I drove to Vicksburg from Atlanta to see John on Friday night. His voice did sound a little raspy on the second song he played (Six O'Clock News), but I think that was only because he was basically talking the verses instead of singing them. After that, his voice was great (in my opinion). There were some drunk people that got loud at inopportune times, but it wasn't too bad. He broke out Sweet Revenge, which I haven't seen him sing live before. He had some good stories that I hadn't heard before and as always was making me laugh with everything he did.
I wrote down the set list if anyone wants it:
Spanish Pipedream
Six O'Clock News
Souvenirs
Fish and Whistle
Grandpa Was a Carpenter
Far From Me
Picture Show
Flag Decal
I'm Just Gettin' By

Without a doubt,John's performance at the Vicksburg Auditorium ranks at the top of all time performances. John's music has never sounded better and I'm not sure what concert "Tater Salad" saw. Although the auditorium did not have the best sound quality, John's music persevered and as always, he managed to be in "Prime Prine" form. The only drawback to the entire evening were the constant "wolf calls" and yelling by small groups of rednecks that wouldn't know good music if it bit them in the ass!!
Keep on playing, John, and we'll keep coming!

John is a great singer songwriter and puts everything he has into every show.
Unfortunately John's voice last night was not what it was when we saw him last year. I hope it was just a 'bad voice' night. If not, I don't believe it would be fair to his fans and himself to continue his aggressive concert schedule.
We love John and wish him all the best.
