"John Prine is so good, we may have to break his thumbs" said Kris Kristofferson in 1971. Thanks to Kris' restraint, we have been treated to some of the best songs written over the past two decades. This 41 song collection, culled from his eleven albums and other sources, provides a representative sampling of the wit and wisdom of this wonderful guitar-playing storyteller. Includes 50 page booklet with bio, lots of great photos, and notes on each song by Prine..FROM: Cindy Smith

John Prine is better than chocolate. I've loved him since the late '70s. The Great Days Anthology has most of my favorite songs, however, I missed Clocks and Spoons and Jesus (The Missing Years) on this CD. My favorite John Prine line is probably "If heartaches were commercials we'd all be on TV." Ain't it the truth? I can't help laughing out loud at the line, "The nightclub was burning from the torch singer's song." It's this "off the top of his head" humor that keeps me hungry for more songs. I have listened to John Prine in every state of mind and he always makes me smile. I first saw him at an outdoor concert with Arlo Guthrie, another of my favorites, and in my opinion, he stole the show from Arlo, a difficult feat. We love you Johnny. Keep us smiling. This collection of Prine has helped me through one of the toughest times in my life. When I listen to this collection it helps me look forward into the future instead of trying to live in a unfulfilling past. Thanks john for everything! FROM: Myles

Do not have enough room for every song title, this album will bring you on an emotional roller coaster ride, from Sam Stone to Don't Bury Me, from Chain of Sorrow to Speed of the Sound of loneliness. My first JP Album, the start of the collection. You just can't beat class.FROM: bubu

This was my intro to John Prine and I LOVED it. After hearing him on this I have purchased every one of his CD's and loved all of them. I always return to this one and play it for hours. He is the BEST!!!! I have seen only one concert here in Canada and can't wait until he returns.FROM: John R

If it's possible to wear out CD's, I'll do it with these. They are simply great! listening to them in chronological order gives the listener a chance to listen to John grow. He is the master writer!FROM: James Dean.

Angel from Montgomery, Unwed Fathers, Sabu... and Sam Stone. Four reason why John is the greatest song writer alive today! At least 30 of the 41 songs here are all-time classics. Only complaint - where's Jesus the missing years? |
