Great Great Great concert! John Prine was just in fine form, as we transplanted Irish like to say! Although his voice was a little rough from a cold, he sang and talked for almost two hours, then gave us a rousing couple of songs for an encore. Well worth going to see! Would like to talk to his guitar player as well...he got a great sound from the black tele, and the Fender Twin, wished I could sound like that! dylan higgins

This was my first trip to Ravinia and I was anxious for several reasons. I had never seen John Prine before despite listening to his music for 30 years. My wife and I also had never been to Ravinia and it was a beautiful evening. Finally I was going to get to see my good friend, Gina, and her husband Rex and their son Nick.

This was the most unique show I have ever been to. We laid back on blankets and listened to Prine's songs ranging from "Hello In There" to "Lake Marie". The music lifted our spirits and the stars shone down on a perfectly clear June evening. The lights lit up the leaves on the trees and the weather was unseasonably cool and comfortable. John made it a point to recognize Maywood as his "hometown" and the crowd was appreciative of that.

The other reviews all talked about the setlist and the show...but as much as anything else, I enjoyed just being there with the music and my wife and friends.

The lawns were packed with high-browed yuppies yappin' and sipping overpriced wine, but when John hit the first notes of Spanish Pipedream, he captivated the entire crowd, both inside and outside the pavilion. It was a great set of Prine classics and John and the band obvious pleasure in performing made it all the more enjoyable for us hard-core junkies.

What a great show! What a great venue! We were treated to one of the best shows in recent memory. Mr. Prine still has what it takes to captivate an audience from the first notes of Spanish Pipedream to the last blasting chords of Paradise. John admittedly was suffering from a bad cold during this performance, which did hinder his voice somewhat, especially in the latter half of the show. He told the audience that "He had a cold, so his voice would sound better than normal!" While this was originally disappointing, I could not help but be impressed by John's professional presence on stage. He was obviously struggling with some of the vocals, but reached down deep to give us a high-quality performance despite gradually losing his voice. The passion of his verse still shined through.
Mr. Prine did omit the last verse of Sam Stone at this performance. I am convinced that he did this due to the lack of respect that was shown him by some of the Indianapolis fans during the selection. I was offended by the fact that people were "caterwalling" during Sam Stone. I'm sorry, but a song like Sam Stone, which is obviously very close to most of the fans at a John Prine concert (my age and older), and to JP, does NOT deserve rebel yells at the end of each verse. I am certain that I speak for the vast majority of the Indy fans when I say that I am truly sorry for the lack of respect shown during Sam Stone.
The set was essentially the same as the other sets that I have read recently. We got to hear everything that we wanted. Great show. Thanks John!
