John Prine at the Embassy Theatre, Ft Wayne, IN - Feb 9, 2007
Opening: Maura O'Connell & John Prine --
Band: Jason Wilber and Dave Jacques
By: white bear
The incredible Maura O'Connell opened for John Prine. Anybody who is a fan of traditional Irish music or folk music knows who O'Connell is. She is a big, buxom woman with a unruly red curls, and a voice like Kate Smith. She wowed the crowd for 45 minutes with a standing ovation at the end. Then came John Prine. Eight years out from his successful battle with throat cancer, it was clear that he fully recovered. He played for a full 2 1/2 hours, including a 5 song encore. He did all the old favorites, including Living In The Future, Sam Stone, Grandpa Was A Carpenter, Hello In There, That's The way the World Goes 'round, The Missing Years, The Accident, Illegal Smile, and many others. Plus a number of new songs that will soon be old favorites. O'Connell returned to the stage for a number of songs with Prine, including a terrific version of Angel From Montgomery.
By: Doug, Judy and the ever-hopeful Skippy Wow! What can one say that hasn't already been said? My 29th Prine concert and just as enjoyable and fun as ever! The best part was being there with my wife(her 4th Prine concert). My dog still didn't get in,but all in all.still a great time.People that aren't aware of John's music just don't know what they're missing(yet, isn't it funny, how we true Prine aficianados enjoy and relish that he is our little secret?) Thank you John,Jason and Dave..it was a very nice evening....and,oh by the way..Maura O'Connell was a very pleasant addition...great job on 'Angel'!.If heartaches were commercial s..(well.you know the rest)...til' the next time... P.S. Skippy would like to get into at least one show in his life(although he did get to meet Jason outside the Paramount in Ashland a few years ago...who knows...

... We arrive at the magnificent Embassy Theatre about 7, grab a beer, then head for our seats. A quick word about the Embassy: It was renovated at the cost of $5 mil about ten years ago. It is a truly remarkable venue, rivaling Detroit's Fox Theatre in it's ornate beauty. The theatre organ is one of the finest in the world, and draws people from all over the country to the regular organ concerts held by the theatre. But I digress...
So like I said, we arrive at our seats, and the lady next to us informs us that the opening act is the incredible MAURA O'CONNELL! Hell yes I know who she is! Anybody who is a fan of Irish traditional music or folk music knows O'Connell. She is a big, buxom woman with a shock of unruly red curls, and a voice like Kate Smith. She wowwed the crowd with a 45 minute set, earning a standing ovation at the end. And then came John Prine.

John Prine set the house on fire last night at the Fort
Wayne Embassy. He is the first artist to ever bring tears to my eyes at a live concert. Thanks to John for sharing his wonderful gift.
