The Show
|
It was a hell of a show.
Basically the same set up... They come out and hit us with a rocker,
talks and sings a bit with the boys, does a solo bit, and then winds it
up with some get out of your seats and join us music. I love the last
half of the shows... It starts at Bear Creek and just rocks.
I'm still kicking myself, probably why I haven't written this review,
"If I only had the chance to turn back time" - We were in
seats that literally allowed us to elbow up to the stage, and at one
point John went back to his table, watered his throat, and walked
to the end of the stage. He looked down at me, adjusting his
guitar:
"Reeda,
What do you want to hear?" looking at me as if he's
going to get an answer.
My mind raced to
my feet, tripped on them and rolled under the stage. I can see the whole Lyrics section
of the shrine (written in a foreign language) - What was
that song he never does? What is the name of that song? No, what about
THAT song.. I manage to babble...."uba dubbah wabba boo
blblblbllb...(my cheeks are burning - I am sooooo not cool), this is the moment
that should have come so easy, no Donald and Lydia, Souvenirs, Paradise, Sam Stone
requests from me...oh no... go for something really old, not even
his, or never
published... something I've never heard him sing live on stage before...
I look under the stage for my mind.
I sputter, turn red, frantically wave my arms "uh uh uh uh
play a
new one" (where did that come from? - ugh) He looks a little let
down and walks toward the microphone and sings "Sour
Grapes" talks about it being one of his oldest songs - definitely a
good choice, glad someone could think on their feet... (Did I just
hear a boot fall?)
John, in between dislodging my foot from my mouth and my brain
from under the stage - I've studied for this test ... if you feel like
pop quizzing me now, I'll get a good grade.

New Songs
|
Prine's new songs are instantly new favorites. Quite a few were co written
with Pat McLaughlin and they songs say... "Yup, Prine is still
a dreamer, a Folkin' Rockgrasser in some kind of domestic bliss and
still wondering about life." Hiding in his head from the little
woman on "The Other Side Of Town" - and then wanting her to
come back home when she left to find herself in "That's All
Right By Me". She must've come back... as the "Power and Glory
of Love" shouts it out to the world. He wonders if it's the career
choices made that are really the secret to happiness on "Crazy
As A Loon" and again questions his motives and walks them off in
"I'm Just Getting By". This next album is truly going to be
another deep inward look at oneself, and it will get you to thinking.
It's going to be great, that I'm sure of. |
