3 shows in row for Johnny's Tour

Oshkosh, WI

The opening concert for John Prine was at the Grand in Oshkosh WI.... a beautiful venue with about 660 seats. We were a one block walk from the Grand in a hotel where the indigents stay when they get out of jail (so we were

told by natives of Oshkosh) I believe it - we met some interesting characters there while we waited for the show.
Our little group consisted of Crusher, myself, the webmister, Rich and Julie Barnett,A view of the seats from the Stage at Oshkosh we were doing all 3 WI shows and celebrating Crusher's birthday together.
John came out looking happy to be there and without the bolo tie starting off with Spanish Pipedream and maybe a little nervous - although it is kind of hard to tell - he was grinning so much. The show was wonderful, in such a small venue it was like having him in your living room. He treated it like a living room, talking back to the crowd, enjoying himself, it was a good crowd. We love Todd Snider, those two compliment each other with their shows.

He paused and he posed for a Polaroid photo

John Prine looking at an old piece of advertising on his first albumWe stood and waited after John cleaned up and ate to get a chance to say hello. Made friends with the Security  guard who got in my face, his name was John too, and politely forced me to delete my GREAT photos of the show.  By now my face is a little familiar and when it was time to see John, I was called by name and the other John said "Well if you had told me you were a friend of John Prine's I would have let you off"... riiiiiight, they always believe that- every person that gets busted at Prine concert uses that line...uh huh.

We wandered around the dressing rooms, I peeked in and said hello to Todd Snider, David Jacques, Jason Wilber and I'm afraid to mention Todd's tech person for fear she'll kick my ass, but I met her too. What a bunch of nice men, (Even Todd, although they all said "he ain't right")!

It was nice to see John up close and personal again, he was still wound up, feeling good. He had a stack of photos that he carries with him of his family and enjoyed showing off his family life. What a bunch of good looking kids, their oldest is a heart throb, and he talked with pride about him. You could tell that as much as he loved bring his music to his fans, he's counting the seconds for when he can be back with his family. It was a lot of "over the back fence chatter" - I told him that yet again the security guard made me kill my photos and would he pose, so these photos are what he obliged. He sat patiently for the one that is up there with the setlist, waiting for my batteries to charge.... what a guy.
