I took my latest wife and my daughter to see John in N. Charleston on Saturday night. This was my fourth time to see him, Emily's second time and Susan's (the wife) first. He put on a terrific show. He sang for over two hours and we felt completely entertained. We got more than our money's worth. The new CD is super. I hope he can keep on writing songs and touring for a long time.

My wife went with me and we took 2 of our grandsons. Cory is 10 and Connor is 4. Cory was singing Illegal Smile with a lot of emotion when he was 3. Connor knows the choruses to Grandpa, Paradise, and Pipedream. To anyone seated behind me I want to apologize because the 4 year old did get a little restless and showed his butt so to speak. We got great seats through OHboy, first row almost center. It was another great Prine time. John was in great form and was having a good time. John is showing his age, like us all I guess. My wife had not been to a concert in a while and really noticed this. I just sat back and enjoyed each song. I know he performed for 2 hours and 15 minutes including the encore. It was a special night. As far as the new album, I like most all of the songs. My only small complaint is I could have done without some of the background vocals, particularly on the I'm taking a walk song. It is really special having a new Prine cd though, really special.

..."Things today remind me of what the country was going through with Vietnam,” says John Prine. “It’s a different war and a different time, but you have a president who’s … you know, some people love him and some people can’t stand him. We’ve got a war that’s not particularly favorable. There are a lot of similarities.”
Speaking in his distinctive, gravelly voice from his home in Nashville, Prine actually sounds pretty cheerful and ready for whatever’s next. As one of the most enduring folk veterans and American songwriters of the modern era, the song craftsman is in a category all his own: part country singer, part protester, part love song writer. Curiously, some of his older standards are even more politically pertinent these days".... .......................................read more......... http://www.charlestoncitypaper.com/layout.asp?id=43314&action=detail&catID=8457&parentID=8457
