Letters/Stories: JANUARY TO JUNE 2009

June 2009

Kato - Dallas, Texas
My mother went to her 1st concert EVER, last month, to see you at Redrocks in Colorado. AWESOME! My sister scored tickets and I flew in from Dallas and we bundled up Mom, wheelchair and all, for front row seats! She tapped her feet and clapped her hands so much that the blankets kept fallin off! Magical show, My Friend...

Mary - Kaş turkey
Growing up in Milwaukee yeah that's near Chicago lots of your music Coos Bay Oregon - A high school reunion party including my kids 1st grade teacher - We sat around singing your stuff only - U had lots of fans in Coos Bay in the 80s. Saw U in Portland Oregon 10 years ago. Now I am in Turkey. Got one of your older CDs and played the Flag Decal song for friends here. Also played it for kids in 20s traveling with me on a Craigs list ride from Utah to Portland. They were impressed said it still applied today. which was a couple years ago. Keep going we like your words!

Karen Brown - Columbus, Indiana
John, Caught your shows in Cincinnati, Evansville, Louisville & Bloomington last year. As always you were great. When can we expect your 2009 tour to hit our area?? We are having withdrawals..."Mr. Brown turn the volume down , I believe this evenings shot."

Ed Bulmrer
Your songs have changed my life. Up until I heard your songs I was a serious song writer. Now I write songs that make people laugh. We need a little more of that especially in these days and time. I play some of your songs for my boating events and people literally die laughing. I owe you big time. In fact I have written a song I would love you to listen to but don't know how to get it to you. If there is a way let me know. Anyway thanks for the songs.

Jill, Stephenville, Newfoundland

Dear John; Just recently I acquired tickets to your upcoming show in, Corner Brook, Newfoundland. I spent 2 hours continuously dialing and somehow got through....they said I was 'lucky' and I said ...it was meant to be. So....that evening I posted on facebook...that I had gotten the tickets and wrote....."I got tickets to John Prine....I wonder will he let me be his Iris DeMent?"......... Now, I love Iris DeMent....what a beautiful voice....when I heard her singing with you I had to learn every one of her songs......anyway....we got tickets to your show in St. John's, Newfoundland a couple of years ago and drove the ten hours in the morning to get there and returned the next day (Stephenville)....and when you were onstage and you said you were going to sing 'In spite of ourselves'....I could barely keep on my chair...I wanted to rush right up there and jump on stage and help you out (*smile*) but I knew I would have probably gotten kicked out of the building.....now, I have tickets in the front row for Corner Brook and am not sure I will be able to stay on my seat if you sing that song............I do sing....and if you would like a female to accompany you on that song...drop me a line and let me know the key....(*Smile*)....also, my Mom really wants to hear..."Christmas in Prison"...she will be in the front row 2. I only have one video posted and it's at this link.......the very first video ....singing the Old Crow Medicine Show song 'wagon wheel'. http://my.liveireland.com/profile/Jill Take care,,,,,see you in august John................

Patti Ann Cronin
I fell in love \with your songs back in the early seventies. I only had one album, the one with "Hello, In There", "Angel from Montgomery", and "Sam Stone". I listened to it all the time and actually still have it. I think you are a wonderful storyteller and songwriter. Your wit and humor are extraordinary! I am so glad you decided to give of yourself to the world...NO gift could be so precious!

Alverna Flynn
My hubby has been a fan of JP since he's early teens. He then introduced him to me. We lived in a pretty small rural area of NL no malls,no traffic lights,no theatres and many other things cities have to offer. JP found the hearts of the teenagers here. I couldn't believe there came a time when we could actually "see" the man himself in concert...our little island some how got the infamous John Prine! Man I was a kid again....we now have our tickets for August 2009. Thanks John for coming back again. Your a one and only!! p.s our signature song is IN SPITE OF OURSELVES hee hee......you wouldn't believe how every word fits us!!! Our 8 year old luvs ya too!!

D. Malik - Chicago
Sorry Tony. I don't like any Prine fan to be bummed. I'm sure you have a great voice and enjoy singing along, but for a concert, where I pay to hear Prine - you can save it and sing along with the album at home.

Mary E. Evansville Indiana
Having a beer with you on my front porch is my entire bucket list. Not currently terminally ill that I know of; just want you to know that I want to get that in before I die. Next time you are in Evansville again, I'll give you a yell from the audience ("beer on the porch, John!) Mary PS. I am not a nut. Much.

John Kole - Milwaukee
Sam Stone was killed in action in service to his country several days ago.

Tony, Richland, PA. deantopa@gmail.com
I saw you play at the Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. I was sitting there having the time of my life after you followed Steve Earle, another who I would drive miles to see. I am a G-D-A and other three chord player and have been banging your songs for 30 years! So I am singing your songs right along with you, when this guy turns around and said "stop singing." I went into total shock and smiled back at him. He glared at me and everyone around me thought that he was going to come over into my row and punch me out! So, being pretty bummed out on the way home, I got to thinking, "not singing along with John Prine is like putting a kid in a sand box and telling him not to play in the sand. " To say the least, I don't think that I will be going back to Wolf Trap again. Someone out there send me an e-mail to make me feel better. AT

Lisa-Marin, CA
Dear John, (Geez, that sounds like I'm about to break up with somebody.) I love your music! I feel like a baby after reading all of these posts from 20+ year loyal fans. I became a fan about nine months ago after my boyfriend sent me one of your songs. It was a beautiful song. I'm sure I had heard it before sometime as a kid growing up in the South but I had no idea who I was listening to back then. My research began to find more songs that you'd written. I love them. They're inspiring. Like everyone else I love the way you explain feelings in words. Your songs range from funny, to cynical, to touching, to deep to odd. Some of them make absolutely no sense to me. Others play with the words in such a clever way. It's hard to believe that one person came up with all of them because they vary so much in so many ways. I wish I knew the stories behind all of them. I read the CD covers but they only give a little taste of the whole story. Maybe the whole story would spoil it anyway. We went to a concert in SF a couple of months ago. I'll go to another if I get the chance. My BF swears up and down that I'm the only person he's ever known (besides himself) that actually likes your music. I find that hard to believe. You're the best!!!!! My all time favorites so far are Yes, I Guess, They Oughta Name a Drink After You, Speed of the Sound of Loneliness, The Sins of Memphisto, Dear Abby, It's Happening to You, That's the way that the World goes 'Round, Great Compromise, the list goes on and on ... God Bless You!

Terry in Cambridge, right next door.
Hi John, I first heard your music at a cottage party back in 1974 in Goderich, in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Wow, it doesn't seem that long ago. I believe it was that same year that I had the pleasure of attending a concert at Alumni Hall of the University of Western Ontario, where Colleen Peterson opened for you, your guitar, a stool and a glass of water. Since then, I've introduced your music to a lot of friends and acquaintances and there have been many gatherings where your various tunes and lyrics have entertained. Anyway, my darlin' hometown is Stratford, Ontario, and it is also the home of the well known Festival Theatre (widely acclaimed for it's Shakespearean play presentations), which is a great venue where I think you would enjoy playing. There are many fans in the area and if you and your promotional people were interested in this location, I'm sure we would not disappoint. I would be delighted to hear of a future concert date in the "Festival City", but whether or not the tour comes to town, we'll continue to be fans. All the best

Paul Stanhope
They said you read this? We are both old men know, I was there and I understand the time we lived. your music is as important now as it was then. kris had it right. If I had two words to say to you and I hope you get this THANK YOU. Paul

Bill Carr

John, I had the pleasure of seeing you perform the last two times you were in Portland, Maine. I will never forget those shows thank you so much for taking drive up interstate 95!!

roaminoklahoman - choctaw oklahoma
john, ive been a big fan of yours since 1972. been to all your concerts in the oklahoma city area the last one in december. iris dement and john prine it just doesn't get much better than that. thanks for all your good music. its gotten me through 3 divorces. you are the best songwriter that's ever lived. hank williams might have been better had he lived long enough. if your ever get by lake eufaula i have a cabin we'll go catch some sandbass and after that we'll eat a chicken fried steak or some good barbeque. i love you man. mike - pixie woods, lake eufaula oklahoma.

Doc Peter- Texas
Geeze, been a big fan since "Illegal Smile", "Pretty Good", and "...Flag Decal...", guess about 1972. Enjoyed the entire album, and the ones that followed. Six of us from Waco went to show in Dallas about July 4, 1974, got there late without tickets, but we got lucky and scored 3rd row seats just off center stage. Anyway, keep up the good you have done for all of us John.

Scott Morrison-Michigan-wsmorrison@comcast.net

Where do I start....back in 1973/74 Hello In There and Sam Stone were the finest songs I have ever heard....then I met my now, husband, in 1977 and the two of us have been hooked on your great songs ever since. We saw you in the early 1980's at Convocation Hall in Toronto.. We have been together for 32 years now and listen to your songs daily! I just purchased tickets to see you at Massey Hall in Toronto on August 14/09. We are sooooo excited and I am wondering IS THERE ANY CHANCE TO MEET YOU IN PERSON BEFORE OR AFTER THE SHOW??? We are both 54 years old and want to meet our hero before we grow up.....what do you say..... Stewart & Peggy Hitchon

Dear Mr. Prine: I just wanted to thank you for the tremendous show you put on at the Beacon in NYC on May 15, 2009. My father, who is now 71, introduced me to your music in my teens. When I was 21, he took me to one of your concerts 29 years ago in Toronto, Canada at the Ontario Place amphitheatre. It is a fine memory. I was able to return the favor this past Friday night at the Beacon when we saw you again. This time, it was my treat. My mom passed a few years back and my dad has been pretty morose. It's been many months since I've seen him that happy. You've given us more pleasure than you can imagine. Thank you. Heather.

JC Mooney
Yes people, he really does read these letters! The man himself is coming to Charlottetown PEI ! See you in August Mr John Prine!!

Sarah Cameron- Fredericton NB
Well, this is a long shot...but..Hello Mr. Prine!!! You are coming to the city i live in here in Canada. I went to see you last year when you were in Portland Maine. It was ama zing...I crossed something of my "list of things to do before i die". I never thought i would see you the first time, and now i get to see you a second time! Do you do fan greetings? I have a guitar hear that plays your music anytime i'm happy or anytime i'm down....It's just a cheap old Yamaha i got for my second mothers day, but it means a lot to me...and i would love you have your autograph on it. My son wants to come see you, but he's a bit young for a long set...he's only three, and he already knows who you are and recognizes your music. My spouses is a punk rocker that didn't like much of anything but punk...but he started listening to you, and he's a fan as well. I just love your music, it's done everything from making me cry with a glass a wine, to smile at a funeral (not such a good idea). I'd like to know if you are going to do fan signing, that way i can bring my git box...my email is narcaciss@hotmail.com....as i said before, i know it's a long shot, but i'm pretty damn hopeful to actually meet you and shake your hand, and you could laugh at me because i'd be star struck, lol. take care, and i look forward to seeing you again! Sarah

i cant tell you how long i have been a fan, because then you might figure out how old i am. love you . love you work, blah blah blah.. saw you in wilkes barre and had a great time but i was curious about something. do you mind when people sing along with you at the concerts? I was singing along, because i know every word, been singing along to you for years, but the people in front of me kept turning around and giving me dirty looks.. then during " far from me", a guy three rows down from me was singing beautifully, he even had that harmony going, and another guy got up and starting yelling and carrying on about how he paid his money to hear john sing everyone else should be quiet. what is your take on it ? i was soo excited to be seeing john prine in concert, but then was so disappointed when surrounded by all these kill joys..

Jill - Illinois
Central Illinois has been missing you, John! When are you coming around again? We have a new venue that we think would suit you perfectly--The Rosebud Theatre in Effingham. (www.therosebudtheatre.com) Sure would make our big old goofy world a lot brighter if we could see you there this year. We love you!

Dennie, Ogilvie, MN
I discovered John Prine when I noticed you had written most of the songs on another album I had. It was love at first listen. Over the next 35 years, The music has been such a great part of my life, like so many here before me have said. I wasn't surprised to find this web site, and thousands, and now generations of people that listen to, love, and sing your songs, and consider you a big part of their lives, and their good memories. Thanks for sharing your gifts with us!

Christina Karlsson
Sorry to interrupt! My husband Lars from Björnlunda sweden has taken all space. Now I would like to say to you John that I really love your music but I have a little difficult with your dialect! Really love your music. I expect an answer from you. Greetings and hugs from Tina Karlsson Björnlunda (a small hillbilly town in sweden)

Lars-Åke Karlsson
Hello in there! I just had a fantastic experience last week, me and my wife went to Amsterdam Holland to celebrate our 29:th anniversary and on the night for our romantic dinner cruise on the Amsterdam canals we met a lovely couple, Linda and Russ from Boston. Russ asked me how our trip went so far and i told him that i think Amsterdam was a charming town then i told Linda and Russ that the option for our Amsterdam trip was either LA or San Francisco to go to an concert. They asked me "what artist" and i told them "one of my greatest idols, John Prine! Suddenly i sat in front of two very long faced people! "You´re kidding" Linda said to me, that's our favourite to she said! We have been to three concerts. Then everything went wild i nearly cried. Can you imagine, go to Amsterdam Holland and meet soul friends! Going home to sweden we actually ran into Linda and russ at the Tax.free shop and Linda gave me an present so dear. It was an ticket for one of your concert from Capitol Center for the Arts New Haven april 25 2006. She was keeping it as a bookmark. I told her i couldn´t take it but she insisted, ok then i nearly cried for the second time. I´m gonna frame it and hang it at my home music studio. Anyhow, we´re waiting for you in sweden. Take care and good bless Lars-Åke Björnlunda (small Hillbilly village south of Stockholm) Sweden

Dave Rubin - Connecticut
Hey John - My wife Stephanie and I are seeing you this Friday in New Haven, Connecticut. It will be our 10th wedding anniversary to the day. Our wedding song was "You Got Gold" - In fact, my wife had "you got gold" inscribed on the inner part of my wedding ring along with the date May 8, 1999. We were going to go away for the weekend to celebrate our 10th, when we found out that you were playing in CT that day. It was perfect -- so we cancelled our weekend plans and will be right up front for the concert. Any chance of your playing "You Got Gold" on Friday would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Dave

TO A DEEP THINKER: THE WAY YOU DESCRIBE SITUATIONS THAT PEOPLE FIND THEMSELVES IN IS JUST AMAZINGLY HONEST BUT FUNNY. I LOVE TO LISTEN TO THE WAY YOU PRESENT YOUR MESSAGES AND YOUR FEELINGS ALONG WITH YOUR OUTLOOK ON LIFE AND THE PEOPLE IN IT. YOU GO IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND AND WHEN YOU COME OUT...WHO KNOWS WHAT YOU WILL SAY NEXT. YOU SEEM TO BE DOWN TO EARTH AND BY YOUR MUSIC IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE REALLY LIVED. IT IS NICE TO LISTEN TO SOMEONE THAT I FEEL LIKE I CAN RELATE TO. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY OTHER THAN YOU ARE JUST UNDESCRIBABLLY INTERESTING TO ME. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND FOR YOUR MUSIC. JUST ANOTHER FAN

John Marshall

Hi my name is Harley. I really like you music and was wondering if you would come to Bristol , VA sometime soon? My mom's boyfriend is a very big fan of yours and he introduced me to your music. I've heard that you've been here before and really liked it, so how's about coming back?

Doug Hamblin - Los Angeles, CA
Hello John, (or whoever is monitoring your mail.)..I wanted to say hello I have been a fan since 74,, we met back in the 90s, I did some work with Howie on Lost Dogs, sang some backup and played some grooves with Joe Romersa...also I play locally w Mr Squeeze. I took my wife to the Wilshire show, she has heard but never seen you perform, and she was just knocked out and has been raiding my JP CD collection ever since. The whole show was just excellent and your players super. http://www.myspace.com/doughamblin

Griffin Veatch - Lake Jackson, TX
One Question... HOUSTON freaking TEXXXAS...when??? when?? when??? it's been forever since JP graced a Houston stage... WE AIN'T GETTIN' ANY YOUNGER!! Griff - http://www.myspace.com/veatchrock

Mick Kilgos - Menlo Park, CA
John, Hope that this finds you well. Phil Tenney introduced me to you on the After Deck at Louies BackYard several years ago....I've since moved to San Francisco, where I'm still drumming with alot of the local artists in the Bay Area. All the best to you. http://www.mick-kilgos.com

Tina - Indiana
I was raised by a single mother and times were often hard. My mom learned creative ways to make up for lost Christmas and birthdays. Moving from house to house with barely any belongings we found comfort in our John Prine album. When I would ask to go skating or shopping my Mother never told me we were poor.... instead she would say "were gonna have a party", and she would break out the album. Sometimes we danced around for what felt like hours.... I grew to LOVE John Prine. Now, at 35, and a mother myself, my kids know and enjoy Prine. The music took me away, and saved me....A million thank you's. I write poetry myself and have learned to appreciate the lyrics more all the time. Love always, Tina

Jeff Maddox - USA
Don't let me open for you - please! Hey John! Great fan - thought I'd try reverse psychology! http://www.myspace.com/jeffmaddoxdol

George Leslie
Not much to say but thanks that your music was there in the course of my life. Today seemed right to say those words, with meaning. Maybe some other time I'll fill in the details for an interesting short story. But for now I just want to say, God bless you, and keep safe, Your friend, George Leslie

Connie C - California
i have to disagree, I LOVE the electric portion of the show!! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!! It wakes me up and shows me that John Prine can DO IT ALL!! I love the acoustic and the solo and the electric and if he brought out dancing girls doing the hula while he sang Let's talk dirty.... well, I'd love that tooooo!!! Love you John, don't change a thing!! Keep on singin writing playing writing electrifying acoustifying and whatever you want to do.... man YOU ROCK!!!!

Carol - Burke, Va
Dear John Prine, My brother, John Dowdy, has been not just a fan of your music for almost 40 years, but an avid admirer of your ability and insight to transpose real feelings and situations into songs. Songs that touch anyone, at any age with emotions they can relate to. He plays the guitar and sings a little. Not professionally, but in local events and open-mike venues. He always sings some of your songs when he performs and probably has most of the songs you have written in his personal song book. Like everyone, John has had problems and tragedies in his life. Through it all, music, especially your music, has been his anchor. Right now, the pride of his life is his son, Hays, who has been given a natural musical talent. At 16, Hays is in 2 bands, composes music, and is an amazing lead guitarist! We feel so lucky that music has become his life. A group of us will be attending your concert on June 5 at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Va. My wish is that John and Hays could meet you, either on stage or backstage or whatever is possible. It would mean the world to him and would be a great opportunity for Hays. We are trying to get his talent recognized. Thank you for whatever consideration you can give to my request.

Mike, Redondo Beach
I saw John last week, I have been an avid listener since probably late 70s. Just wanted to share that the electric guitar portion of the concert just does not work - really makes an otherwise terrific show kind of lose its focus.

Bonnie
Mr. Prine .. (John) as we call you...as you are a familiar name in our home. I admit to being a late inductee (by standards) and first introduced to your songs by my husband but II think I have far surpassed that no-good son-of-a-B----H for an enduring appreciation of your works. I live in central British Columbia and have driven twice to Vancouver to see you in concert. Thank you for fulfilling your promise to return ... I hope you realize what a terrific following you have here in our province.. What a great time I had...a road trip with a Prine-lovin pal who was learning to play guitar all the "painful" way.... and we even got to shake your hand at the Orpheum as my daughter worked at A&B Sound and we had backstage passes. What an honour. It's hard to express our feelings because I know everyone says the same thing... but boy, oh boy, if you knew how many parties, celebrations, hot tubs and reunions that you were party to, well .... you'd just be tuckered out thinking about it. I LOVE Kristofferson and appreciate his insight. I worked at a senior's residence and I so keenly feel your lyrics " hello in there .. hello". You are an insightful, intuitive man.....and you truly deserve all the credit in the world. But what an anomaly ... as a restaurant worker I would write your lyrics as the "Thought of the Day"... a lot of people didn't "Get It??", some would even say "who's John Prine?". But THEN .... people, (OUR PEOPLE) would walk in and scream ..."PRINE, YOU KNOW PRINE??" Well John, I hope to shake your hand again ... all the best to you and your family.... (Oh, I found a rare treasure ... a yard sale .. rare, because NOBODY parts with their Prine tapes) .... but your Christmas cassette....and I am still playing it in April 09... I am also a published writer and if one day you receive some lines from an "old friend" from British Columbia" I hope you take the time to listen. Bonnie/Writer/Cook

Philip Crawford Eaton- Denver, Colorado
Mr. Prine- I know that what I am about to throw out there, is highly unlikely to happen, but here it goes. I am a life long fan, that is to say, my earliest memory is of sitting on my fathers knee, behind his guitar, as he played Fish and a Whistle with my uncle. Your songs break my heart and lift my spirit in equal measure. I went to your show at Red rocks last year with my mother and brother, and it kicked my ass. You and Emmylou on stage, I was nothing more than tears and memories. It was beautiful, and very hard, but amazing. Anywho, back to the now. I ran into a lovely young lady, who just so happens to be a huge fan of yours,. Both of our fathers are long since dead. The guys who turned us on to you went fleeting from this earth years ago. My angle in this ramble is that we will be attending your June show at Red Rocks regardless, but if there is any small chance we could meet you for nothing more than a handshake, we would be indebted for the rest of our lives. I realize posting this on a public site just opens the flood gates as far as people who would love to actually meet you ,begging for a minute of your company, but John, case as it is, I don't have a more personal option. So, that's that sir. We will be there either way. You are an amazing man, and you have made a huge contribution to my life. thank you so much for your songs. They will always be held close to my heart. What you have done connects me to my father more than almost anything else. Thank you. Philip Crawford Eaton drawsandscribbles@gmail.com Phone 469-831-1471 long shot? Why yes it is.

Amy Leach, Amarillo, TX
My "hippie sister" turned me on to you back in the early 70's and I've been a huge fan since. But what I really wanted to tell you about is that the VERY first time I got onto the internet I looked you up first and wound up seeing you in concert (also the 1st time ever)...It's been my favorite memory ever since! Thank you, John, for all the wonderful songs!

David
My friend Dave has raved about you for years. I am really understanding what he was talking about now. You are a living legend. Thanks for the music brother!!! +DAVID+

"It's a 'Happy Enchilada' and you think you're gonna drown; That's the way that the World Goes 'Round" LOVE YOU JOHN PRINE! Saw you last in New Orleans at Jazz Fest. Hope to win tickets to see you again on my California Vacation! If not, then, "Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone; I'm just tryin' to have me some fun!" [Is your sister still a Nun?] And I just worship "Jesus, The Missing Years". I believe that he was "Sabu the Elephant Boy; bundled all up in his corduroys" if you ask me...XOXOXTERESAXOXOX

Adam Fink - Sibley, LA
I've been listening to you for soo long. Well, not as long as you've been listening to you, but almost. My brother used to play the guitar with his friends, and sing your music when I was like 10. I'm 42 now, and I play it to my kids. I do listen to the lyrics...happy enchilada and all. Thanks

Kirk Martinak- Houston
Been preachin the Prine Gospel since late 1970's. Just wanted to give you my heartfelt thanks for you and your lyrics. Your songs have helped me out in some hard times. Just don't let them bury you down in that cold, cold ground!

Shirley Spencer Montreal
John, I first saw you on Austin City Limits and was immediately hooked. Was fortunate to catch your show when you performed in Montreal and have been singing many of your songs ever since. My boyfriend and I spend alot of time singing and playing guitars. One of our favorites ito do is "Glory of True Love". However, my songwriter sweetheart said that whenever I sang it he heard one subtle change. Instead of "where the governor calls me Gov" he heard me singing "where the governor calls me LOVE". Hope you are okay with it John! I don't know how many times I've thought "please forgive me for being so very bold" when that line was coming up and I've always wondered what you'd think if you heard our interpretation. The one word just adds a different spin when being sung by a woman. I guess I've hoped it would bring a smile. Love your lyrics, your melodies and admire your authenticity. We're huge fans. Hope you come back to Montreal or Ottawa. Best to you and yours.

Cathi Austell, Georgia
I'd never heard of John Prine until 7 or 8 years ago. It's taken me this long to share how I came to be a fan. Well John, it was like this, I was in a crappy marriage and too chicken to walk out. I found a lover on the internet. We'd slip away together for a weekend here and there. Those weekends brought me to life. On one of our escapes we went to Knoxville and on the way home my lover sang "Please don't bury me" to me in the car. OK so not exactly what one would expect to hear from a man who'd been making love to you for the last 2 days but it was the first time a man had ever sang me a song and so it really didn't matter. I am embarrassed to say it now but I ask him if he wrote it and well he kind of looked at me like I was from MARS. He then put on one of your CD's and told me about you. The more I listened the more I feel in love, with your music and the man who opened your world to me. When Long Monday came out on your CD he called and said "Princess, John wrote us a song" Now of course I know you didn't write it for Cathi & Doug but you sure did capture us. I had the opportunity to see you when you were here in Atlanta last year. Doug couldn't be with me, in fact I came alone. I'm divorced now, don't have a mean old man but don't have Doug either. I do have my memories of my Long Mondays. I hope to see you in June at Chastain, if I'm able. I have MS and I'm using a power wheelchair so not sure if I can navigate Chastain or not but I'm sure going to try. NEVER know maybe you'll see a Big Old Guy sitting with a Big Old Goofy Girl, if you do it'll be me and Doug. Love you....

Got to see Prine in the mid 70's with Delbert McClinton. Both have been two of favorites since and whenever they are anywhere nearby. I'm there. Tonight, it's off to see JP in Norfolk at the Harrison Opera House. Hey John, look for me. I'll be out there singing back up for you.

Robert Hill, Lansing, Michigan
Dear John, Your songs "Pretty Good," "There's a Hole in Daddy's Arm," and "Donald and Lydia" inspired me to write an anti-war poem about the Iraq War and particularly about Donald Rumsfeld. I have self published my little book and will be happy to send you a copy if you are at all interested. All the best, Robert

In 1979 or 1980, I was set to enjoy a Prine concert at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham, Al. We arrived and a guy named John Byrne (I believe) did his opening act, then came back out and did a bit more. Then, he came back out again and announced to the couple of thousand people, "John is stuck in Atlanta with airplane problems........for those of you that wish to hang around, he will try to get here." Well, people streamed out, leaving only 2 or 300 of us. I guess a couple of hours later John showed up and what certainly must have been one of his best shows followed. How easy it would have been for him to cancel. What a great guy.

I wonder if you were my mailman? I was wondering if you delivered the mail in Broadview? Our Garbage-man was my guitar teacher. I think it would be cool if you were our mailman. Thanks for all the great music

Nancy - Hampton TN
My daughter and I attended your concert in Charlotte at Ovens Auditorium on Friday March 27th and it was great. She agreed to go with me but was a little skeptical about enjoying herself. She could barely remember hearing some of your music her father played when she was very young. She grew even more skeptical as the audience started arriving. These are all old people-I knew what she was thinking! Sarah Walker caught her attention and you wowed her with your first song. She enjoyed the show immensely and is now a fan. She has added you to her My Space and that is a big compliment. Thank you for the music through the years and for still inspiring a new generation of fans.

Bill
My son and I will be attending our first John Prine concert together on April 4th in Durham, NC. I have been a fan since the 70's, my son more recently as he is a young lad of 18. We can't wait for the show. If you take requests I would enjoy hearing you play Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow) at the show. Just a wish for a long time fan. See you Saturday. Bill

Just writing to say I got my tickets for Red Rocks, CO June 14th. The suspense is killing me. I have been a huge fan since the first time I heard your music. Can't wait to see the best song writer that ever lived this summer. OH YEAH!! PS for those of you that bought tickets for the concert just to double your money on Ebay so I couldn't get 4th row seats from ticketmaster for the regular price.....Your loss

I have been a fan since 1975. I am going to see you again tomorrow night in Charlotte, NC. I would like to sing with you. Have had 20+ years experience in several Rock Bands - Have learned all lyrics to all your songs. Have one in Mind - Blow up your TV Through away your Paper, move to the Country, Build you a home - etc. Know all the harmonies to this one. I was in bands in Central PA - Band Names: Pictures, The Wait. Ramsey Brothers Band. I am 49 year old female who absolutely cherishes your work. Anyway let me know if this is acceptable.

Connie - Cass Lake, MN
Hi John; This is another attempt to invite you to do a show at our venue. we have an awesome facility, used to be a bar/dance hall with a fantastic stage. we still have the stage, but now it is fully lighted and curtained! we have a billiard hall w/coffee shop. we can seat about 500+. we hosted David Allen Coe on Father's Day, 2008. it was awesome! You have lots and lots of fans in these parts, and to my knowledge, you were about 4 hours away last April. Please come further North. i left a map site with my email. It would be fantastic to get working on you paying us a visit! and the Palace Casino & Hotel is just a couple blocks away! I will not give up!

i have been a fan since 1981 when i went to austin college in sherman, texas. for the last 23 years i have been a minister. prine lyrics, "prime prine", have had alot to do with how i understand and bear senseless grief and pain in hospital rooms, with families in funerals and keeping perspective while working with youth groups. john prine lyrics, john prine tunes, john prine's continued existence serve to prove, at least to me, that there is always a loving God involved with all of us. i give thanks for john prine every day. because my grandpa came from Muhlenberg county, kentucky to texas in 1904.

sad - I hate that you got stuck in st. louis n didn't get to come to springfield. We drove from oxford, ms and had just arrived in springfield after driving and sliding thru the snow when we received a call from the box office, telling us the show had been canceled. I was heartbroken. I hope I get to see you in concert soon.

Feeling blue on my current loss...My step father listened to this music more than I can count. He cranked it loud if he was busy working on our old house. When I hear this music I think of him. He left this earth on Feb. 12th 2009 between 5:30am & 6 am. He left in a painful way. He left too early for myself and my family. He left my mom a widow @ 38, his youngest son @ 11. He had four children of his own 11-28 3 of which are married & have kids of their own. He left 3 other children 2 adults and one teen also empty. He loved John Prine music with a passion. A bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down and won. Famous lines which he knew by heart. And because of him I'm a true fan. So thanks for what your doing and how your doing it and keep on going strong because I'll always buy into it.

Hey John, Hope you are well... We are a couple Canadians here with a pub deal and artist deal in Nashville. You are why we write music. We were wondering if you ever have time to listen to a couple songs on here to see if you would consider writing with us. Thanks so much for your time. http://www.myspace com/stellamusic

Hi John, My sister Deb Ciappa brought your music to our home back in 1973, Hello in there came soon after and Dear abby cracked me up because even a young 15 year old read dear abby! That was me Mike Deb's brother. Anyhow I ended up in the service and spread the Prine songwriting Gospel to every and anybody who would listen to me about good music. I also likes Roy Buchannon, not many people heard of him. Well Deb & I are going to The Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre on May 9th only Deb doesn't know yet. I ain't tellin her, I am finally going to reward her for turning me on to your albums. I got your john Prine anthology and have been happy ever since with the collection. If you remember this letter say hi to deb for me on the 9th of May and Oh Boy that will make her day. Thanks, Mike! P.S. All my 8 children can sing your songs, even when they were little and screamed it, that warmed my heart.

Jim Beshwate
I call them the 3 Musketeers. John Prine, Steve Goodman, and Loudon Wainwright III. I was fortunate enough to see all 3. I saw Steve Goodman in the mid seventies in Fresno California opening for Steve Martin. I saw John Prine twice both at the Fox Theater in Hanford California. I will see him again in Bakersfied this year. I saw Loudon in Grass Valley California last year. All these shows were fantastic and along with seeing Bob Dylan and Tom Waits several times each I think I've seen the 5 best singer songwriters of my lifetime. I love you all. And to John: I was a postal clerk for 25 years, am now retired. Thank God you got out of the Postal Service and into the music business. Your songs are for us all. Thanks for all of them. Sincerely, Jim Beshwate (jbeshwate@yahoo.com)

Walt and I just went to see you in Waukegan IL. I cant even begin to tell you how much it meant to me (and him). It was my first time, and his second. He saw you about 25 or so years ago at the Old Town School of Music in Chicago. Is that right?? We had been looking forward to seeing you for years, and all I can say is . . . thank you . . . thank you . . . thank you !!

Deena - New York (was Jacksonville, FL)
Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings has been my personal diary over the years. "Quit Hollerin at Me" was a very special song between myself and an old flame 15 years ago. After an argument he wrapped a ribbon around a fencepost and gave it to me and even took my picture. We made up immediately. My CD was gettting scratched and I had a hard time finding a new one. Thanks to the invention of the MP3 player I am now able to keep it forever. I reconnected with the old flame and we still reminisce about going to that concert 15 years ago. Thank you for keeping my sanity over the years.

I just have to tell you.... When i started dating my current husband Rod in the 90's I had never heard of John Prine. However after many a romantic evening, dancing in the driveway of our barn with our 40 dairy cows looking on, I knew every song on the album "The Missing Years" When we were married in 1993 the first song we danced to as a married couple was "It's a Big Old Goofy World" Love that song! Now a mere sixteen years later, we are coming to see you in Waukeegen IL. for Rods birthday on Sat. March 7th. Along with my sister in law, "Crazy" Aunt Sue and her husband Kenny. We are all SO very excited. We Love you John Your Biggest WI Fans!!

I grew up with you in my life! I missed you once in Tennessee and it is one of my biggest regrets! I would LOVE for you to play somewhere in New England!. I can't make it to NYC on the 15th of May, and I am crushed! I will be patient. THANK YOU!!!!

Steve & Jackie, Springfield, Missouri
We saw you last year @ Chicago Theater, & I saw you in KC in August of '80, but your concert here last night (sold out or nearly so) at the refurbished Gillioz Theater was cancelled due to weather. I suspect the dirty rotten scoundrels in St. Louis detained you for their own selfish purposes, Please reschedule here as soon as possible.

CJ Sartin--Springfield Missouri
John, Just got home from work and had a message on my phone saying your concert was cancelled. My daughter and I was so disappointed we had looked forward to the concert for months. I hope you can reschedule.

Hi John, john found out your concert tonight here in Springfield MO was cancelled due to bad weather. Please reschedule soon!

Hey John, Just wanted to say YOU ARE THE MAN!!! I got to see you in Atlanta last year. I took a first date to that concert, she never went out with me again!!! I think it was more the fact that i screamed like a little school girl every time you sang one of your classics....I couldn't help it!! You are truely a master of your trade. Your songs speak right to your fans, even if some don't understand the lyrics!!! I have been a huge fan of yours since i heard "Pretty Good" some 20 years ago. It is seriously a dream of mine to shake your hand. Maybe some day.....On another note, i'm a fireman here in the county i grew up in, i am currently attending paramedic school. My instructor's name is Sam Stone, he's not an overdosing Vietnam vet, but he is pretty well known for knowing his drugs...God Bless you John, and if your ever in Cumming, Ga, stop by Fire Station #1, and we'll pick one. Josh

Brittney Wenger - Chicago, IL.
Hi, my name is Brittney Wenger. I currently attend James G. Blaine Elementary, which is located in Chicago, IL and I am an 8th grade student. My school is having a History Fair, and my group picked Dear Abby as our topic. We were just surfing the Internet to find some more information on her and I saw that you had wrote a song about her. I just want to start off saying it was such a great song, I loved it! Also I would like to know why you wrote that song about her. Lastly, my group decided that we would do Historical Voices, which is performing a play based on our topic. At the end of our performance we are going to sing your song, it would be wonderful if you could sing it with us :] Is that possible? Thank you very much :] Sincerely, Brittney Wenger

My wife, who is an avid reader and listens to books on tape and CD daily on her commute to and from work, stopped at the local library in Lisbon, Ohio the other day and got a book on CD. When she got to the car, she found a CD labeled "Prine Live" stuck in with the book cds. Having never heard of you (to her deepest regret now!) she listened to the CD. She LOVED it! She brought it home and we started dancing as soon as the music started! That's something we haven't done for years. Please add us to your list of fans! Thanks!

CJ Sartin--Springfield Missouri
John I am so excited about you coming to Springfield Missouri. I have been listening to your music about 25 years, when my daughter was born she was raised on your music, she is 19 now and her boyfriend and her drove to Memphis last year and was caught in the middle of a snow storm, they made it to the concert but it was almost over, she said the concert was still worth it. When I found out you was coming to Springfield I bought her and her b/f and I tickets for the concert, it is our first concert together and I am so excited that it gets to be your concert. Can't wait until the 28th...CJ

Dear John; Are you working on a new album? When are you coming back to London Ontario? I can only go about two weeks without hearing your music. How is your health? I'm about your age, realize looking after oneself is important. This message is pretty disjointed. You are the writer, not me. Take care.

Ricky Alexander - Evansville, IN
Hello, John. I just wanted to drop you a letter to let you know how much your music means to me and my family. I remember when I was very young, perhaps 5 or 6, going to family functions on holidays. These were always positive experiences as my family is relatively large and very close to one another. My uncle, Dean, and my mother, Janell, would sit down and play folk songs and the entire family would sing along. Among these songs were a couple of Bob Dylan songs, some old country songs (Hank Snow, Hank Williams Sr, Johnny Cash, etc) and some were just plain hippie songs, but the most prevailant artist among them was you. The song that sticks out the most is Paradise. My family is from Muhlenburg County, and, in fact, one of my uncles lives on the Green River. My family has on more than one occasion had to stand up against Peabody to protect the beautiful farming country of Kentucky. My great-grandmothers house (now burned to the ground) stood on a modest farm with several acres of woodland surrounding it. When my great-grandfather died and she was left living alone in this tiny house in the middle of the country with no neighbors left because they had all sold their land to Peabody, she called a family meeting to discuss the prospect of just selling the land. It was nothing short of a burden for her to take care of these fields, and she couldn't find anyone to lease the land. My family just told her that she couldn't sell the land. That it had been in the family for so long, that we could not let go of that history. So she stayed and the family would drive 20 miles each way to maintain the fields for her. Paradise kinds of summates the anger and resentment we all felt (of course, I hadn't been born yet) towards Peabody and the whole system in general. I don't know if that song affected anyone or anything, but it sure did matter to us. Someone needed to say that, and your voice was loud enough and strong enough to be heard. Thank you very much. I mentioned that I was young when I started listening to your music. In fact, you are probably the only artist I really listened to independently then that I still listen to now. I knew all the words to illegal smile, dear abby, please don't bury me, grandpa was a carpenter, and sam stone before I was 8 years old. In fact, I sang "Grandpa was a Carpenter" for my fourth grade talent show with my mamma backing me up on the gui-tar. Since I started playing guitar in 8th grade I have managed to learn (with the help of this site) most of the songs I've ever heard by you. There are still a couple of albums missing from my bag of songs, but I have to tell you that people absolutely love your music. I spread your magical rhymes all around this country, everywhere I go, and everyone, regardless of background, digs your stuff. When I've had a couple of shots and find myself alone, I almost always play through Fair and Square. Your music has enhanced my relationships, too. I haven't met a girl who doesn't absolutley love In Spite of Ourselves. You've inspired me to write music, too. Thank you so much for being such a big part of our lives. We all love you. I hope to one day see you live, if I can ever manage it! Be good out there, sir. You gotta lotta love and music and sadness in your soul, and I admire all. Ricky Alexander, Evansville, IN

John, You litle devil, you got away wihout signing my guitar, but I ran into your sound man and I think he passed a care package onto you with some homemade grape jelly from my wife's family farm, a drink coaster and a silver enchilada. It would be great if John would play The Narrows, Fall River, MA but since discovering John for the first time two years ago, I have never been able to see him in the Boston, Providence area.Zeiterion theatre in New Bedford, MA is another great venue John could play in southern New England. I'ld be willing to put up the band if he came to the providence, boston area.

John Trammell, Clayton, CA
John, I heard a live version of Your Flag Decal in the early seventies on a reel-to-reel tape and you referred to a preacher named Karl something who apparently was for flag decals and promoting the war. Can you give me Karl's full name? Thanks for your time and music. See you at the Warfield in two months. John Trammell
~John Trammel - This is from the notes on Flag Decal.... you can read more in the Lyrics section of the MUSIC page.... "This is an old gospel tune I wrote for the Reverend Carl B. Macintyre. I don’t know if any of you are familiar with Carl. He’s been going around for a long time. He’s a preacher and his main slogan is "Kill for God" – he’s been going around for years doing that, he gets a lot of headlines too. This is a song that Brenda Lee is going to record… it’s for Carl." ~John Prine, London, August 8, 1976

We would really love for you to come back to Austin. I was there in the Paramount Theatre two years ago. I was sick as a dog and had an obstructive view, so I would really like to see your show again under better circumstances. I really love your music. I am a guitar student. I have taken accoustic guitar lessons for several years. I have learned to play Clay Pigeons, Souvenirs, In Spite of Ourselves, and Angel from Montgomery. I love them all. I believe that I probably have every one of your CD's. My instructor is Chuck Pinnell. He is a great guitarist. Love to listen to your music, and am anxiously looking forward to your return to Austin in the near future.

Hello John; I couldn't help but notice new tour dates coming up. Will there be any coming to Florida this trip? You are one of my favorite artists and I've yet to see you live (Unless you count the DVD's and Austin City Limits over the years!). I hope to see you in the very near future. All the best to you and those you hold dear.

Hey John, looking forward to seeing you on the 20th. I love music of all stripes but I always come back to you to wash my ears out. Something I am very proud of is the fact that my two teenage daughters favorite songs are yours. Chelsea's is Angel From Montgomery and Morgan's is Paradise - quite an accomplishment.See you in K-Town.

ROGER HUMPHRIES (UK)
I first heard about John Prine in 1975 when I was working as a solo artiste. When I cut my very first album "Some Of Me Songs & That !!! " (Whiskey 001 & a half) in 1976 I included John's song "Please Don't Bury Me". At that time, very few people in the UK were aware of John's music and sadly eveybody over here was under the impression that "Paradise" had been written by John Denver ......... Oh dear! When I was signed to the UK label "Country Roads" in 1982 I cut an album called "A Blast Of Fresh Air" on which I included John's song, "Spanish Pipedream". Sadly, just as tracks from the album were getting some serious national airplay and the album was selling well, Country Roads Records went bust ....... bugger !!!! I still feature John Prine material when I play live gigs, in particular, "If You Don't Want My Love" & "Hello In There". John has always been, and still is, a tremendous influence and "the real deal"

Chris Johns (UK)
Hi John, Last saw you on your visit to the UK in Oct. 07. Took my caravan to Treorchy overnight. Was a real frosty night & I was damm cold in the morning, but your Gig was worth it. Hope you can tour over here again soon. BTW, if you are near the South by Southwest festival in AUSTIN Texas March 18/21st. then please check out CHRIS TT, a UK Artiste who writes quirky songs like you. He would make a greatsupport act if you come over here. www.christt.com.

Turned on to Johns' songs in 73. Very first song was Dear Abby. I have been hooked ever since. John talks about listening to WWVA in Wheeling. The old music hall has been closed for several years, something about not being up to code, It has just been purchased by a group who will have it open in November. I think John should be the opening show. oh yea!!!

Several years ago, my 12 year old grand daughter and I were on our way to the airport in Tampa, getting ready to fly to Birmingham to see her new baby brother. John Prine's "Far from Me" is playin', and I look over and she has a tear running down her cheek. I asked "what's wrong", thinking she might be worried about the flight, she says nothing's wrong, but I asked her again. She said "it's just like real life ain't it". "Yep, it's just like real life" Thanks, John....................

Gary
I am a retired Mountie from Manitoba. My wife and I lived up north for a number of years and another member (RCMP) introduced us to John Prine music, thankfully. We followed his career for years, never had the chance to see or hear him live but lots of CDs etc. My wife Karen, died last summer and I spend a lot of time listening to our music and John is a favourite. My son, who is now in the RCMP made a CD of the most recent hits by John, which is great. I am sending this to say hello and thanks for all the memories. By the way some of John's music improves my spoon playing. Gary

Mike P - Springfield, PA
My story is like a thousand others. Some one got me hooked then I hooked countless others. I've been to many live shows and have most everything ever recorded. I include JP songs on every party CD mix I make, so do my kids, got them hooked too. Last show I went to JP sang my two favorite songs; One Red Rose & Storm Windows, how happy was I. Isn't it funny how music plays such a huge part in your life, always in the background, always catching your ear. Another heart felt thank you John Prine, your simply the best of the best. You keep playin' and I'll keep listening, forever.

Rita Trentham
My friend Geoff introduced me to your music several years back and I in turn have shared your music with my family and other friends. Now, I will be attending my first John Prine concert at the TENNESSEE THEATRE Feb.20th, 2009 in Knoxville, TN. I will be sitting in the balcony to your right. Please wave at me. Your voice has cheered me up so many times. I thank you for recognizing the everyday person and some of the circumstances we have to deal with on a daily basis. GOD be with you as you travel.

I had not listened enough these last few years and much has gone wrong ...I laugh now ,a little, when my 2 yr old wants me to rock-a-bye her and asks for "Jehosaphat da mongrel cat jumped off the roof today.." or" dear abby dear abby" and of course the "grandpa song" got to replace all my John P cd's ...leave the singin to him thank you .. to keep a little grounded

Dear John, I just noticed that you are headed to the West coast, if you think about it you would have to come through Salt Lake City to head back East. See where I am going here? I don't want to sound needy or whiny but please come to Salt Lake and put on a show or two, or somewhere in the vicinity of. We would all appreciate it. Take care and God bless.

Hello Mr. Prine - My wife and I are really looking forward to your show in Springfield MO in Feb. I've been a fan for embarrassingly many years, I was reciting your Prime Prine songs in High School (graduated in 78). My wife, of coarse has had to put up with jokes about bicycle spokes, etc. as long as we've known one another. Our kids have also learned all of the words to my favorite... For Christmas my son presented us with tickets to see you - can't wait. Thanks for coming to Spfld.

We went to one of John's concerts in Baltimore of *'07 or 08, and he was great but what else would we expect. The other interesting thing was we were able to meet with him after the show, and this isn't said to show off though we do feel privileged; there was an interesting thing like most Prine fans we have been lat the Meyerhoff in Baltimore, 2007istening to John for a long time, (near 30 years), our kids have been listening their entire lives. In fact my daughter after hearing the line "they made love from 10 miles apart" said, "that could be done!" to which my brother and I looked at each other and said, "she's a good girl!", when you listen to some one for so long as we have have been listening to John Prine, having all their albums, you get a feeling that you almost know them. My wife and I met at ages 15 and 16 so we were just kids growing up on Prine ourselves, when we met John it was as if we were old friends, (Her and I with John, not her and I) he was polite, conversational, I don't know of any other way to say it other than he acted as if we were old friends, like we knew each other as long as we had known him. His band was also very polite and acted the same way, it was as if we were all old friends. In fact, we still keep in contact with Jason Wilber, I meant to see him in Annapolis last year, but due to injuries I couldn't make it. The point is to be a Prine fan is more than just being a fan, it is becoming a friend, a friend with him and the band. He has never forgotten from where he came, in fact I don't think he knows how good he is, or of the legend he has become. So friend or fan, I am glad to have become associated with John and his band, and think we should all go out to see him and the band as often as possible, they are very very good, and the show they put on is tops

Hi John, I'm 65 and always had a great love of music. Unfortunately, I didn't discover yours until about two years ago. It's about the only thing I listen to anymore. I regret that I've never seen you on stage. Any chance that you'll be back out Arizona way? Hope you are well.

To my favorite artist Mr. John Prine, My husband and I saw your Fair and Square concert in Duluth Mn. I have to tell you,I was ready to divorce my husband ,we fought and I cried all the way there, but after listening to you it all went away. I have to listen to some Prine everyday to make me feel good,ya know I could never get the hula-hoop thing down when I was a child, I don't go to therapy groups but I did go to a therapist for a while, I even turned her on to your music and she listens all the time and thinks you are fantastic. I also have to tell you I live not far from that live bait station in northern Mn. called the Junction that sadly & stupidly burned down. And the Forrest Lake you sing about if I get it right is a friend of mine since kindergarten. I would also like to tell you about a party we have every year in Nashwauk Mn. It's a private party for someone who is cancer-free , the guys get out their guitars and they play your songs and for the first time in my life I got up with Beezy, one of our entertainers and I sang 2 of your songs with him, Hello In There and Sam Stone, I'm kind of shy to do this in front of a crowd but I did very well and Beezy and I harmonized very well together. Beezy wants you to come visit for his 40th anniversary for his bar,It's a dream of ours but it sure would be nice if it came true. Oh by the way ,Nashwauk is about 8 miles from Bob Dylan's home town of Hibbing.Well I better go it's getting kind of long, just remember you and your music are better than any therapy group there is. Peace and Love, Linda

John, I went to your concert in Roanoke, Va. at the Civic Center several years ago. Really enjoyed the music. I'm going to be out of town for your next visit in a few weeks. Sorry. Can you tell me the closing song you did at the last concert here in Roanoke? It was really great. Be sure to take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway while you are here.- Sam

Dear Mr. Prine- About 19 years ago I was a student in Madison WI. A big fan and when you came to play a friend got me and my best friend back stage passes because he happened to work in the theatre you were playing in. Well, you were kind enough enough to socialize with us and we went for drinks. Since then, I have been busy- not listening to music enough- making a big career. Here I sit, amidst the crunch, jobless, a mom, single, sitting up late and listening to your music once more. Funny how I forgot why I was a fan in the first place. Now in London, but happy to be free.

Hello Mr. Prine, It was an honor to have you in my restaurant last night. I hope you enjoyed your dinner. I didn't want to bother you while you were with your family and friends so I thought I would write you here. Would you be so kind as to send us an autographed photo for me to hang on the wall of the restaurant? People always get a kick out of seeing what famous people have eaten here. I hope to see you back next time you're in town. Stay safe and Happy New Year. Kelli Umstead PJ's Oyster Bar 595 Corey Ave. St. Pete Beach, Fl. 33706
