December 30, 1998 Hopefully you all know by now that the John Prine Shrine moved on October 10th (John's 52nd birthday) and has it's own domain name http://www.jpshrine.org ! It's been frustratingly exciting - So stop by and give it a look.- and then let me know if you bump into any problems or have any suggestions. A big fat Prine Shrine thanks goes to Chris Toth aka Mr Natural (a major Prine fan) for the site and the help with all that technical stuff that one needs. See Chris's Prine experience in the "All Net Picture Show" http://www.jpshrine.org/allnetpics.htm in "Mr Natural's Mini Shrine". He has also set up a chat room for those of you who used to visit Oh Boy's old chat room, that is awfully close to "the old days" It's very simple, very manual, and for those of you who are sight impaired and couldn't chat in any of the "new" rooms - I'm curious if this room works out for you. (uh, Judy? I'm singling you out to give the room a check through and let me know how it works) http://www.jpshrine.org/chats.htm Here's juicy stuff that you are all waiting for...... Now mind you...these things were not confirmed by Oh Boy Records (nor did John didn't call and tell me so either...) But....we have heard that John has had a wonderful time at home this past year. Recently he was spotted shopping for goodies just days before Christmas and stopped to talk with a friend (and a friend of the Shrine) John seemed very relaxed and down to earth (as always) and he had mentioned that he enjoyed working on "Daddy and Them" and his part was bigger than he had expected. He looked good and was in great spirits. So please people - do not believe the sick, dead and in jail rumors going around....they are just plain silly!! Cross my heart and stick a needle in my eye eye eye!! Another thrill that has come to surface by several trusted sources that John just may start touring/playing again - as soon as February, or early spring. That's about as close a date as we could get here. So I would keep an eye out at Oh Boy Records http://www.ohboy.com for the "official news" and while you're there - buy a few CD's and update that music collection of yours while you are there) If you haven't been by Oh Boy lately - then you are missing their great music and miscellaneous offerings. Check it out, hear clips of Prine and some of his favorite musicians music. Then you can come back to the Shrine and check out the venues, ticket information, and reviews and pictures as we collect them. As soon as we know - we'll let you know. We'd love to hear from you and see your Prine pictures or stories. Many of you have
written and told personal stories of how either he has touched your life or how his songs
have meant to you. You can view these in the Guestbook, the "I Get Letters"
located in PARTICIPATE section http://www.jpshrine.org/parti.html
and don't go launching yourself into cyberspace like some space monkey - fill out some of
the surveys that we have up. If you had filled them out before Dec 1....please do it again
It will help us to make the Shrine better for you - and keep us off the streets! During
these next few cold winter months, spend some time filling out the forms - or concocting
your pictorial for the imagery page, or if any of you have a Prine tattoo....we'd love to
show it off to the rest of the fans. I'm getting the urge to get a tattoo for my 40th
birthday this year - and I'd like to see all the possibilities and maybe a few suggestions
of just where I can have it put...... Hey...and while you are browsing around the Shrine....check out the MUSIC site http://www.jpshrine.org/music.htm we've worked hard on putting all of John's compilations, songs, lyrics, and soon there will hopefully be some more midi's.... and an MP3 or two. Thanks to all those who continue to help!! I'd like to take this time to thank all of you who have submitted information, made constructive criticisms, notified me of errors, sent in pictures, links, tapes and music....without you the Shrine would not be the ultimate Prine site. Please don't hesitate to continue supporting the Shrine, and John, and Oh Boy records. He is truly a piece of Americana that everyone can learn something from. Not only is he a fine musician/lyricist/actor but the man is just a real nice guy that deserves to be noticed! So dear Shriners...before I get all sappy about how thankful I am to you all, and before you all start to nod off- I'll just stop my rambling, and hope to see you soon. You all have a great '99 and I hope to meet some of you at one of John's venues this year.... Just check out everything as there are all the Chords, All the Lyrics, All the Pix, Poetry, Stories, Reviews, and anything else you need to know about John Prine. While John is off...you definitely need to check out all the goodies at Oh Boy records <http://www.ohboy.com/>. They have the best prices on John Prine albums and souvenirs- and it's John's company...so be a loyal fan and put your hard earned money where he puts his. Complete that collection today!! You really should spend some time cruising the entire site....and then stop in at the chat room and say Hello in There!! Our Lost Dogs have been snooping around and came up with this wonderful
information. Please Don't flood Oh Boy Records with questions and requests.
But do feel free to wish John Good Luck for his Grammy nomination. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This was actually secondary to the fact that he truly just wanted to spend time at home with Fiona and the boys. I for one am glad that he is able to do this - and has his priorities straight. Aren't you? Even if it means we have to wait a little longer for a concert tour ... I am betting that this will make it all so much better. At this time the 1998, tour dates are still unknown, lhopefully this will mean the possibility of a new album and new songs we can scrutinize over in the chat room. The Prine family reportedly were on Santa's good list and found a computer under their tree this year. This Christmas present sounds like it is already getting good use and who knows...maybe we have been visited or lurked by Fiona, Jody or even John himself!! The "boys in the band" are all keeping busy, however, with David

Shrine I just wanted to wish you all the merriest and most wonderful Holiday ever. Thank you so much for all your contributions to the John Prine Prine Shrine! Always feel free to drop me a line or leave a message for or about John Prine and I will share it with the rest or see that it gets delivered to John. He is in awe of all the messages and we can only hope that Santa will bring him a computer and modem for Christmas...(he has been a very very good boy I've heard) Sources say that he is enjoying the holidays in Nashville, resting up and taking advantage of the relative peace and quiet. We're all anxiously awaiting his return to the concert tour scene, but can't wish him away from his family. Hey! That's where some of his greatest songs derive from.... In the meantime you can complete your Prine collection at Oh Boy Records <http://www.ohboy.com/> They have added a listening room and are filling it with some ear candy from every album. My recommendation is to get all the albums - I'm not trying to push a shameless plug here ... I have all the albums and it is amazing at how the feelings have changed in some of the repeated tunes. I just got John Prine Live and am kicking myself for going so long without it. I figured that I heard the songs before and didn't need them on a second album...... Boy OHBOY was I wrong! You should really find out for yourself. Please stop by the Shrine and fill out the "Create John's next Album" form. I'm looking for songs that you have heard him sing over the years with that he has not published on any of his albums. Also I'm looking for songs you have heard him sing with other performers that you could listen to a couple of hundred times more. Plus, you can name or vote for what you would call this album. Then you can list your favorite songs that you would like to see him do in concert... It may prove helpful someday and is getting pretty interesting with what we have so far. *Subject: Info on the tour cancellation Dear Prine People, Just to answer the multitude of mails and calm your fears . . . John Prine is not sick or dead, neither is Ben or Al Bunetta. In fact all is well in Paradise and John is taking a well deserved and much needed rest. You know that he has beautiful wife and young boys at home . . . and it is Christmas time.... Seems like that's where he should be. Don't you think? I am sorry for those of you who were so excited to see him in concert over the next few months, but there is hope that he will resume and reschedule when time permits. of other really awesome entertainers and cool stuff! * Hello in there! There are literally gobs of Prine fans who would like to hook up with other fans and chat awhile about...you know who. So we're adding some new times to chat in hopes that it is better for those of you who have been unable to come on Monday and Saturday nights. So gang...here goes...hope we can get some groups to try to gather on these times.... FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS, AND MONDAYS: SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS Anybody in any other time zone that I missed please let me know...I know there are some Irish fans out there that we will be more than happy to try to set up a time for...just let me know. Still, we have no new news on John's touring plans but you can keep updated by visiting his Oh Boy Records site at <http://www.ohboy.com/>, their secret on-line ordering system is great and it beats running to to the store in the cold to pick up anything missing in your collection! In the meantime you can visit my Prine Shrine at <../prine.htm> and read up on the great info saved from some of the previous chats or cruise all the JP sites I've collected and just fish and whistle...and enjoy. Sign the message board, (Lpage deleted all the entries this week and doesn't look like he has any fans)... we'd all love to hear anything that you would like to share about JP, so spend a minute and share yourself with other fans and John himself. Some AOL users have downloaded Netscape for their browser and have had no trouble...but it seems a pretty sure thing that if you are using AOL for your netsurfing....you are only getting to ride the little waves...and we aren't getting to meet you. Are any of you others having these troubles? Let me know and maybe we can start something else for you all via a bulletin board of some sorts via e-mail. Also, Tuesday nights, and Friday Nights, and Saturday and Sunday anytime seem to be popular times to drop in the chat page....but Mondays will always be standard and almost guaranteed that there will fans there to chat with.
