Putty for the Hole in a Soul

9/28/01 |
I had been comatose for a week in front of the TV during the 9-11 tragedy,
this old soul was having doubts and in need of repair. Without hesitation,
nor thought I bought 3 tickets online for the Prine show in Nebraska.
If life was going to end as I knew it, it wasn't going to happen without
being reminded to "blow up my TV and throw away my papers".
I called Crusher in Wisconsin and my husband and told them we were taking
a trip this weekend, and that's all I needed to do. We made plans for
the Cornhusker state.
We
arrived in Lincoln and checked in to our hotel since it was right
across the street from the Lied Center and the bar was by the door...
(that's important, you know)
Once settled the boys and I took a walk to the venue to figure out
where to go, and John himself pulled up in his car - looking great,
grinning and wearing a new scar on his elbow. He left the engine running
for a long time, possibly he was thinking he might try to make a run
for it.
We stood in the parking lot, I holding a few of his things (trying
to be helpful) and just idly chattering about his vacation,
the tour, and the little bit of chocolate on his chin.
He was stopped by a man, woman, and a dog (who later I found out were
fellow Iowans) and graciously posed for a photo. All the while I am holding his grocery bag of newspapers
and the door for him. Thrilled to see him
so happy and healthy... it took away the blues of recent weeks for
awhile...
John invited us in and we were shown through the back stage and out to the
seats in front of
the stage.
