Quebec and Ontario Canada

Spectrum, Montreal, Quebec, Canada with Tom Russell
August 24, 2001

By: Jim Landry
Wow. What a night. It was shear magic. The show at the spectrum was opened by Tom Russell. He's a great songwriter and a talented musician and a good prelude. Then came Mr. Prine. He came out and played for over 2 hours (closer to 2 and half). A few times when I looked at him he was absolutely glowing. The venue was small (900 maybe). Bar atmosphere. (tables) He was accompanies by Jacques and Wilbur and they were excellent. His voice was by times a bit haggard. I remember thinking after 30 minutes that he won't do more than an hour. then an hour later he was rockin' and I was thinking he may never stop. Here's something to think about. If you are ever considering driving 20 hours (10 each way) to see a Prine show, and you are wondering if that is worthwhile, and you arrive in the afternoon, and you decide to go get your tickets at the box-office and as you cross the street to the venue and your buddy with you says "there's Johnny", and you look across the street and see him walking towards you, and you get 10 minutes to talk to him, you can wonder to yourself "what would have happened if I had stayed at home?. I've Caught some of that glow I saw on John's face, and I want to hang on to it as long as I can. Here's the set list. the 2 songs with ? at the end I cannot think of the title's, so I put in a line from the song. any help would be appreciated. my mind is fried from the long drive.

Thunder Bay Community Auditorium

I never thought I would see the day that John Prine would appear in Thunder Bay. Thank goodness that day has arrived. Thunder Bay crowds are often somewhat reserved, especially when it comes to participation in a show, but as I sat singing along with John, I noticed that most of the audience was doing the same, and we all knew the words. Thanks John for giving us the songs to sing.
Over three hours of entertainment from some incredible musicians and one unbelievable songwriter/singer/entertainer. I can't believe he came to Thunder Bay!
Thank you, thank you, thank you John P.
