You rocked!

I can not possibly thank you enough for all the quality time I have spent listening and singing to your music.. Thanks Buddy Brian

I have been a fan of yours my whole life. My father and I would sit outside on warm Florida nights and he would bring his guitar out back and we would sing your songs. My favorite was always "That's the way that the world goes round". Now that my father has passed away, I find comfort in popping in your "Great Days Anthology" and listening to the songs we used to sing. Thank you for all of your great music and for making precious memories possible.

John - Years ago, when I was 21 and a surfer girl living in California a guy from Georgia moved into my apartment complex in Newport Beach. He looked just like popeye and was a decade longer than I was - but he introduced me to your music. It was great. Years later, I married a musician and a few years back we moved to Nashville. Hope to see one of your shows at some point but just wanted to say thank you. Dana

You might like knowing that among Sitka, Alaska's trolling fleet, you have quite a few fans- It's amazing how music makes a difference- you're trolling along, all the lines hanging, and you're ready to anchor up early and mix a good stiff drink, then somebody puts In Spite Of Ourselves on the CD player, the outside speakers blast them 'ol heartfelt songs sternward- Deckhand in the cock pit starts singin', Skipper's singin',, energy changes! A line starts jumpin', another... we're in the middle of a Prine-Palooza salmon clatter! Later, we wait our turn to sell at the buying barge, that's anchored in some little cove, Prine still playin', and the fish buying college kids are lovin' it! The only other two singers who call fish are George Jones, and Ray Stevens. You're in good company!

Dear John, Famous in unexpected places - for a couple of years I ran a Music Pub in the North of Germany. WE HAD MUSICIANS FROM ALL OVER EUROPE ENJOYING THEMSELVES AND PLAYING IN OUR PUB: EACH OF THEM HAD AT LEAST ONE OF YOUR SONGS IN THEIR REPERTOIRE AND THEY WERE REAL FANS OF YOURS AND STILL ARE: MANY OF THEM STATED THAT YOU INFLUENCED THEM. I must admit I also became a fan of your music, I live German Afternoons. One of your greatest fans and vivid admirers is Leo Gillespie, a very good friend of mine and an excellent musician. If you have the time check out his music on My Space. Hoping to hear from you

Please come back to Melbourne, FL or Ormond/Daytona! Dear John, my husband and I love your music and have all of your music that we know of. We saw you in Melbourne, FL a few years ago and you were awesome. We love your stories in songs and between songs too. My husband has been a fan since the late 70s and saw you in Kentucky several times. I especially like your CD In Spite of Ourselves. Keep those tunes coming!

Finbar Magee - UK
hi john i write a bit - just finished my first album when all hell broke loose in my life - just coming out of that. a few years back i was in a bar singing at a session when someone commented that i wrote like you - at that point i had heard of john prine but never heard him. so i went out and got 2 of his albums - great - i could see some similarities though right now i'm very much in the lower division. if ye ever get 5 mins with bugger all to do - (maybe you've got the john wired) - a listen would be appreciated - perhaps "roxy my botox beauty" - i know the chance is little but it's a chance - here she goes on a whim and a prayer - thanks for the music anyhow http://www.myspace.com/finbarmagee

I grew up with your music! I found you when I was between a girl and a woman. Your lyrics have always touched me. Sam Stone as a junkie clean for 16 years now. Killing the Blues has been my get out of a funk song. My second husband and I saw you several times at Robinson Center here in Little Rock and hoped we would see you trout fishing in Northeast Arkansas. I will probably never meet you, but you are an old friend!! Thanks for enriching my life with your words............Carol

God bless you, John and Lucinda and Steve Earle and why don't you ALL come on back to Glasgow sometime soon and play all night. Great show in Glasgow - good turn out spoiled by totally mushy sound. Hey John - do yisself a favour. The yardage of mixing desk is only as good as the pony-tailed t**t that uses it. I don't think this guy understood what GOOD SOUND QUALITY is. All the same great to hear stacks of great tunes. If anything the electric session was a littlew too loud following on from the crystal clear guitar work and singing of yer man JP. But then again it's just great to hear him over this side of the pond again. Thanks

Morgan
John Just a quick thank you for putting on such a great show in Glasgow last night; it was a terrific set and you managed to play all my favoutites! By the sound of your standing ovation, I was not the only one who thought so. Please return SOON!!!

Jeremy L. Howell - Louisville, KY
Thank you from Louisville, KY - Mr Prine, I just wanted to extend my thanks for one of the best concerts I've ever attended. Though it was a little while ago, at the Palace Theatre, I figured better late than never. I've never been to a show where the artist was give a standing ovation for more than half of the songs played, don't get me wrong though, it was definitely deserved. A very powerful night in my memories, and once again thank you.

John - thanks for all your great music - for lighting my path with it and the paths of so many others. You're a hell of a good guy. In case you haven't heard already, the whole human family is in for an unprecedented treat on a major scale. It's time for peace, for power to the people, and global cooperation. Say what? you might be wondering- Well grasping the story before it all happens isn't for everyone, but you might want to try. http://www.Share-International.org If you look at a few pages at least even in total disbelief, you won't be taken entirely by surprise. All the best, John

Tara Knorr - Gulfport, MS
Hey John Prine, I'm from Gulfport, Ms. I'm a big fan and I'm a singersongwriter type. I use to cover Sam Stone in a trailer on the beach that was a cool little bar on the Mississippi Gulfcoast called "T.O.'s". It's gone now but I have fond memories of playing that song there. My favorite movie of all time is Daddy and Them. I didn't recognize you in it at first. I bought it and watch from time to time still. You did such a great job in that film. Gotta love that cymbal playing monkey. Just wanted to let you know I'm a big fan and would love to see you in more films. Are there any out there that I don't know about. I love indie music and films but don't always have the time to hunt them down. Big Fan, Tara Knorr

Mikey - Bellingham, WA
Hello Mr. Prine, My name is Mikey. My boss Tim, recently turned me on to your music, and I'm very glad he did. Tim went to see you play at the Mt. Baker Theater in Bellingham, Wa. earlier this year and asked me if I wanted to come along. I told him I couldn't make it that night, And he said "you'll be sorry!". A few days later he lent me a copy of "Anthology". When I listened to it I was very, very, disappointed that I missed your show. I bought myself a copy the next weekend and I play disc 1 about 4 times a week. Tim, myself and a few others from work get together on Wed. nights in the lunchroom at work and play bluegrass/ folk/ acoustic kinda music and one of your songs will always come up. Your songs like, Please Don't Bury Me, Paradise, Illegal Smile, In spite of Ourselves, A Big Old Goofy World and many more have helped shape the way I want my own music to sound . If Your ever in Bellingham again look up the Woodstone corp. you have a few HUGE fans and you would be very welcome for a tour of our small factory. We make the finest stone hearth ovens in the world. Another thing thats kinda neat is we have 15 or 16 people out of about 75 that play different instruments. Well, I hope I have conveyed how much your music means to me. I also want you to know that I will break off of ANYTHING to see you play if you come this way again!

Mick - LA/OC, CA

I not able to afford to buy your songs anymore, but I would like for you to know that you are one of my favorites and have been for many, many years. I realize you never actually visit other profiles because of a busy schedule, but it surely would be appreciated if you would visit mine just to sign my guest book. I saw you once many years ago in Louisville, KY and have felt as if we were actually friends. You told me you were a mailman at one time in Chicago. If you had known me longer I'm certain we would have still been friends today. I still send mp3 files to my daughter today and she is always pleased to hear them. I pray that you are around for a long time after I am gone and are always able to continue with what you do best. My best regards always,

Queen Songmum - OR

john prine! one of my favorite people wanna know why? BECAUSE! it was 1971, my friend ray had just gotten home on leave from the navy. he joined the navy because he got my girlfiend pregnant before i started going out with her...she didn't know it yet...home on leave, drinking canadian ace ale, listening to donald and lydia...i think we both had tears in our eyes. just hear the moon is down for the first time...i hope this finds you starry eyed and laughing>>>>>>>..ireland? nice place, if you're not a catholic or a protestant. (it's a joke) then it was 1980. dad had just been diagnosed with cancer...he was waiting for the ambulance, drinking scotch on the front porch with my cousin frank and we waited for 4 hours. the scotch was gone when the ambulance arrove, it took four shots of valium and two of morphine to kill his pain that night, and he damned near died. they had to revive him. real songs for real people, exactly. it was august...when dad was diagnosed...i listened to mexican home as a prelude to friday night at the bar drinking vodka for years after that...i'd get out of the shower, out the record on, then head out. "my father died on the porch outside on an august afternoon...." how more apropriate can it get? then i'd flip it over and get in the mood...onowhatchamacallit.

Gary "Ram" Ramsey - Easley SC
Dear John, I always knew that I was a big fan of yours but it became very apparent last Thursday. While driving down the highway another fellow decided he liked my lane more than I did so the end result was my pick-up truck being flipped over and eventually came to rest on it's side. After climbing from the wreck and seeing that my truck was destroyed but realizing at the same time that I hade made it, I then noticed all of my John Prine CD's scattered and scratched all over the road. My first reaction to this whole tragedy was that I had lost all of my Prine music !!! The second was, I really liked that truck. I am in the process of replacing them both so you keep making 'em and I'll keep buying 'em. "You don't know how lucky you are, you could have run into a tree, ..." Best wishes, Ram

Hey John, Last September my girlfriend and I tried desperately to get tickets to your show in Halifax, Nova Scotia but you were sold out and I was extremely disapointed. She surprised me for my Bday with tickets to your Passim show in Boston in March and was well worth the 12 hour drive to see. You made our year and was the best show I've ever been to. Get your ass back to the Maritimes asap please.

Hei, John Prine. I am an old norwgian musican and poet, and I must say I have lent my ear to youre melodies and y lyrics for years. I have a band i Norway called "Jan hagen & bivirkningene." In english something like "JH & the sideeffects..." I have done a translation and a little ree-arrengement on one of y songs "aint hurtin' nob." Sertenly not recorded, but it swings like hell. One day I send you a live-version from me to Mr. John, in norwegian. It's called: "Jeg hakke gjort noe gæærnt" Vel, vel. If you are interested I need a mailadress for the songsmp3. Or we go on stage in Arambol in Goa, India in desember. I'll be there. Come to think about it; I have "stolen" an translated an other song, that I do as an acustic number, with Lee Oskar on a brace around my neck. Just want to say hallo. You are John and I am Jan. Have a nice whatever.... http://www.myspace.com/janhagenleeoskar (My english spellings is not that good, but y'll understand.)

Dear Mr John Prine. Your music impressed me enormously.

September 2007

I was introduced to John Prine's music some 37 or 8 years ago. he has been my favorite musician ever since. First Prine concert I went to was in Seattle. The enthusiastic fan behind me spilled a bottle of wine down my back. I waited for intermission so as not to miss a beat. I have always loved the quirky lyrics which are so off the wall and poignant at the same time. The second time I saw John in concert, I did not even know he was in town. I drove past a small club and hit the brakes when I saw "John Prine tonight." My date and I walked up to the door and were met by a bewildered couple who had been stood up by friends. We bought their extra tickets and walked right in. John was sharing the spotlight with the Uncle Bonsai Trio (a local Seattle group) I fell in love with my husband when I walked into his office and heard John's voice on his tape player. I said: "You're playing John Prine." and my life has never been the same since (it was a good thing) The most recent concert I have managed to see John was in Portland MAine. It was the first time I had heard the song, SOme humans ain't Human. The couple sitting next to us got up and walked out. Everone else stood up and cheered. I cannot possibly estimate how many driving miles I have had John keep me awake. There are a few songs I have not heard in a long time. One had lyrics including "Robert was a sailor." This my husband RObert is a sailor I have always had an affinity to that song. My husband is fighting advanced lymphoma. WHile he is still able I would llike to get him to somehow meet John. He describes John as being the greatest lyricists of our time. I hope that John will show up in the Northeast in the next year and I am trying to figure out anyway to get back stage to help my husband realize this wish he has to meet John. After all "Dreaming just comes natural, like the first breathe of a baby." Until then I will listen to John on my daily commute, and

I used to pull weeds for Johns mother "Cotton" Prine. She paid me with 1 dollar a soda and chips. Once his father gave me an 1890 indian head penny I still have. It was either John or his brother that once got frostbite walking a block to high school.

Hello: I was introduced to John Prine by my brother about one year ago. He was playing the song Spanish Pipedream and when I heard "eat a lot of peaches" I was hooked. I bought the CD John Prine and played it constantly every day. I have since bought everything Mr. Prine has put out {to my knowledge] and I go to sleep every night with one of his CD"s playing. I have both of his DVD's and watch them all the time. I would love to see more DVD's of his live performances and was wondering if there are any plans in the works to come to Canada specifically Nanaimo British Columbia. We have a beautiful theater here called the Port Theater. It seats 800 and the acoustics are second to none. To me John Prine writes and sings from the heart and his humble demeaner is an inspiration for me. I truly mean it when I say there is no one like him and I look forward to hearing and seeing more of him. Respecfully yours

rick - vancouver,bc

late 70's we got tickets to a john prine concert, oops trouble ahead the theatre where HE'S going to play, has some strike talk amongst the union types that work in this place[queen elizabeth theatre] I beleive.Sure enough the unthinkable happens the theatre is shut down.As it turns out JOHN is already ahead of the game.He has rented the ball room at a local hotel so in we go and find a seat[ you know one of those you find in rented halls] HE'S on this little raised platform somewhere in front of us maybe 1500 fans can't remember though, but I remember songs that changed the way I looked at music and the whole music scene that night, thanks JOHN for being you

Many years ago, about 1974, I stood outside the Philadelphia academy of music waiting, waiting and waiting for you to show up, it was cold, I was stoned, and after a while everyone who went through that door looked like you to me! I was losin my mind! I'd made ya a little present. your lyrics were already indelibly imprinted into my life and I could barely wait to give my my little sour grapes leather tooled thingy, to show my appreciation--and I finally did! you even let us come to the party after the gig, but you hid in a back room. we did have a few interactions, all above board sir- no worries! Well now it is 30 some years later, I still can't come to a 4 way stop, without your voice in my head singing... (It was a 4 way stop dilemma), over the years you have brought tears and laughter and this little mental problem! well the yeild went around and around and around.... Thanks! I always wish ya the very best! You are a true spokesman for the common folks!

Lars-Åke Karlsson
Hi! I´ve been a Prine fan since 1971 when i first heard "souverniers" on the radio. I ran to the recordshop and bought the album "Diamonds in the rough". Then I was stuck! Unfortunely records was quite expensive and i missed several vinyls, but i´m trying to make that up on older days. Fantastic music and fantastic lyrics! Just waiting for you to come to sweden John. Best regards Lars

BW - Arizona
We were shocked when we heard the song "Taking a Walk" when it first came out a while back. You see I'm married to a girl from Cedar Rapids (and have been for over 40 years) and we met in Iowa Falls. Glad to see you're coming back to Tucson in November. We just bought our tickets so the girl from Cedar Rapids who resided in Iowa Falls will be in the audience. We've been fans forever. B & B

Rob Gorley - Bradenton, FL
Kentucky boy, too! - John, I've been a fan for years. (since the first time I heard "Please Don't Bury Me" in 1980 in my dorm room at the University of Kentucky.) I have written a song called, "Fixer Upper" that I think is right up your alley. As a matter of fact, your writing style was the inspiration for this song. If you'd like to hear a rough cut of the song, e-mail me back and I'll send it to you. It would be a thrill to hear what you thought of it. Thanks for your consideration. http://www.myspace.com/robgorley

Jennifer - Lubbock, TX
Just wanted to say Hello! The first time I heard of you was in a very dear friend's house of mine (I guess you could say he is a self adopted dad) having a jam session of sorts and he played My Old Man. I thought he was going to have a heart attack when I asked him who sang it. He told me that Steve Goodman wrote it and he first heard the song while you were performing it. I immediatly went to a music store and bought one of your cd's and I have been in love with your music ever since. When I ask people my age (I'm 26) if they have heard of you they look at me and say "who?", then I introduce them to your music. Dear Abby, My Old Man, and Illegal Smile are my top 3 favorites. If you are ever in Texas I will do anything in my power to be there! Thanks for the music!

Hippie - Morrison, TN
My brother (RIP) introduced me to your music back in the 70's. My brother was very intelligent. He would spend most of his days sitting in a rocking chair, listening to his albums. Yours, in particular, made him cry. 'There's A Hole In Daddie's Arm', really affected him, as well as all of your music. Thanks to my brother, I love you. I've got 'Illegal Smile' and 'Paradise' as ringback tones on my cell. The only recording I have of you is one my brother left me, with the above mentioned songs on it. Now I cry for him, with every word you sing, and every familiar scratch on the album. Thank you for being here. I have a picture of my brother I'm very fond of, of him sitting on the couch, with your album laying next to him.

Mike Watson - Madison Wi.
John I have been a fan for many many years. I took my 18 year old daughter (who sings like bird) to see you when you were last through town. I am a painter (when not a banker) and have completed several paintings that may interest you or other Prine fans. I take a single lyric from one of your songs and create a sort of realistic/surrealistic image. The three finished painting are called....She Reminds Me of a Chess Game...That Raven At My Window Was Only A Crow... and ... The Speed and the Sound of Loneliness....wish I could upload them for you to see... Mike

David and Valerie Ison- Isom, KY

Hi John, We just want to let you know that you made our trip to Nashville this week, Aug. 28th, absolutely the best it could have ever been. We went to the Grand Ole Opry on that Tuesday night and it was great, but spotting you in the audience and then following you outside was the highlight of our whole trip. You were so gracious while we were telling you how much we love you and letting us pat on your back and shake your hand. We were so glad you said you are healthy and well. We have been huge fans for years and spend a lot of time sitting on our front porch listening to your music. You are welcome to come visit anytime. It's a small town in the mountains of eastern KY so you can't miss us! It was magical meeting you! Love, David, Valerie, and Beau

Tony Mac, Laurel,MS
Hi John, been a fan for over 30 years. I was introduced to your music by a friend in college, over a few beers and "Illegal Smiles"!! I can't tell you how much you have insprired my own song writing over the years. I have introduced many friends as well as my family to your music, and my wife and I were able to to attend your concert in Jackson,MS. The concert was outstanding. I felt like I was sitting on the back deck, grilling some burgers and listening to old friends jam before supper; especially when Iris forgot the words to In Spite of Oursleves. Our row just filled in the lines. I have a song I would love to pitch to Oh Boy Records; when I recorded it, the studio owner said, "that's a Prine song!". Maybe one day, I can get up to Nashville and play it. Keep up the work, John, there are still many future fans out there that haven't been exposed to your gift.

Nancy - Sebring, Fl
I've been a John Prine fan forever!..I was born just outside of Greenville, Ky. My childhood home was in MUHLENBERG COUNTY, on PARADISE ROAD, and my father worked for PEABODY COAL!

Jaakko Pitkänen - Finland

"Hi I thought I knew all there was to know about American music back in the early 80's. But then an elderly woman in Wisconsin sat me down to a chair in her kitchen. "Waddaya mean, you ain't heard of John Priiine?" she said. "Now you sit down and lissen very carefully!" I did what I was told. The record she put on was John Prine: John Prine. All the way through. My world changed. Thank you John! (Please do a live show in Finland someday)"

JC in Destin
We just went to see your concert in Mobile, AL on August 25th. Third time for my wife and me - first time for our friends. The concert was fantastic although I feel as though I should appologize for the behavior of a number of the so called fans in attendance. Booing Iris DeMent and screaming and clapping during almost every song....it was hard to take. The worst offenders just happened to be seated directly behind us and it took all I had not to say anything. You managed to play two of the three "must hear songs" - - Far, Far From Me and Hello In There and they were incredible. Only wish you could have squeezed in Six O'clock News. Thanks for a great time!!

Peter - Hermiston
I grew up with Prine. I started singing songs before I knew what the songs meant. A friend introduced your songs to me. I have CD's, MP3's and bootlegs. I slept through about a half of your concert in the mid eighties. I've based my life on some of the wisdoms that come through your songs. I love your approach to the music business. I'm glad you survived cancer. I want my two daughters to see you in concert. they're not mine biologically but I like that they tune into such songs as " Spanish pipedream" as I did. God bless you John Prine. You have made a wicked long career through your intelligence and longevity. I'm looking for a concert date soon, I'm in Maryland from 9/11/07 to 9/9/16/07 this year. If the mood strikes me I might just hang around until you have your concert there. It's too close to my training and it's been a long time since I've seen you in concert.

Jody Fowler - Jackson, MS
John, the peace and love that you share through songs has had an enormously positive impact on my life; second only to Jesus who I found by moving to the country, building a home, planting a little garden, and eating alot of peaches..... You have answered to a higher calling in this life and it is deeply appreciated by all that can truly feel your message, your vibe as it were. And I'm sure many others enjoy you as well. My first Prine songs were overheard from a house where a group of "hippies" lived near the Baptist church where my father pastored, he referred to them as heathens. I vividly recall wondering "how could they be heathens and sing along with these words of love, kindness, and truth?". One hot Mississippi day a very beautiful and plain young lady with the "hippies" invited me for watermelon as I passed by their house. I accepted and while visiting it became very clear very quickly that these people were not heathens, they were pursuing their dreams of peace and happiness. Living simply, loving much. Here 30 years later, I find that my pursuit is hardly different from those of the so called "hippies" and I still take much comfort where they seemed to find so much of it, in your songs and spirit. That beautiful plain "hippie" lady told me years later as our friendship grew that she thought you were a gift from God. Sounded kind of crazy at the time, but now I think there was much wisdom in her words. Wishing you (and your loved ones) the best.....

Schaulis Fike - NC
Hey John, It's Schaulis, who is Flawless.. who also sounds out... haha, remember? Well thank you again for taking a moment to say hi to me at the Koko Booth in Cary, NC...and for the autographs and the picture!!! It really made my whole year for me, I'm still smiling! I can tell you my dad was EXTREMELY jealous! I can't wait till you are around North Carolina again.. Heck, I might even make it out to Nashville for a weekend to see you play again.. I'll have to configure my schedule... but it's all worth it to hear you!!! Lov'n Always!! http://www.myspace.com/flawlessschaulis

Miss. Shavi Fireheart - Everett, WA
Hello Mr. Prine, I'm a HUGE fan of you and your music! I just couldn't resist sending you this little note to let you know I've adored your music and your talent since I was a little kid! .Well, in any case, I hope you get to read this. My siblings and I took up " Grandpa Was a Carpenter" as our family anthem. To us, it seemed you wrote that song about our Grandpa and Grandma. ( I think my big sister turned out like "BARBARA LEWIS". LOLS!) Thank you from the bottom of my lil' pea pickin' heart for all the many hours of wonderful times I've enjoyed not only listening but also performing your poetry and music ! I have turned many of my musician friends and songwriter friends on to your music over the past 30 some years.... the only song my steel guitar and tele player can sing (once in a great while) during a gig is "Please Don't Bury Me". ( hint, hint...There are some great new places to gig up here in WA State...The TRACTOR in Seattle, CASINOS popping up all over Amphitheaters...n more!) Thanks for taking the time to read this

Old Fan
Hi John, I am indeed an "old fan." I am old enough to have your first album, although I've now gotten it on CD, along with several other CDs and compilations. I'm afraid there is a bit of redundancy and even some overlap:) I've seen you in concert here at UofA's Centennial Hall. I hope you will grace us with your presence again soon

Shooter - Denham Springs, Louisiana
Your songs have been an influence to me. Expecially since I came back from a "conflict overseas" and I would like to add your song "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore." to your myspace page. One reason is that since I came back, all I see are yellow ribbons all over the place. It reminds me of the time, after 9-11 that people would put flags on their vehicles and then just forget about them. Hell, I remember one day when I found one of those flags in the ditch on my way to school and picked it up so that I could take it home and burn it since it was defiled. Please, post that flag decal song on myspace so that I can post it to my profile. Thanks.

Art - Tucson, AZ
Hi Again John, I was just looking over your tour schedule and it so happens that you will be in Santa Fe, New Mexico in early November. I can't think of a better time for you to slip on over to Tucson for a gig. You got nothing else going on that whole month! No excuses now, get on over here. Shall I pencil you in?? Great!!! (I have a lot of these conversations with myself these days...scary).

Heather Gaunce - Batavia, OH
I'm not much of a writer, but given the chance to tell you what I think, couldn't be past up. I was turned on to you by my father-in-law who has been a big fan for some years, now I can't get enough. You have a way of putting things that I get. Even my two small kids dig on Prine. You should hear them sing Fish and Whistle, its funny. Thanks for the music and keep on. Your fan,

Jay Masters - Palisades Hotel - Rome NY
Hey John, How are you man? I have a 175 year old tavern here in Rome, NY and you have a lot of fans here. Actually one of my customers met you in Germany years ago. On Wednesday nights all year round we have a different acoustic entertainer play and I ask that they play your music if they know it. You would get a kick out of hearing people trying to fill your shoes brother. Thanks for being so great. Huge fan. Jay

What a glorious experience it was, hearing you for the first time live in Cary NC....I must say, Cary is not representative of NC....My husband and I were mortified at the rude hollering that went on...These people were rednecks not from the South...! Anyway...Ms Griffin was horrible and unforgivably rude and wasted during the duet you so kindly allowed her...I know she is talented, but, she was so shrill, poorly produced and completely without warmth, it was all we could do to suffer through until you came on.. Thank the Lord for you..wish you well...you are entitled to more than you have ever earned....still don't get how anyone can holler or whoop during "Hello in There"....people...what can I say? Wish you had been in Clayton NC where there are still some authentic Southeners and those from elsewhere with manners!

Donita - West Virginia
Can't wait till you get to Charlseton in December. I teach nursing and health care. what better song to introduce the students to geriatrics than Hello in There. Really good for them to hear. Thanks

Colton - FL
Remember that line in the song about Muhlenberg county. Sorry i didnt remember the title. Anyways, I love that song and the idea about people calling the destruction of a way of life the progress and advancement of the human race. I made a school project about it and got into the art show. I made a book cover and i titled the book Progress of Man. I also used Aldous Huxley in same project, if your fan of him. Thanks for your great music.

If I were ever able to have a party and pick anyone to attend, you would be on the top of my list. I love your music and have for the last 20 years. I enjoyed your concert in Indianapolis several years ago and hope to see you again soon. There is a rumor that you have a home in Danville, IN. I'm thinking of a door-to-door campaign to verify this. However, if I did find you by this means, I'm sure I'd have a restraining order within the hour. So, I'll just have to be happy with a chance meeting at the IGA. Thank you for all of the incredible songs.

Chris Slate - Pinnacle, NC
Mr. Prine, the chance of you reading this is probably slim to none, but i'd like to say that you are awesome. My dad use to sing "Please don't bury me" when i was a kid. For years I did not know who sang the song. Oneday, years later I was going down the road w/ a friend listening to one of your CDs and I loved the music. Then, not knowing what I was about to hear, " Please don't...." started playing. I flipped out. I have a # of your CDs now & love all your music. You got a fan for life.

Don Lummus - Henderson TX
As a "struggling" songwriter.. I have to tell you (finally got a chance) I surely do like your "warped" sense of direction when it comes to telling stories!! Been a fan for a long time.. got hooked by a cousin-in-law who knows every thing you've ever come out with!.. Spent many a crazy time sittin', pickin' with Bruce (who plays anything with strings).. singing and commenting on the stories behind the songs. Trying like crazy to get Sue (my wife and band partner) up the "nerve" to sing "In Spite Of Ourselves" with me in public.. she's still balking! I love it! Of course, if I have to pick a "favorite".. "Paradise" wins out hands down! In my memory.. I just substitute Kentucky for East Texas.. and it all fits. Thanks for All you do to keep story's alive! Come see us when you can on our space! http://www.myspace.com/donandsuetexastwo

I just had knee replacement surgery on 7/25 and have told everybody that my girlfriend had bought me Prine tickets for my birthday for the Charlottesville concert 8/18.When I told the anestheologist he started singing 'The Accident" and we went down the hall to the Er singing and when we got in the ER he asked the surgeon if he didn't know John Prine and the doctor started singin too so we were all in the ER singing Prine songs while I was being put under for surgery. I haven't seen JP in over 30 years, since he played with Steve Goodman in Capon Bridge WV. My friend Pati was there then, too. I would give anything to be able to get an autograph.I told my grandson, when he asked if I would be able to, that I would have it on my shoulder and have it tattooed there! I am so excited to be going! I haven't been released to travel yet, but they all know I am going.

Melissa - Again
So I wrote my short & sweet John Prine story yesterday, but I forgot to leave any contact information. It would truely make my year if Mr.Prine would take a picture & sign an autograph for Parker and myself. We will be at the August 18th show in Charlottesville, Virginia. It will be our 4 year anniversary, and we're coming to see John pick and sing all night. If this is possible here is my contact information. No matter what time of day I will answer. 540-908-7278 or m_danberg@yahoo.com Hopefully waiting, Melissa

Tina M, Galway, Ireland
Dear Mr. Prine, My name is Tina Mullan. I’m a 22-year-old Galway student living and working in the west. My folks are from Donegal – there’s two places you know already! When my brother and I were young, we lived down in west Cork with my mum and dad. An idyllic little village is where we spent our childhood and the soundtrack to our lives was music like yours. Iris and Emmylou, Merle and Mary Black – we couldn’t get enough of it. I once met you in Donegal and told you that my daddy had raised me on big fires, red wine and John Prine. You laughed and told me there was a song in there somewhere. Iris DeMent laughed and told me the same thing. I think you’re probably right! As you know, there’s a wonderful music scene here in Galway. You can hear Seasick Steve playing in the Roisin Dubh on Wednesday and listen to Sharon Shannon or Declan O’ Rourke playing in the Crane Bar on Thursday. Every time you play, I’m too slow off the mark and miss out on tickets. I’m pretty poor what with being a student and all so I have to save up! This time round, I hear you’re playing in Derry. Well, that’s just right around the corner from my folks so my brother, my folks and me are going to get together and see you once more. My brothers coming from Waterford and I’m traveling from Galway. We’re taking one night out of our busy lives to come hear you play, listening to you as a family. That’s something we don’t get to do much any more. As any little girl will tell you, my Dad is the best in the world. He and my mother have raised us to appreciate the smaller things in life and to always look to home whenever in doubt. We listen to your music and hear the lessons our father taught us. Songs like ‘Hello in There’ and ‘Angel from Montgomery’ have shaped our past and helped us to forge together our future. There’s nothing more any of us like that to sit around chatting and laughing, having a beer, some barbequed steak and looking into the flames. I would love to meet you again Mr. Prine and see the look on my daddy’s face. He is so proud of my brother and I. Not many 15-year-old girls know all the words to ‘Jesus, the Missing Years’ and I’m guessing not a lot of 22-year-old ones know what they mean. My dad’s shown me the wit and meaning in all of your music. He’s taught me how important it is to recognize the wisdom of age and to look at the world with a smile. Albeit a suspicious one sometimes! If anybody reading this could let me know how to get to meet you again in Derry in October or even if you yourself could do a shout-out to Tina’s dad Tony Mullan it would make me the happiest Prine fan in the world! Thank you for your music and I look forward to hearing you play!

I don't think there are bigger fans than the my boyfriends family. My boyfriend's name is Parker , and he introduced me to your music. John Prine songs, have really been the soundtrack of our relationship. From the funny songs, Donald and Lydia and 1/2 an inch of water and you think you're gonna drown, to the sentimental, Angel from Montgomery and Blue Umbrella. Every Familygathering I go to, Parker's dad Charlie gets his guitar out and sings your songs. I am going to my first show in Charlottesville Virginia August 18th. I am so excited, this isn't the first for Parker of course, but we are so excited. I can't wait to hear all your stories, and sing along to the songs. We'll be there on the 18th. Sincerely, Genuine Fans, Melissa and Parker PS- It would make our year is we could have autographs and pictures, no one would believe it! and it would make our year!

Spencer's Mom
I am writing you today to ask you for a very special request. My son, Spencer, will be attending the August 17th John Prine concert at the Koka Booth Ampitheatre. Spencer’s birthday is the same day as the concert and he will be turning 7 years old. His dad introduced John Prine’s music to him over a year ago and he has been a huge fan ever since. We have all of Mr. Prine’s CDs. What makes this request so special is that Spencer is our “miracle child”. He was born 16 weeks early and weighed only 1 lb. 6 oz. at birth. He was in the hospital for four months before coming home. However, because of his extreme prematurity, he lost his vision. However, being blind has allowed Spencer to develop a true appreciation of music. Now for the special request: Since Spencer and his dad, Allen, will be attending the concert on Spencer’s birthday – what better gift than to meet one of Spencer’s favorite artists, John Prine. Is there any way this could be arranged? They will be sitting in Section 2, Row E, Seats 9 & 10. Thank you in advance for your consideration of this request. I can be reached at ahouck@nc.rr.com Thank you!

Your page says you will be at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco. I was so disappointed I would not be in Cary,NC for your show with Patty Griffin. My friends and parents were all braging about who was going and what a great time they would have, since they knew what a huge fan I was of your's. The last time I looked you had no shows scheduled for the west, and after being made as jealous as they made me I was determined to catch a show with you as long as I could drive there in a day. To make a long story short I ended up back here at your page and saw you had posted some new tour dates. I live in LA now and the Cerritos show would be way closer but alot of good bands were playing at the Strictly Bluegrass festival and I thought it would be worth the trip for the scenery and the other great bands I would be able to hear there. I see on your myspace page you will be playing strictly bluegrass but there is nothing about you playing mentioned on strictlybluegrass.com page. Where can I see you because that is my primary concern?

Bob Taylor, SS Troubadour - Boston, Massachusetts
Not being of the musical stature as yourself I look for ways to spice up my sets. So though I'm from Boston I made sure when I vacationed last year in San Francisco that I would get to an open mike there. Why? So that when I perform That's the Way the World Goes Round, I can narrate that bit about the "Happy Enchilada" and playing in a Club in SF. Hope ya liked the story. http://www.myspace.com/sstroubadour

Long time ago. You were just starting. I was saying goodbye to stages and mic's, to stay off the road and stay home with my kids, just a couple of blocks down Wells. Am a Grandma now, and just crawled out of my no music zone, and put up a simple profile. Wishes sent for all good things for you and yours,

I got to meet you in Ashland, KY at the Paramount Arts Center just after my dad passed away, you even dedicated "Please Don't Bury Me" to him. So....I just wanted to say thank you again, from the very bottom of my heart. Keep Singin!

Ya know, you may not remember this, but I was in court in Memphis Tennessee on the same morning as you about 18 years ago. You were there with Keith Sykes being sentenced to 24 hours in Memphis City Jail for ridin in the car with an intoxicated driver or somethin like that. Anyway, after your sentencing you laughed and you said "I can do that standin' on my head." I was impressed with your levitation over the situation. Later I had to do 45 days in the county farm for drinkin and drivin in Memphis, but remembering you rising above your one day I realized I would survive one day at a time. And I did. Best regards

HI John- I think the last time I saw you was the night your brother brought you to see my band The Casualaires at the Earl of Old Town back in '78. I remember you drove up in that beautiful '51 Ford you had back then. People keep telling me my songwriting sounds like you, so what the heck- I can think of worse compliments! ;^)   http://www.myspace.com/deanmilano

Nina - Wichita, KS
Hello there Mr. John Prine,
I grew up listening to all your music and absolutely love you!!! My dad was a big fan of yours anytime they got the chance my parents were at your show. I remember one that you went to in Conroe, TX at a small Ice House on Highway 105. I didnt get to go because I was too young but they came home and told us all about it. I think you should make another myspace page with more of your songs featured maybe a couple of older ones...everytime I listen to your music it takes me back to all the gatherings we had in our living room, my dad had his guitar and we all would sing alot of your songs and a couple of lynard skynard. Well thanks for letting me ramble!!!
Love Ya, Nina

Larry D Litton - Charleston, WV
How's it hanging?? Have loved your music all my life. When you plannin on comin to charleston,wv?? soon? never? when hell freezes over?? All the above??
See... I love ya.. made it a multiple guess question.

Seriously... I would dearly love to hear you in our new Clay Center. Seating capacity aint so great but the look, feel, and acoustics rock. Saw James Taylor there last year. Actually he called Clay center and made us a fill in date. LMFAO!! He sold out first day. I got 3 decent tickets at 104 per... never pd that much b4 but I love JT. Named my son after him.

If you respond to this I'll likely shit my pants. I'm a country fingerpicking 6 string player. Which reminds me!! If you haven't heard of the Vandalia Festival which is held every year on the WV Capitol grounds Memorial Day week end. Please educate yourself. It is a fine venue for what is more than likely nearing the end of days for our mountain heritage music and ways.

Hell if you want I'll research the festival, history and the whole 9 yards and send it to ya. All I need is what format you would want it in and where to send it.
Hoping you read and answer this....
Your friend and fan,

Hi John, I've been listening to your music for quite some time now and tell everyone they need to tune in. I have had my fiance and his brother become big fans. We see you in concert every time you're near. It just so happens that the next time you will be in our area (Baltimore) it is our wedding day! We decided to cut our reception short so we can skip out and see you in concert at The Myerhoff Symphony Hall. We had actually planned on singing In Spite Of Ourselves at our reception. We like to have fun and laugh at ourselves. We are really looking forward to this special day and in a weird kinda way, sharing it with your music. Thanks for all the great lyrics! Leah and Jason

I just wanted to thank you for sharing your voice, music, and talent with all of us. My uncle is a musician. He has always sang your songs to us. Some of my earliest childhood memories are of me listening to Uncle Freddy sing John Prine songs to us. Thank You for those memories, they're great. I love you, don't ever stop singing.

Good Afternoon John. Just a not to say thank you for your music from over the years. The first time I was able to see you was at the Mariner Theater in Homer, AK, the night the road was washed out leaving town. The last time was at Bluegrass here in Telluride, which was another great show. Best wishes.

John-Ontario
John, I simply want to thank you for many years of beautiful music. A girlfriend loaned me her walkman 22 years ago with a tape of Sweet Revenge and I've been hooked ever since. I find your lyrics not only "tell" a story but more than any other artist, they provide me with visual images in my mind. *Photographs show the laughs Recorded in between the bad times Happy sailors dancing on a sinking ship* These lines,(along with many others) have always just blown me away. While not exactly happy thoughts, the imagery is so so strong. I taught myself some chords and I love to play your music for myself, no matter how poorly. I would love to shake your hand and thank you in person. I hope I get that chance one day.

Hi John, Just wanted you to know that you are still gaining new fans. I heard about you from my daughter who heard about you from a co-worker. I am 60 years old and somehow missed you up until 2005. My daughter sent me 'Fair and Square' and I was hooked! Bought many more of your albums and am THOROUGHLY enjoyIng them as is my husband who has never really been a music fan. Your cd's are the only ones that we listen to in the car. I guess you could say we love you! I am a big fan and I can say I have enjoyed music throughout my life, but have only been a true fan of one other artist - the early Elvis. My husband and I saw you in Iowa last year, and my girlfriend and I have purchased pre-sale tickets to see you in Nashville. Neither she nor I have been to Nashville before. Need I say, we are so excited to attend your concert. She too is a new fan. I am from Minneapolis and she is a recent transplant to Kentucky after residing in Minneapolis for a lifetime. As so many people have told you, there is something very special about your music. For some odd reason it has had an influence on my husband's and my relationship. I know it is weird, but it is true. I think you'll probably want to give a big 'hello" to the women from Minneapolis - right? Can't wait.

Illegal Smile - I first heard this song as a teenager when my best friend claimed it as her theme song. The two of us wore many of those smiles through the years. I became a fan of all your music after that. My friend Patsy passed away 3 years ago, but our memories live on. I play Illegal Smile for her and remember our good times together quite often. Thanks for many years of great music and memories. Forever a fan, Caroline

John, Evansville...2006... A woman spoke with you in the lobby of our hotel and asked you to play Some Humans Ain't Human at your concert that night. My best friend recalled how you, the gentleman that you are, politely glanced over at him as he smiled his approval. You then gave a warm smile and a few moments of your time to this woman. Later than night as I sat behind my friends at the Evansville concert (as usual an exceedingly high spirited crowd) you dedicated Some Humans Ain't Human to the woman you spoke with while standing in the lobby...and her husband. Well, WE JUST WENT NUTS with laughter and joy......You see...this couple, although they planned to, never married. They were very much in love. AFTER THAT it was our joke and reality that JOHN PRINE "married them" in front of thousands in the theatre that night! What a great time and a great story it was for us. Well John, since that time that woman died and six months later my best friend died of a broken heart. During that six months he wore-out his Fair and Square CD and perhaps even called your office staff a couple of times with appreciation. He even named his small spread in Colorado "Bear Creek." I just want to say "Thank You" for being you. For me, this is now only my story and I wanted to share it with you and your fans. John, thanks for the good times and KEEP MOVING ON. I'll see you on the road.

Hi guys, I really love the Prine/Wiseman album. Would it be possible to have John perform with Arlo Guthrie? I don't know what your commitments are but I would really enjoy my two favorite artists performing togeter. By the way...John's 'the other side of town' was rattling in my brain for years...just never bothered to write it down. When my WIFE goes into a fit...I just que it up and increase the volume...(christ does she get pissed...). Thanks again. Regards, Roger Curtiss-Milwaukee,WI- P.S. Have John stop in for a concert please.

Eric - North Richland Hills, TX
I appreciate you opening the Dallas, "The Majestic," with "Spanish Pipedream," the song of my wedding; however, I was dissappointed that you took the word Texas out of "Some Humans ain't human." Nonetheless, your lyrics are still an inspiration. Help me change the world... people like me... quote people like you!

Hi. My name is Michelle. I love your music. It takes me back to when I was a little girl. My dad used to and still does listen to you all the time. I always loved your funny songs. They are even funnier to me now that Iam grown up. I just heard your song Lets Talk Dirty in Hawaii. That was too funny. Anyways keep jammin'. I would love to see you if you ever come to the Orlando area.

My boyfriend,( now husband) sang me the song about the girl wishin washin out those dirty clothes in a laundromat, not too far from the Alamo. While we were sitting in a little laundromat. Then he went out and bought the album. I fell in love with your music and ideas.I went to Central City to see you in 1997 at the Everly Brothers Homecoming.I talked to you and got your autograph.Just now a crazy friend of mine called and said I just met John Prine's second cousin, and I told him you were a groupie. I love to sing Your Flag Decal at work, makes people look at you funny lol. Thanks for the music

Connie Jo - Augusta West Virginia
I saw you in Capon Bride WV with Steve Goodman, Carter Family, Doc Watson, Arlo, and others in 74 or 75. My friend who was also there has bought us tickets for your concert 8/18 in Charlottesville VA as a birthday gift for me. I am having knee replacement on 7/25 adn told them if I wasn't going to be mobile by 8/18 I would have to postpone it until after that date! They said I should be, so that is my incentive to do what the doctor says, buckle down on the therapy and be hobbling at the very least on 8/18! my friend is a paramedic so I will be in good hands!LOL I can't wait to be at the concert! This will be our first outing together in many many years and we have been friends for about 40 years. Also, thanks again for the incentive to be a good post op patient (I don't usually do too good with being a patient!LOL). If I had a penny for everytime we all sat around and sang your songs I could just buy out the concert and give tickets to all my friends! My ex husband wants to come with us, but I made plans with him to come to a concert next year! I turned him on to your music 18 years ago and he has worn out the tapes by now. You are the best! When asked my favorite category of music, i say: bluegrass, old rock and John Prine - not in that order! You are your own category! My kids love you, and now my grandkids are becoming fans too! We even played some of your music at my son's funeral (the visitation) because he was a huge fan and turned all his friends on to your music!

David Lee Bechmann - California, USA
Don't know if John will ever get this. In the late 60's I was a drummer in blues band. Toured the country. Then came Viet Nam. Came back in '72 and moved to Long Beach, CA. Discovered I had no band anymore. After watching John on PBS I went out and bought my first Prine record. Shortly afer that I bought my first guitar. Didn't take me long to pick it up. Pretty soon started trying to get into a few clubs. A small club down in Belmont Shore, I met I guy named Steve who let me sit in on stage and use his his equipment. He lived in Huntingon Beach. I began to write my own music. Now almost 40 years later, to make a long story short, I live in central Mexiko now and I own 8 guitars. Our hub city is named Cerritos. John will be playing in Cerritos, CA on Oct. 8. Ironic, since I play Prine music over there. I'm here in California just to visit with the kids, probably won't make the concert since I'll be back down south. When my Mexican friends ask me what kind of music of (Prine's) is this, I tell them this is American music. This is the best music that John Prine and Steve Goodman could write about our country when life was easier and you could still get a bowl of chili down in south east Texas for 50 cents. Anyway, I'm an old man venting on a Sunday morning since I miss what used to be our country. db

Would love to see you in concert some time and bring Sam w/me! Looking forward to meeting you some day!

I want to come and see you in Charlottesville, VA on August 18th. I would very much love to see you again. I have seen you many times and you are ALWAYS GREAT !!!!! I saw you in Charlottesville, VA before at that same place ~~~ If my memory serves me correctly. It was at or near UVA. I lived in Charlottesville for years, and my sister, Liz, still lives in VA in a small town called Bumpass, Va. If I don't get a job before then, maybe just maybe I can drive up and catch your show. I certainly hope so. As an aside, she met you one time and you both smoked togeher. I bet you don't even remember, but she does. It's a happy memory for her. Hugs,Peace,Love, Kathie P.S. I put you on my top friends list. I also LOVE Steve Goodman and all of your artists from OH BOY records !!! my email address is: kathie863@bellsouth.net if you ever care to drop me a line.

Chris - Indiana
John, I am writing to apologize for an injustice I have placed on you. I was mad as hell at you for a ten year stint. I refused to listen to any songs by you and refused to know what songs people were referring to when talking about your music. Acted as if I never heard it. The silly things you do because of love that has been parted out. The girlfriend that introduced me to your music and I had went seperate ways in 1996. Being that you seem to pick up on the finer grains of human nature I will explain for the benefit of those not so inclined to make it a point that the break up was pretty bad. Anyway I lost your music in that struggle. Last fall I was watching Austin City Limits and you were featured and decided to get rid of my grudge. Of course I realize that the whole time I was being an idiot about the whole thing. I have since found some of your more recent stuff and recommend your catalog to people. I think the reason I like your style is because you are humorous and insightful, not Dennis Miller humorous, I think that if I were to hang out with you that your sence of humor is transferrable. Anyway... I hope you don't hold a grudge that I am pretty esotericly silly. -Chris
