Friday August 18, 2006 Chastain Park Ampitheater, Atlanta Georgia
With band -Jason Wilber, Pat McLaughlin and Dave Jacques - support: Patti Griffin
By: Allen Peacock
Outside of the flower arrangements, candles and pinic baskets that folks were carrying in, the venue and atmosphere were great. It was a little "stuffy" for two old hippies. JP was awesome as usual. Angel from Montgomery, Grandpa was a Carpenter, Lake Marie, etc. The usual suspects. Patty joined JP for 2 songs, midset, and it was truely a highlight. The Paradise encore rocked. You'd never know John changed the key of most songs, as they and the band sounded fabulous. Can't wait for him to return to this great outdoor venue. Next year I'll be sure to pack a few roses and a shrimp tray.

JOHN PRINE, PATTY GRIFFIN
Prine has been through the gauntlet over the past few years with some serious health issues, but he bounced back with some of the best work of his illustrious career. His humor and cynicism are intact, and his delivery is still as captivating as ever. Griffin is an amazing songwriter and performer, with a unique world view that makes her a fitting musical companion to the legendary Prine. $28-$74. 8 p.m. Chastain Park Amphitheatre. 404-733-5000. www.classicchastain.com. -- JK
